Jon Singleton suspended 100 games for his 3rd positive drug test. His career is all but over, but TIL the Astros signed him to a rare pre-debut $10 million extension with Houston back in 2014. That contract will expire after the 2018 campaign. Lucky guy. Stupid on the Astros for not having an out clause for stupidity.
I agree about their lack of depth offensively, but is the pen really that bad? Kimbrel, Carson Smith, Barnes, Joe Kelly, Hembree, Abad.....I mean if Smith is healthy and you add some fillers, that's a good pen
He's probably get a fair amount of time in the OF anyway (say 50-60 games) as all 3 OFers could rotate through the DH spot from time to time to give them a rest. But Boston resigned Moreland and still has Hanley (who's the current DH). Do they have the balls to simply platoon those 2 lickbags at 1st?
I suspect the low ranking is because he's only played 49 games as a pro (drafted last year) and had to DH due to his arm injury. The tools should be there (assuming the arm comes back) for him to be an impact CFer, but there's too many question marks right now to rank him higher.
I'm on board with Hernandez at the right price. He bounced back in a big way last year. He threw a slider (errr maybe a cutter) last year almost 25% of the time after almost exclusively throwing fastball/curveball only for the past 6 years. It certainly gives hope that his strong performance last year is sustainable. Either way, he's someone I've always liked.
Siegrist is a FB pitcher too...
But all those mentioned are great options to bring in.
Krol + Siegrist on minor league deals (ideally) with Oh and Uehara on 1 year, low cost major league deals.
They do. Atkins already said in an interview that their analytics department values him higher than others in the industry (I'm massively paraphrasing). He has massive power and a good swing plane. He's got the talent - we'll see if he can tap into it here in TO.
Me and the fam got to sign the wall today. It was very well done.
Re: drugs - what I read said the drugs and amounts found in his body were consistent with sleeping pills for insomnia. I don't know Jack about flying but it seems reasonable to take sleeping pills to sleep and then go about your life the next day.
Did others read otherwise re: amounts?
Edit - you know what. I don't care. I'm going to choose to remember the good. Doc is a f***ing legend. Don't let some partial information skew that guys. RIP Doc. We love ya
We've talked about Grichuk before - but didn't he have a lingering thumb injury or something last year that hampered his offense? As he proved in 2016, he only needs to post a wRC+ of 100-110 to be a valuable starting OFer. At age 26, we can certainly hope the best is yet to come.
