I don't equate 1 game winning hit to 'one extra win'. That hit is no more valuable than the hit that scored the first run that game, or the hit/walk that advanced the winning run into scoring position, or the hit with nobody on in the 3rd inning. That hit just happened to occur at the moment that scored the winning run (after a bunch of other valuable things already happened). That said - the gap between a ML career and one that fizzles out in AAA is really small.

Interesting breakdown. Why isn't defense, base running and advanced stats like wRC+ included in this comparison? I mean it's neat to compare him to Lindor and all and adjust the $$$ based on games played and such - but Lindor is a legit stud defensively. -
Unpopular opinion, but this is why I used to be a Wilner supporter. Fielding calls from angry neck breathing causal fans who know next to nothing about baseball is brutal. He could have just gone along with their outdated views - but I think more often than not, he tried to help educate fans by explaining that hitting .240 doesn't mean Varsho is a s***** hitter or that Gausman's 12-10 season doesn't necessarily mean he's underperformed. That said - he often came off as condescending - but most days, the collective IQ of the callers was like -4, so f***'em.

Oh god, this was highlighted by MLB or TSN or something on Facebook last week. Comments just full of people who've seemingly been bottling up their rage to let everyone know "ThAt'S whY WAR iSn'T A ReeeeL sTaT" and "NErdS hAvE RUiNEd BaSEBaLl" I mean this shouldn't be complicated. When evaluating players, you should look at all the information/stats; however, some of the more advanced stats deserve a little more weight and if you need a very quick, high level analysis/comparison - you should use WAR.

for f*** sake - I was going off of G-Snarls post "How it will be enforced: After a third step-off, the pitcher will be charged with a balk, unless at least one offensive player advances a base" I guess that solves the problem. You can attempt another pickoff, but if it doesn't work, the player gets the base. Move along folks - nothing to see here except some incomplete rules being posted

So after the 2nd disengagement....as soon as the pitcher steps back on the rubber.....what prevents the runner from just taking off to the next base? The only thing the pitcher can do is throw a pitch. If they disengage again, it's a balk anyway. I mean surely to god someone thought this through?

I mean after 2 disengagements - you're f***ed aren't you? I guess what you'd do is get on the mound and throw a quick pitch as fast as you could to avoid the runner getting a big lead? The devices in the caps will become important as the pitcher can get the sign without being on the rubber (as once on the rubber, the runner can take a huge lead or just cruise on to the next base). But f*** that's no way to pitch. Pitchers will simply avoid 2 disengagements at all costs. After the 1st disengagement, the runner is going to be doing anything they can to force a 2nd one (which could get kind of crazy if you have runners on 1st and 3rd - both of them f***ing around with massive leads trying to draw a throw or a step off). I honestly think this might just remove pick offs altogether. I mean f*** it, they rarely work anyway. I must say this seems pretty stupid unless I'm missing something - but I'm glad we have a number of good/fast baserunners this year.

Do you think when teams are talking to players about signing a minor league deal with an invite to camp - they make a promise like "we're planning to have 2 open spots on the 40 man roster going into camp"? Teams that promise to have more open spots become more attractive to those fringe minor league invite guys (like the ones Texas just signed on).

Oh wow - I didn't know it was any 2 disengagements. f*** me. I had thought it was just 2 pick off moves max...I mean sometimes you come set and something doesn't feel right. You've got an itch or the grip doesn't feel good or you just have a negative thought about throwing that pitch (sometimes you see catchers call time for the same reason). So after 2 disengagements - will the runner simply take a f***ing massive lead (or could just walk to 2nd base) because the pitcher can't do anything except throw a pitch? I think you could see base runners trying to force throws to 1st base to use up the disengagements to gain advantages.

Man - what a career. We may never see anything else like that in our lifetime. He didn't go out on top, but he also didn't hang on until he was a complete ghost of his former self. I think this is a wise choice, but a sad day for the NFL.

Clearly I'm not following the Countdown to ST thread close enough - I didn't realize we were this close to the start of camp (which I assume is the deadline for putting people on the DL???). Given how close we are yes, but under normal circumstances, no. Thomas Hatch survives another day!

That's my point - why wouldn't every signing happen like this then? This 'game' just doesn't happen. There's the chance he gets cold feet and backs out (bad for the team), or breaks his leg the next day and the team backs out (bad for the player). Jays won't freak out over losing Thomas Hatch or some s***** pitcher off the 40. There will be lots of 40 man casualties very soon and once Green is put on the DL, we'll grab someone who was dropped, but has a glimmer of hope to help us.

I can't imagine that's allowed - if it was, all contracts would come with that agreement as it benefits the team.

Couldn't they also just check everything else out except for his elbow and sign off saying it all passes, except for the elbow obviously?

I saw multiple comments yesterday from Cards fans suggesting their FO is stuck in 2011 and will probably keep Walker in the minors for another 3 years. Thought that was interesting. I guess every franchise has their group of grumpy (likely ignorant and outdated) fans that are never happy - no matter how much success the team has.

Oh yeah - I thought that IG call on Burrow was ********. Perine was in the vicinity - but did that throw make it back to the line of scrimmage? I'm not even 100% sure I know if that matters (if there's a receiver in the vicinity) - maybe that's only if you're throwing it away while outside the tackles?
