  1. Going off of what is being reported. Norris throws fairly hard for a LHP, but his fastball has average life. Smoral has been described as having nasty natural cutting action on his fastball, and I believe his slider has the upside to be better than any secondary pitch that Norris throws.
  2. Smoral has better pure stuff than Norris IMO. More devastating out pitch; more movement on his fastball.
  3. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL. We prob need to throw Stroman in too brah.
  4. Trea Turner homers off Miguel Castro who makes his Lansing debut tonight. Castro did end up striking out 2 afterwards.
  5. Barreto 2 for 2 with 2 HRs. Elite. Pentecost 2 for 2 with a double.
  6. Its not weighted-ball related (theres not even any indication that he is on the program). His velocity was highly erratic in HS as well; the hope was that his frame+athleticism would signal growth to consistently throwing 90+. He'd be 84-88 one start and then 89-93 the next...the last two years with the Jays he's been in that 84-87 range.
  7. Yeah, it was like that last year as well. Not much of a Pro prospect, but they still like his pitch-ability/competitiveness. Good example of "projectable" HS pitchers not always gaining velocity; he was throwing 90+ in HS.
  8. Gabr-notbotheringtospellhisname to Dunedin.
  9. Luke Weaver pitching against Dunedin so it should be an interesting match up.
  10. Jesse G-S ‏@jgoldstrass The #Lugnuts' radar gun is untrustworthy... but Jimmy Cordero's fastball is consistently hitting triple-digits. Fact: it's coming in hot. Apparently hitting 104 on the gun LMAO.
  11. Whats your source on these? At the time of the signing, the reported Jays offer for Chapman was $23 million. We worked him out first hand in Dunedin. "On Friday El Nuevo Herald, a Spanish-language edition of the Miami Herald, reported that the Jays had offered Chapman a $23 million deal, and that that Los Angeles Angels, home of Chapman's friend and training partner Kendry Morales, offered a similar but undisclosed sum."
  12. Good feel for hitting with an advanced approach at the plate. Good power upside which hasn't really materialized yet, but many argue that it is because he already looks to use the entire field when hitting. He's also got an above-average arm at 3B, albeit average at best range. I'd personally rank Barreto over him as well.
  13. A tiny one, but it paints a perfect example of them hilariously overstating a newly drafted player over a superior prospect who has not only age, but performance on his side. Barreto would challenge for .400 if you threw him back into the GCL.
  14. Franklin Barreto: 50 Michael Chavis: 55 Chavis, drafted 26th overall, is older than Barreto by almost 7 months and is hitting .093 to date, two levels below Barreto in the GCL. I'm not one to use stats (especially in the low minors) to extrapolate tools/ability, but come on man. The grades they give out are all over the place.
  15. Shiny New Toy syndrome.
  16. If it was about "Future" then Barreto would be 60+ in Hit. There is not a chance in hell that DJ Davis is anywhere near those two in "Hit" tool, whether you want to talk "Now" or "Future"...and this is coming from a guy who still holds some level of hope for Davis. Giving those three the same grade in that category is simply s*****, lazy, evaluation.
  17. Its a lazy attempt. For instance, they have Barretto, Lugo and DJ Davis all with "50 Hit" grades. You can not seriously argue that Davis' hit tool is as good as Lugo's, let alone Barreto who is a potentially elite contact hitter. s***; Lugo and Davis are on the same team with Lugo being younger...their performance: Lugo: .283 average, 13.6% strikeout rate Davis: .213 average, 30.4% strikeout rate Same Hit grade? Even taking into account for Davis' tools', its not close.
  18. Headley is hitting .229/.289/.371 vs. LHP this year. More useful my ass. Last year it was .248/.327/.436. That is your definition of an upgrade? Francisco has a .912 OPS vs RHP this year. I'd rather keep that and find a more useful player to help against LHP if that is your prerogative.
