  1. I mean, sure because they still suck, but Rendon is f***ing amazing. I think it was an amazing signing. I wish the Jays signed him to that contract.
  2. I don't disagree, but Bundy is under control for next year so he's going to cost a lot more than Minor.
  3. I'm with you on this one Grant.
  4. Minor is like Villar. Potential to be a real game changer for a low price. However, the probability of that is probably only in the 25% range.
  5. He's never been a statcast darling though. It's also a SSS. As I said, there might be a 75% probability he isn't anywhere close to the player he was in 2019, but if he doesn't cost much, it's still worth the risk because the massive upside is there. We see players who transform into new players when injected into a playoff race every year. He's also just a good fit. Can play SS with Bo out, can play some OF (if we move Gurriell) and can play some 3rd (I think) if Shaw doesn't turn it around.
  6. I'm not sure we should have to give up a Top 30-50 prospect like Groshans to get Lynn for 2020 + 2021. Manoah yes. I'm OK with that.
  7. I agree. The thing is the price to get him for a 1 month rental is probably really low. There's obviously a chance he doesn't turn it around and continues to play like has in Miami this year (which isn't very good). However - put him on a playoff contender and there's a chance to reverts back (or closer to) the player he was in 2019 when he was a massive difference maker. It's all in where you think those probabilities lie. If you're giving up someone our Top 20 and Top 30 prospects....then even if the probability of him reverting back (or closer to) the player he was in 2019 is only 25% - it's worth the risk. There won't be many players we can add for lower level prospects who have the ability to be 2 to 4 WAR players. Villar has been a 2 to 4 WAR player in 3 of the past 4 seasons. That all said - his sprint speed seems to be down a significant amount this year. Not sure if he's been hurt or just hates Miami. He's hitting that age where the speed probably declines. Likely not someone we want to invest in past this year (unless it's short term and cheap).
  8. Yeah I was just going to say this. I just double checked a few references and they all say 2021 FA. He shouldn't cost much.
  9. This. The guys was a 4.0 WAR player last year. 24 HR, 40 SB. He can play all over the diamond
  10. Have the Padres (and the world) given up on Francisco Mejia now?
  11. That is f***ing massive boys. Grichuk is the man this year.
  12. Buck Martinez says Panik is the best pull hitter on the team. Buck Martinez is f***ing stupid.
  13. same f***ing pitch *******.
  14. why can't we have nice things?
  15. Mets have 4 regulars with OBP's over .400......and neither are Alonso or McNeil, who haven't found their stride yet. Crazy offense.
  16. That gives me a chub man.
  17. You don't have to buy him as a 'new player' this year. Buy him for what he was last year (2.9 WAR). Even at his shittiest, he was worth 1.5 WAR over a full season. The floor is pretty damn high here. I think the point is Seager would be a cheap option in terms of he won't cost us much in the way of prospects. He's expensive, but given the payroll position we're in, who cares. I don't have a crystal ball, but he's been trending up since the start of the 2018 season. I think someone noted injuries hampered him in 2017 and the start of 2018. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/kyle-seager/9785/graphs?statArr=61&legend=1,2&split=base&time=season&ymin=&ymax=&dStatArray= Maikel Franco sucks. A.Cabrera would be another option for this year, but he's an impending FA. We need someone solid at 3rd now and probably until the middle of 2022...
  18. Yeah I was looking at Shaw's statcast numbers today. They weren't overly impressive in 2017 and 2018 when he was great. He's hitting the ball very hard this year, but with s***** results. Perhaps selling out contact for power? Seems odd as that wasn't his recipe for success previously.
  19. Fair enough (we all knew Grant was right anyway). I guess $6.7M per WAR is below average value in today's market. Didn't know that detail about the player option, but I don't think that would totally deter the Jays anyway. If anything, it decreases Seager's trade value. Point stands - we have the worst 3rd base situation in baseball with no clear upgrade in sight for another couple of years. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-2020-replacement-level-killers-third-basemen-and-center-fielders/
  20. He posted 2.9 WAR last year for $19.5M and is at 1.0 WAR this year already. If you compare him with Moustakas, who just got 4 years at $16M AAV then sure, he's probably making a little more than market value, but I'm not sure how you see that as negative value. Given our payroll situation and massive need at 3rd, I'd have no problem taking him on for the remainder of this season + next year at $18.5M with the hopes of getting 2.5 to 3 WAR out of him. I'd rather take on all his contract and give them less in return than have them eat some of the contract and expect a better return. Then with a team option for 2022 at $15M - he provides some flexibility.
  21. I mean sure. I wonder what the cost is considering he can opt out after 2021. I suspect it would be incredibly high, whereas the price for Seager would be substantially lower (article I read suggested the M's would have to eat cost to move him).
  22. That's actually pretty funny. If only this magic worked on Vlad. Anyone see what Juan Soto is doing right now? Insane #'s. Trout may have to pass the reigns to Soto and Tatis here very soon.
  23. This team really needs a 3rd baseman. I was really happy with the move to add Shaw and see if he could regain his 2017-2018 form - especially with another year of control. But it's looking like he won't. We probably need a starting 3rd baseman for the remainder of this season + 2021 at least until Groshans or Martin are ready. I think we should target Kyle Seager. He's under control for 2021 at $18M and then has a 2022 option. He isn't sexy, but he'll plug a pretty glaring hole.
