I'm dead serious. I think today has been a disaster. I hate the Yimi signing. Everyone around here HATED Yimi until he put up 2-3 good months to start 2024. I expect the probability he pitches like he did to start 2024 is like 6%. I think there's a 80% chance he spends time on the IL with elbow injuries over the next 2 years and I expect inconsistent, middling results. I would guess there's a 60% chance he finishes his contract having given us a 3.94 ERA and 0.7 WAR. Then we f***ing drop from 5th to 8th in the draft. Then we add Gimenez, who hits like Goins and we deal away a hitter projected for a 123 wRC+ when we NEED hitting. At the end of the day - I suspect NONE of this matters at all. The Jays are going to SUCK BALLS in 2025 and for the foreseeable future. Personally - I enjoy watching new young players, so it doesn't bother me much - but my kids won't understand this and may lose interest in the Jays/baseball due to this shitshow. f*** Rogers and their desire to sell corporate tickets to a bunch of rich *******s. He's a better hitter than Santander and won't cost $125M. His sprint speed is fine, so I can't imagine he's any worse than Tony defensively.

He is, but that isn't surprising, given how little he's played there since HS/College. It's incredible how versatile he is. If there's anyone who can transform themselves from a RFer into an average defensive SS, it's Mookie.

Someone just asked were Mookie is going to play in 2025...the answer is SS. Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes told reporters at the Winter Meetings that Mookie Betts is preparing to play shortstop next season. Gomes, who added that recently-extended Tommy Edman will play center field next year, told reporters last month that plan was for Betts to move back to the infield next season and we now have confirmation that he’ll be Los Angeles’ starting shortstop heading into the 2025 campaign.

You know full well it is. And I mean - it's probably true because a couple of recent ex-blue jays mentioned it and we all know Ross is keeping Yarbrough and Dillon Tate 100% up to speed on everything he's been doing.

I think it could be something like Minter, Soroka and then someone out of the LeClerc, Kittredge, Joe Kelly range. I guess Giovanny Gallegos is dead now eh? He'd be an interesting flyer if he's healthy now and perhaps spent the offseason at Driveline or something to regain velo. Give the rest of our budget to SP's or bats. Take your chances that someone jumps up and grabs the closer role by the balls.

Again - it's all based on probabilities. Rangers got Yates for like $4M last year and he got Cy Young votes. There was probably a 2%-5% chance he put up the numbers he did last year. Probably a 70% chance he broke down and got hurt. That very well may be the same probabilities for Romano this year. Would you want him for $7.75M for that probability? The Jays may assess that probability, decide that's not worth the risk and determine they either a) want to pay a bit more for higher probability, or take a chance on someone cheaper for the same, or slightly worse probability. If Romano goes on to save 45 games and is a stud this year, you can suggest the Jays assessed that probability incorrectly - and maybe they did, or perhaps they assessed the probability correctly and the Phillies just "hit". Fans will never know the true answer, so their complaints are going to be more hot air. That said, if he pitches well, this certainly is going to come with a s*** ton of bad publicity, whether it's fair or not. AA was lucky because Yates was BALLS for Atlanta, so fans never questioned his decision to let him leave. (and yes, I suspect Romano has a higher chances of success than Yates did last year)

You think it really matters when he's 40? I would think opportunities to win during your prime, far outweigh an extra year at age 41 and a few million. But maybe that's just me.

Perhaps. Lindor is still there too though - and he's building quite a legacy for the Mets himself. You also have to consider the Yanks have won the World Series ONCE in the past 23 years. There's probably something to be said about being part of a Yankees team that puts them back on top of the league - especially if you can be part of an era that brings home multiple championships.

If you're Soto - is picking the Mets over the Yanks the right move? The extra $5M is a cup of coffee for him. Who would you rather play for? I don't think either team is in "great" position to be perennial winners of the next 5 years. Both are built through free agency, neither have a ton of youth or strong farm systems and both are likely to lose several key players via free agency this offseason. Both have deep pockets to hide the mistakes they make via free agency. It will be fascinating to see how this plays out.

Coming off a 1.3 WAR season and some loud statcast numbers? Costs are astronomical. Santander is getting 5 years $125M at this rate.

Yeah, 1 yr $8.5M is fine. I was talking about a longer extension. Back in 2022/23, we were talking about how he'd really figured it out offensively and was a guy we wanted to get reps at DH when he wasn't catching. I don't think I want Jano for 3 or 4 more years.

I think we're pretty lucky we resisted the urge to extend him. The skills look to be declining. I like Jano, but his time was up IMO.
