  1. Cleveland got 72 PA's from JD. What on earth did you think the FO was going to get for him? You can argue they ought to have traded him before that season started - but once he got hurt, they were f***ed.
  2. I should have clarified.... Baseball was really the first to start this but for some reason the consensus was that baseball was a safe place for female fans and most teams went away from it. The bold part threw me off - are you saying Baseball concluded it was already a safe place for female fans (and women already felt that way), so they stopped trying to market that point? Whereas the NFL didn't believe women felt games were safe for them (even if they were), so their marketing was focused on getting the message out that women are safe and will have fun at the game?
  3. What ball is MLB going to use this year??? Also need to consider the new shift rules are going to increase offense. If we're just comparing runs scored this year v. last year - I think it's going up. Will we be 2nd in MLB in wRC+ and Off? The odds seem unlikely....so how we're going to compare them matters a lot.
  4. Oh - so the first 6 years was guaranteed, but the last 6 years were conditional on passing an annual physical. Got it. That makes more sense.
  5. Captain Obvious - this would be an ideal time for you to chime in.
  6. Man do I feel f***ing old when I look at a list and see David Price is 37, Mike Minor and Zack Britton are 35 and Ian Kennedy is 38.
  7. I still love the idea of adding Chad Green on a 2 year deal - stash him on the IL
  8. This report is suggesting the Mets offer was actually 6 years $157.5M? has anyone else confirmed this? He signed for MORE in Minny?
  9. The savant graphs that Tao of Stieb posted aren't from his slider though correct? That's just his overall page?
  10. I'm not following this. It's a good point that football is a lot less about the team and more about the 'party' - which certainly seems like a way to draw in other types of fans, including women. That said - every Bills game I've ever been to was a complete s*** show. Not the type of environment you'd bring your wife unless she enjoys the party (albeit lots do) - and certainly not a place I've ever considered bringing my kids to. I have to think my kids would need to be teenagers before I'd take them to a football game - which I always thought was kind of sad.
  11. Dude has 3 options left. This seems like a good pick up to add depth as our #7/#8 starter. These are the types of holes we needed to fill IMO.
  12. Should I care who Jimmy Robbins is? This article suggests he showed big league rotation promise - yet I've never heard of him.
  13. I thought they did this to add another CFer who at least owned a bat.
  14. I never really thought about that - but I think you're right. Is it? Anyone know why that is?
  15. I assume you mean NFL?
  16. Yeah I'm not buying that God declared the NFL exempt from cancel culture.
  17. Did I suggest the Jays would sign him? I'm just questioning whether the 'risk' is actually real or not. Watson, Vick, Astros, etc. have all somewhat shown that while there is some initial backlash, it's all short lived and I'm not so sure there's actually any financial or reputation repercussions. There certainly are some perceived repercussions and FULLY expect the Rogers won't touch him. I really do have a hard time believing that when it comes down to it that a significant % of the population would have strong, negative feelings about signing Bauer. Again - a team literally just traded a f***ton of assets for Deshawn Watson and made him the highest paid player in football and the face of their franchise after like 22-24 woman accused him of sexual assault.
  18. You shut your whore mouth Grant.
  19. Is this true? I can't imagine there would be a large difference in the public perception between D.Watson an Bauer. Has the public disowned the Cleveland Browns? Have sponsors left? I mean they may have, but it all generally seems to have blown over already. Your suggestion to temper expectations on how good he would pitch is fine, but the upside is obvious. If we're going to add Johnny Cueto for 1 yr $5M - obviously you'd rather have Bauer here on the league minimum.
  20. What would Toronto have had to give up to get Soto? Biggio, Otto Lopez and some prospect? Soto can't throw strikes, but I think I'd do that deal.
  21. I thought I heard/read that this is what happened.
  22. Exactly. He wasn't charged or found guilty by the courts and MLB investigated the s*** out of this and says he's allowed to play? That's all I need - sign the guy. We're right up against the luxury tax and are a WS contender. This is the f***ing perfect storm to add someone with his talent to put us over the top.
  23. I forgot this even happened. Just looked up their team in 2020 - woof - how did they grab a WC spot?
  24. DeShawn Watson is the best current example. If an NFL team can make him the highest paid player in football and the FACE OF THEIR FRANCHISE after what, 22 allegations of sexual assault, then I don't see why at least 1 MLB team won't bring on Bauer. Is administering pain to a woman (who may or may not have wanted it as a sexual fantasy) significantly worse than forcing yourself / whiping it out? Has there been significant backlash by fans in Cleveland over Watson? At this point, I think almost all the backlash is because he didn't play worth a s*** coming off that long layoff and now they are worried they gave up so much and so much cap space for someone who isn't a franchise QB.
  25. Do we have any evidence of how fans and the general public react in situations like this? I mean there are a few who really followed this case, know it inside and out and understand the nuances of the court systems and understand that just because he wasn't charged, doesn't mean he didn't do some really shaddy stuff. But that's got to be like 2% of baseball fans....These are the options I see: Option 1 - Fans simply know he was suspended for a long time and assume he did something really bad? They hear sexual assault was involved and simply conclude he's a bad dude? This is the guilty through social media, cancel culture crowd I guess? Option 2 - Fans know he was suspended for a long time for some sort of sexual assault, but they note he wasn't charged (while noticing he was simply suspended during the investigation and thus the length is a reflection of how slow the process is and now related to what he did), so they assume it must not have been that bad and they accept him back. I would suspect the vast majority of baseball fans fall under Option 2. The issue is that sponsors are so risk adverse that they may not want to touch this with a 10 foot pole - and that is what's driving a teams decision.
