  1. if Edwin & Bautista get really hot for a month, and the Jays climb above .500 (and just a couple games back in the weak division), then the talk will switch to the Jays being buyers rather than sellers.
  2. the Jays will stay in the mix, and then we'll see what this team looks like on Sept. 1 (healthwise, and after any acquisitions, plus expanded rosters) when the Jays will play 26 of their final 29 games against their AL East rivals.
  3. I know it's all gonna come down to our starting pitching, but are we ever gonna see this lineup? (put 'em in whatever order): Reyes 6 Donaldson 5 Bautista 9/7 Edwin dh Martin 2 Saunders 7/9 Pillar 8 Smoak 3 Travis 4
  4. I wouldn't be surprised if every team in our division was around the .500 mark by early July. Then, hopefully, Alex can add a legit starter before the trade deadline. AL East is up for grabs.
  5. I like a lot of baseball traditions, but now that the technology exists, i'm in favour of an automated strike zone. can the human eye accurately tell whether a 90+ mph pitch with movement crosses the plate on the corners of the zone? I actually don't mind the ump missing some borderline strike calls if they even out for both teams. But, what I don't like is how (say) Greg Maddux got that strike whereas lesser pitcher's didn't. Or where (say) David Ortiz is treated differently than (say) Ryan Goins at the plate ... (their heights aside.) I'd love to see an analysis of the home plate umpires performances in games at Yankee stadium & Fenway Park over the years to see how their calls shake out for the Bombers & Bosox compared to the visitors ...
  6. and what about the caller who insisted that Bautista shouldn't have pinch hit for Carrera because all the booing negatively affected Jose while Carrera would've hit a double off of Britton "guaranteed."
  7. yeah, i've been very fortunate to have attended all of the Blue Jays big (home) games. my dad took me to the cold snowy opener in '77 as a wee little boy where I caught baseball fever and i've been on the ride ever since ...
  8. my ticket stubs from Blue Jays franchise home opener, all Jays home division clinching games, all Jays home playoff and world series games, all star game in T.O. and various other memorable Jays games in team history ... . . . too bad for digital tickets now.
  9. I sit fairly close to her. We exchange pleasantries occasionally.
  10. It's May 4. Go for the playoffs this year (and next.) Keep the big boppers. But gotta add a legit starter. Doubt that Hutch/Dickey/Buehrle will continue being so bad. The A.L. East is up for grabs. Prime Donaldson ... very valuable Martin ... ROY kind of start to the season by Travis ... with the elite bats of EE & Bautista ... don't wave the white flag.
  11. all it takes is four months of .500 ball plus a couple of monster months ...
  12. Thanks boys. Got it and works great! Now ... anybody have recommendations for the best deal on unlimited internet in Toronto? Cheers
  13. is one able to watch Jays home games on an ipad (only) while in Toronto? Thanks. (I know that there have been a number of MLB.TV threads on here but don't know this answer.)
  14. yeah you're right but I like Steve (and his dad) ... but not enough to keep him around over Goins.
  15. and Tolleson ain't too bad out of the pen as well ... but i'd still take Goins' superb D ... are we ever gonna really need Tolleson's half decent stick against lefties with this lineup?
  16. gates open at 11am, and last year there were long lineups outside the stadium forming well before 11am for all big Sunday giveaway games .... i'm guessing that they all were given out within an hour of the gates opening. (this season, slower entry into the stadium as everybody goes thru metal detectors ... I got pulled aside last night for having a paper clip in my pocket.)
  17. didn't the Jays win a series in NY in July last year? Edit: posted a few seconds late haha
  18. if the Jays can sweep the Yanks in the Bronx out of the gate, then maybe they can run the table?
  19. if a game in NY gets postponed then tack it on the end of the schedule, and then Stroman pitches us into the playoffs with a win in the Bronx on the last day of the regular season.
  20. if NY is leading after 4 1/2 innings, and the ump delays the game with the rain really falling hard, how slow do ya think the Yankees grounds crew will be in getting the tarp down on the field? haha
  21. before your trip, check out the movie Goin' Down The Road (if ya haven't already seen it) haha. a classic.
  22. i'd drink more at game 2 (which probably will have less than half the opening day crowd) ... I wouldn't wanna waste too much game time lining up for the urinals at the home opener ... but that's just me (beer goes thru me.)
  23. I usually do a couple of Jays road trips each year. Wonder whether the low Canadian dollar will affect the number of Jays fans we're used to seeing at away games.
  24. so you want a new manager but aren't you implying that the manager makes no/little difference if the team gets red hot with "whoever the bench coach is" as the interim skipper?
  25. I think it'll be in the high 80s. Saw Eric Lindros this weekend, so i'll go with 88.
