The deal must get done whether he's in it or not. SD was just trying to stay under the luxury tax this year (Washington was paying Hosmer this year, SD for the remaining years). I'm sure the Owner will just say f*** it, I'll pay the luxury tax.

Yeah - if SD is paying Hosmer, then I'd agree with this. Jays would need to add $35M in value to match.

Tapia has a 124 wRC+ since May 7th (.313/.339/.464). This isn't a 1 month hot streak. The defensive metrics hate Tapia, which is why his WAR is still at 0. The jury is generally still out on defensive metrics, so take it for what it's worth. Point being that Tapia's been a pretty decent 4th OFer.

I would have to assume Tanner Scott would be included (although his control is awful) - maybe Anthony Bass too? Blah... Lopez scares me - not sure he's the guy I want for the #1 prospect in baseball. Interesting to see Braxton Garrett having a lot of success. Former 7th overall pick who didn't exactly tear up the minors and isn't a hard thrower.

Oh I didn't realize that someone hired him. Would I give up Moreno, Ricky and Orelvis for Soto? Yes. Would I do it if we had to absorb Corbin? Only if they ate a lot of that remaining contract. -

He does have a 116 wRC+ since May 1st. 139 wRC+ since May 15th man... -
He's played 12 innings in CF this year. If he's an average defensive CFer than he is significantly more valuable to the Jays than someone who can only really handle LF/RF. It's also quite a stretch to think he's actually viable at 3rd, 2nd, 1st, etc.

You'd have Ian Happ for 2023, but I think this really depends on whether you think he's a viable option defensively in CF (and I'm not sure he is).

I'm all for this. I doubt he carries much trade value right now, so hang onto him and see if you can't unlock something in the offseason. 0.048 ISO is disgusting though.

Agreed. Ketal Marte would also be a great fit, but like Mullins, will be expensive. I also see they've moved him to 2nd base full time this year (although it doesn't look like he's great defensively there).

Sounds like another decent long term option at 2nd or 3rd. With Groshans' pool noodle bat and Orelvis' contact issues, it certainly doesn't hurt to have another potential option to eventually replace Chapman and/or upgrade Espy/Biggio in a few years.

I agree about CF. This team needs a long term replacement in CF and you could certainly argue they also need a short term replacement in CF who we could survive with for an extended period. Catcher on the other hand? We have the most depth in MLB right now behind the dish man.

I missed the game tonight - looks like Kikuchi pitched well - can someone confirm? And of course Chappy continues to rake. Sucks balls to see Springer leave the game with that f***ing elbow.
