  1. Rabies shots? When did the bat bite you? I've had bats get into the house a few times. f***ing terrifying. We had to call my FIL over the first time. He came in with the tennis racket and f***ing smacked that **** - sending him flying....right behind our massive wood entertainment unit. Had to move that heavy SOB to get the dead bat out. Not fun.
  2. I think the concern is that he could make $20M+ next year in arbitration, with < 2 WAR results.
  3. Welcome - you should post more!
  4. I mean if we have an interview with Guillermo or Schneider directly saying "this is our new hitting philosophy that we expect all players to follow" than I would believe that. You'll always have a hard time convincing me that their numbers with RISP are terrible because the hitting coach is telling/forcing them to adapt a new approach that he expects everyone on the team to buy into. Do you think the coach is still telling them the same thing right now and just telling them it's all bad luck - don't change a thing? "just make contact" doesn't seem to show up in the numbers either as our K% is up this year and the highest it's been since 2020. Obviously new players effect this. Is our K% with RISP way down or something? Where are we seeing evidence of a different team philosophy?
  5. The big issue is - what are you going to get for him? As Olerud is going to point out, he's going to be grossly overpaid very soon for a guy coming off a 0.5 WAR season who's obese and one of the worst defenders and base runners in baseball. I worry the Jays hands are tied. You're just hoping he can give you a season somewhat like 2021 to rebuild his trade value so you can get a haul for him. The chances of that happening are probably 'just' good enough that it's worth holding onto him instead of dumping him for a bag of balls.
  6. Do you have a video or summary of this? I don't watch pre or post game stuff because it's f***ing stupid and I don't believe a word they tell reporters.
  7. I've long felt this. I really hate Vlad. Such a waste of talent so far. It's infuriating.
  8. I certainly agree about the baserunning and defense. Why can't he just be David Ortiz FFS. I can live with him being Big Papi.
  9. In one-run games, or games that went into extra innings, the 2023 Toronto Blue Jays are 20-15...so that's not the issue. Let's put that to bed. They have been horrible with RISP, but there are lots of studies that show that's not really a talent and more a representation of luck. For a team that is 7th in the majors in wRC+ to be this bad with RISP is crazy and I suspect 'most' of it is simply bad luck and statistical anomaly. That f***ing sucks balls for the Jays; however, the good news is we may be due for a big correction of luck at the right time. Fingers crossed.
  10. The only major difference you see in his statcast data between 2021 and 2023 is the chase rate. I'm sure it's not that simple, but do you think 'most' of his issue arise from simply chasing too often? I'm not sure if this is something he can 'fix' - although he showed that ability in 2021 it seems. Maybe Guillermo is telling him to chase more pitches off the plate and he's just following orders. Bring in Billy Beane and Jonah Hill to show him that he's better if he walks more and swings less? Surely to god we already have several coaches explaining that to him? Maybe he's just f***ing stupid? That said, if you take out 2021, his best season was an OPS of .818, with the other 3 years <.800 - so maybe he does just suck - no matter how hard he hits it.
  11. Perhaps the pitcher should have stepped off properly? That's a pretty easy fix.
  12. What? What changes have they made? The size of the base changed their hitting philosophy? What?
  13. 1. Of course it was. You expect the GM to build the team expecting all 3 of those players to suck this year? 2. Why do you say that? These 3 are all good hitters and can go on extended streaks at the plate at any time. Look at what Bo did last year. 3. dfuk? If Vlad's wRC+ is 131, Kirk's is 117 and Springer's is 131 from here on out until the end of the season - this team will be in GREAT shape and I'm not sure how you think this won't be a winning team.
  14. Do people honestly think there's a team wide philosophical approach? You think Guillermo/Schneider came into camp this year and told them our new philosophy with 2 strikes is to cut down your swing and put the ball in play? or that in general, they all need to spray the ball more to all fields, or increase their contact rate? or with RISP, they all need to do something specific? Do you think ever player would buy into that and change their approach? This isn't little league. Do you think they sat Springer down and said "I know you've had a f***ton of success throughout your career, but we need you to change this year?". Do you think they've told Vlad to be more aggressive and increase his chase rate? C'mon. Each individual hitter plays to their strengths. You're not going to have a "complete philosophical overhaul". That said, would a new hitting coach help? It could, but not because he's going to change their approach. If a new coach comes in and they start hitting better with RISP, it's probably a f***ton of luck involved and sometimes you seem to get hitters more dialed in because they know their results cost someone their job. A new coach may also simply provide a new voice to the players and that might have some effect on them, as hitting is 90% mental. However, the vast majority of these players all have their own personal coach that they turn to when they are in a slump. Someone from their past (dad, uncle, etc.) who got them to the majors - someone they trust - and often someone who just tells them what they want to hear. I already told this, but I know a guy who's a skating coach for the Leafs and he says there are several players who refuse to even skate with him (and refuse to work with other internal coaches). They often don't want to hear the truth. When those players are 'stars', they often have the leverage to make the team fly in their old, trusted coach to help them because they won't listen/work with the team coaches. I 100% expect that s*** happens at in baseball also. If Vlad, Varsho, Kirk and Springer all refuse to work with Guillermo (or any other hitting coach) than there's not much he can do. Despite our struggles, we're still 7th in MLB in wRC+.
  15. I know what you're saying, but Teo certainly has the ability to put an entire team on his shoulders and carry them for a month. We all saw that multiple times over the past 3-4 years. I'd love to know what the price was to get Teo. There was no guarantee he'd come in here and get hot - but there was a chance - and when he gets hot, he gets really hot. I thought that was a chance worth taking (provided the asking price was reasonable).
  16. The Jays are right on the edge of the luxury tax limits. Why on earth are people suggesting that Rogers isn't committed to putting a winning team on the field? Winning in baseball is hard, there are a ton of variables. The Cubs went 107 years between championships, the Red Sox went 87. It sucks as a fan, but sometimes there isn't anyone to blame.
  17. D-Backs trade Chafin to the Brewers. That's a bit odd.
  18. Ross - bring me Teo. We need some Teo FFS. Let's go.
  19. That is great news.
  20. and the vesting option for 2025 if he pitches >140 innings next year. Big price, but my god - having Justin Verlander starting playoff games for your team must feel amazing. I'm glad to see Max and Verlander back on playoff teams, but wish both were in the NL!
  21. He's our version of Bob Munden, fastest gunman in the west. You can't develop a reputation as one of the very best posters on this board, while offering up almost ZERO opinions if you're posting tweets while being late to the party.
  22. what are the chances that Heyman is correct that "Bichette is not expected out too long"?
  23. You expected us to acquire a SS that would improve our offense?
