  1. It's ironic, considering most considered Smoak's extension to be the most erroneous decision that Shatkins had made to date.
  2. I still believe there was solid rational behind the Hendriks/Chavez deal too. Circumstances changed, Chavez pitched like s*** and the deal ends up as one of the worst Shatkins made (which is really saying a lot!)
  3. Does this really work? Players that come to mind who've filled through roles are a young Napoli, Evan Gattis, Schwarber (pre knee injury), Jaso? I think they wanted Yan Gomes to be that guy. There was talk of d'Arnaud needing to become that guy because he can't handle catching that much. Unless the player is a really good hitter (wRC+ > 115) - I don't see the point. Most catchers hover around the 100 wRC+ range and thus their bats don't really play elsewhere as you wouldn't expect them to be plus defensively anywhere else (except maybe 1st).
  4. Sorry - The stat probably is "backup outfielders" play on average 162 games in a season - not the classified 4th OFer (point being if you have a good 4th OFer who can play all 3 positions, he's going to play a lot over the course of a season).
  5. It's f***ing beautiful isn't it? Gordon and Jason Heyward seem to be mimicking each other. Both put up some massive years built on great defense and base running, coupled with solid hitting. Both were a little underrated at times because they didn't put up the traditional statistics. The hit tool has simply disappeared for both (Gordon's likely due to age/decline, Heywards to mechanics and mental blocks).
  6. I believe on average, the 4th OFer on a ML roster plays 162 games a year. It's an important position. Nobody really likes Zeke because he makes bonehead plays, but at the end of the day, he's an acceptable 4th OFer and by no means should be DFA'd - especially when our current alternatives are s***.
  7. Amidst all his blunders, Zeke's amassed WAR equal to Jose, Tulo and Morales COMBINED this year and this guy wants him cut.
  8. Tellez needs to turn it around Would be nice to see more out of Urena + Cavan Biggio
  9. Tabby - "Gary Sanchez hitting second is a stroke of genius in my mind" So f***ing stupid.
  10. I always thought there was some political hate towards Toronto, as they seemingly control the provincial election - get their party in (Liberals), who in turn focus solely on the GTA, while the rest of the province gets the shaft. I suspect there's a lot of communities nearby who resent that they get invaded on the weekend by Torontonians who treat their town like a 8 year old does a birthday party room at the local movie theatre. I suspect a lot of the population hate french people in general. They push english/french signs on everyone else, yet don't do the bilingual thing themselves. They complain, bitch about damn near everything and get significant political perks simply by being belligerent. They want and have their own set of rules for some unknown godly reason. Bitching about separating. I also think people generally hate listening to them speak. That accent is insufferable and they are typically thought to rude in general.

  16. The 3 strike rule is f***ed. He should have gone to jail for life after Strike 2 in this scenario!
  17. The 3 strike rule is penalizing people based on the history of the criminal... I guess there are lots of different circumstances and "some" perhaps have merit and deserve special consideration - but f***, you get 3 chances. It's not like committing felonies is like a habit you have to kick. I'm also not sure being a drug addict is an excuse. At some point, you have to implement harsher penalties for felonies (regardless of circumstances) if the person continues to repeat. Do you think the PED policy in MLB is too harsh? I mean Jenrry Mejia might be a drug addict, so maybe he shouldn't be banned for life.
  18. Nah - let's leave them in society to commit more crimes and groom future generations. Full disclosure: I'm not educated on this matter at all. I suspect "research" suggests locking them away does have a negative effect on the cycle and I'm sure there are many cases of shoddy, bias police work that is unfairly locking people away for life (not that any system will be perfect). But that's a simple, general concept here. Don't commit felonies - instead, be a decent human being that's a constructive part of society. It's not like it's one and done. You get 3 chances not to be a douche - providing some buffer against the bias police, immaturity + stupidity. I'm sorry, but if you steal from people on 3 separate occasions - f*** you, you're scum.
  19. We should probably give criminals a chance to commit 6 felony offenses before we put them away for good.
  20. This explains a lot.
  21. Regardless of the limitations of face pics - I'm legitimately pissed that Tinder was developed well after I was already married.
  22. Bo's old load kind of reminds me of Kendry Morales - who has a very odd load - yet is a great hitter.
  23. Put me down under the "no" column on that one. Adam Jones on the other hand? He's done as a quality player, which makes me happy.
