  1. Estrada sounds intelligent too. I hope the Blue Jays can extend him for 3 years.
  2. Great pitching by Estrada and finished by Osuna. I think Estrada has been a great pick up.
  3. I think Travis is good on defense. However, people rate Goins more on his hitting than his defense, and Devon Travis is a better hitter. The best way to rate Travis is in comparison to a player who is good both defensively and offensively such as Donaldson. Maybe Travis will be that good but it is too early to say. Back to the game. Nice home run by Bautista.
  4. It is good to know that even if Martin is out for a few games that Navarro will be a good back up. Now if the team can just start playing over .500 baseball.
  5. Navarro deserves the starts that he has been getting. Maybe even more.
  6. Today's starting lineup - http://m.mlb.com/news/article/137370244/todays-starting-lineups-july-19 Rays DH: John Jaso RF: Grady Sizemore 3B: Evan Longoria 1B: James Loney 2B: Logan Forsythe LF: David DeJesus SS: Tim Beckham CF: Kevin Kiermaier C: Rene Rivera Blue Jays SS: Jose Reyes 3B: Josh Donaldson RF: Jose Bautista DH: Edwin Encarnacion C: Dioner Navarro 1B: Justin Smoak LF: Chris Colabello CF: Kevin Pillar 2B: Devon Travis
  7. I think the best manager would be someone who has had some success in the big leagues, is a natural leader, fair-minded, highly intelligent and can be tough when required. I don't know if such a person exists. Cito Gaston was a great manager; is it possible to find another manager as good as Cito Gaston?
  8. Sometimes a batter can be trying for a hit but get credited with a sac fly and RBI, however, often a hitter will actually control his swing and just try to lift the ball deep enough for a sac fly (it will depend on the hitter and who is running at 3rd base). That is why a sac fly is counted as a plate appearance but not an at-bat. I might be misunderstanding your intention but you seem to think that a player can control bunts but not sac fly's.
  9. Is there any chance of the Blue Jays getting Chris Archer? (probably not but it would be a great pick up) Maybe once he becomes a free agent in a few more years.
  10. The effect might not be as immediate, but in a tight game against good pitching, the bunt helps a team stay out of a double play and if done with the first out gives them two outs to get a hit and score a run. A bunt can also turn into a hit if it is done with a speedy hitter such as Reyes. I don't think most batters are thinking alike when they hit a line drive and sac fly. For a sac fly the batter knows they just have to get the ball into the air so they aren't swinging for the fences. An intentional sac fly is unlikely to turn into a home run or even a base hit (this is based on BABIP percentage for line drives versus fly balls). I believe both sac flies and bunts are suitable in some situations.
  11. Luckily the Blue Jays management isn't totally against sac flies and bunts such as some fans are.
  12. Do you know the revenue breakdown for the Blue Jays? What percentage is in US dollars (MLB USD TV revenue that is split between all clubs) versus Canadian revenue (merchandise, Canadian TV revenue, ticket sales). The weak Canadian dollar seemed to have a negative effect on the Expos. Although the effect on the Blue Jays might be less than on NHL Canadian teams, I wonder how it could have no effect. Certainly the Blue Jays would be better off if the dollar was still at par as it was a few years ago than at 0.77 USD/CAD.
  13. It is just as possible that Jose Reyes would have hit into a double play and there would have been two out and no one on base. Things would have unfolded differently if Reyes hadn't bunted but it may not be the way you assume. Even if Reyes did get one base with a hit then everything changes, the pitches to Donaldson wouldn't have been exactly the same and he might not have even hit a home run.
  14. I predict that the Blue Jays will have a good win loss record over the next two weeks. The 4 day rest will benefit older impact players on the Blue Jays such as Bautista, Encarnacion, Reyes, and Martin, and also Sanchez should be back soon (after one more game in Buffalo).
  15. The US to Canadian dollar exchange rate has sunk to $0.77 USD/CAD; this makes it more difficult for the team to afford player contracts that are almost always in US dollars. Every $10 million in Canadian revenue (tickets, merchandise, Canadian TV revenue) becomes only $7.7 million in US revenue. Hopefully the exchange rate will increase in the future. A low exchange rate is great for Canadian manufactures and distributors who sell to the US but bad for Canadian sports team in the MLB and NHL.
  16. If Hutchison can limit the number of balls hit into left field to Colabello then the Blue Jays have a good chance of winning. I believe Jose Reyes will have a good game tonight since he has had 4 days rest. I want to root for Colabella but his errors and limited range are really killing the Blue Jays chances.
  17. It is painful watching the Blue Jays. Zaun is wrong. Bautista shouldn't be arguing balls and strikes he should just make one comment and then focus on the next pitch.
  18. Bautista did the same thing in a game last year against Tampa in a game the Jays needed to win. I was at the game. Later on, a fly ball has missed by Nolan in RF that cost them the game. This is what I mean, the Blue Jays don't have a winning attitude.
  19. Reyes seems to be able to get a hit when needed. I have confidence in Travis to have a good at bat.
  20. Nice Pillar. Nice triple.
  21. I will stick by what I said. Players know that the team hasn't been to the playoffs in 22 years. If nothing else they know that the GM won't make the right moves for the right players and the Manager won't make the right moves such as putting Goins in for Reyes late in games. Certainly Blue Jays fans don't have high expectations. The Blue Jays have become like the Maple Leafs.
  22. Wasn't Valencia hit by the ball?
  23. How stupid was Martin's play. Why didn't he hustle back to 3rd.
  24. Kansas expects to win because of last year and Toronto after 22 years of losing expects to lose.
  25. Kansas finds ways to win, Toronto finds ways to lose.
