    It's not mortgaging the future b/c it's possible neither pan out? Isn't there the same possibility that they both pan out and then you did mortgage a bright future? Either way, it's asset management man. It will take awhile for everyone to know if they will pan out - in the meantime, they have immense value.

    And did either of them mortgage the future and acquire a bunch of rental players to get there? No, they got hot at the right time, caught some luck and ended up in the WS. If you're going to point that out - you also have to point out the A's who got the rental players and went down in flames.

    I made a post about this before. I bet there's a lot of fans like LTR, who are willing to mortgage the future just for potentially 1 playoff game. Personally, I'd rather stay the course with the objective being sustainable winning....however, that said, perhaps I do underestimate how difficult it is to sustain winning...an interesting debate. If we were already a WC team, I'd give up Sanchez or Hoffman to get better. I'm not willing to move Norris or Hoffman just to become a WC team.

    wat? McCullers has been amazing, McHugh's been good, Velasquez is solid. Their issue might be inning limits on all the young guys. I so wish AA would have gone out and got Josh Fields at the start of the year after the Astros's signed 2 relievers and pushed him down into a mid inning role.

    I agree with this. The cost for the "aces" (Price, Cueto & Hamels) will way too high - especially with no guarantee it makes us a playoff team. I also suspect the price to acquire decent pitchers with club control is high. I'd rather trade some mid level prospects for Kennedy & Latos and see if that can put this team over the top. MB, Latos, Kennedy, Hutch & Estrada is a very solid rotation - which is all we need with this offensive lineup. Move into next year with both Hoffman and Norris (along with the return of Stro) and continue with the long term plan of sustainable winning.

    C'mon. Is there audio on this? That's amazing. I really can't believe there isn't a thread dedicated to stupid things said by members of the media. I never thought anyone was dumber than Jeff Blair, then I heard Barker. I never thought anyone was dumber than Barker until I hear Ken Reid on Bobcat yesterday. I never thought anyone was dumber than Ken Reid until I just read this Barker quote and now it's confirmed. Barker is the dumbest...and with that quote, he's poised to go on a Cal Ripken streak.

    C'mon Atothe - the doomsday predictors will be right one of these days! keep the faith. I think to some fans, one long playoff run and/or a World Series Championship is all worth it, even if it sets the franchise back 5 years. I'm not one of those fans, but you certainly can tell they exist (Ken Reid is one of them - he's a maroon).

    Oh my bad, his 1.5 RoS would be the 3rd best RoS on the Jays....f***.

    I was just making a point that he's had a great season so far (in light of the fact many believe he's overrated - me included). Venable has 0.4 RoS. Is a 1.1 WAR upgrade over 2 months a lot? Obviously everything would depend on what that upgrade costs.

    He's got 3.0 WAR on the season, which would be 2nd best on the Jays.

    Isn't this just a move to help limit his innings? He's already been hurt this year and hasn't been very good as a starter. Accordingly, this moves seems logical. Gibby needs to use Hendriks more.
