  1. Phillies supposedly drafting Cornelius Randolph, which would be the first real surprise pick if you want to call it.
  2. As the draft approaches; some 2nd/3rd round bats I like: OF/3B Bryce Denton: Young, good bat speed, power upside OF Kep Brown: Young, big power upside, good physical upside, Blown achilles has hurt his stock but I think he'd be a potential first rounder had he not been hurt. 3B Ryan Mountcastle: Big bat speed, power upside to all fields OF Miles Gordon: Youngest player in the draft, looks like Pompey out of HS. CF profile with speed and hitting upside. 4th round type target for me.
  3. I see very little chance they'd draft Orimoloye over a HS pitcher in the 2nd round.
  4. It will come down to control and walk rate or him. Derek Lowe made a career as an above-average starter with low strikeout and swinging strike rates due to his ability to pound the zone with his sinker. Of course, Lowe had much better overall control than Sanchez. Sanchez doesn't need swinging strikes to succeed, he needs to control his pitches.
  5. You posted on Blue Jays Way? I used to post on there too LOL.
  6. I don't remember any such reports. I think that Giolito would have been a near lock for us. Injuries have never scared this regime (see: Clinton Hollon, Patrick Murphy). A big part of the DJ Davis pick that a lot of people seem to look past is the fact that he was an under-slot guy which ultimately gave us more freedom to get creative later.
  7. McDaniels' mock also mentions that we are in on LHP Juan Hillman.
  8. Naylor is superior. More bat speed, taps into his raw power easier.
  9. Kiley McDaniel final mock: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-final-mock-draft/
  10. Pedroia was smashing doubles left and right in his college days (a big predictor of future hitting ability). His plate disciplined was also elite and much better than Kingery's (48 walks, 15 strikeouts his final season). If you look at his MLB success; extra base hits and his walk/strikeout rate are basically what make him an elite hitter. Yes, Pedroia's size clouded scouts away from his elite hitting ability. While Kingery has shown to be a good hitter, his college performance is really nowhere near Pedroia's. He doesn't come close in power (Pedroia also hit 9 HRs his final season), and he doesn't come close in plate discipline.
  11. Kiley McDaniel's updated big board, now with ~200 names: http://www.fangraphs.com/scoutboard.aspx 1B Josh Naylor has jumped all the way to #29 overall.
  12. BA Mock Draft 5.1: http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/mlb-mock-draft-2015-version-5-1/
  13. The lists mean literally nothing with regards to what will actually happen. If you've followed the last few weeks, he's jumped up with several teams ahead of us favouring safer college bats. Newman, a guy who has won the Cape Cod batting title two years in a row, is a near virtual lock to be gone before #29. BA also has Nick Plummer 11th overall yet his real stock now appears to be in the 20-30 range.

  15. I wasn't talking about Pompey at all, just in general and specifically referring to Snider who people still seem convinced we "ruined" by calling up a year early. I don't buy it.
  16. Urena with another double and a walk already.
  17. Does history really show that, or is it something people just like to fall back on when a "top prospect" fails?
  18. 4 for 4, 2 doubles, HR. From a 19 year old SS. The two doubles came off 1st round pick Jack Flaherty.
