  1. Beeston was on his way out anyway; worst case scenario you make him sit quietly in an office somewhere for a ~year, its not like the franchise will fold without his "leadership". The Baltimore outcome is much worse as Duquette is someone they had no plan or intention of replacing, and now he's supposed to just go back to work as if nothing happened? Its not like Duquette is going to put the blame on us for not getting a deal done as he's smart enough to know that no one in their right mind should be expected to trade "Hoffman plus more" to give him a freaking promotion.
  2. So we walk away and Baltimore is stuck with a GM that willingly wanted to walk away and was denied a promotion by his hothead owner who f***ed up the deal by making retarded demands as compensation? LOOOOOOOOL.
  3. FanGraphs uploaded the following video a couple days ago of RHP Juan Meza, our top IFA signing from last year:
  4. Duh. "Half-assing" it doesn't imply just signing one guy (Guerrero Jr) to me. They are are obviously going to spend more than ~$3 million. What I'm saying is that we don't really need to go full-Yankees to actually make it worthwhile.
  5. Even if they "half-ass" it, its still better than the alternative of just sticking to slot...
  6. Except the Yankees can't do that, you know, since they blew past their cap during this past year's class.
  7. Extreme groundball pitchers CAN get away with low swinging strike rates. Go look at Derek Lowe who throughout his long career consistently posted low swinging strike rates, low strikeout rates, etc. It is an anomaly because very few pitchers have the ability to throw a fastball that induces such poor contact, but it absolutely IS possible.
  8. He just released the following article, listing us in his top group of teams (along with the Cubs and Phillies) that he feels most confident will spend over their pool. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-international-bonus-pools-dont-matter/ Its looking like that Vlad Guerrero Jr. speculation may be accurate.
  9. This. Japan is insanely humid.
  10. Bob Elliott just posted an odd story refuting most of what is being reported:
  11. The GCL may simply be too much for him to handle from a competition standpoint. Its hard to really gauge his talent-level, but given the fact that there isn't much national reporting of this signing he doesn't appear to be a kid who is expected to hop over to the USA and compete immediately, especially considering that our minor league system is bottom heavy and thus there will be competition for a GCL roster spot. Is a kid from Belgium really going to deserve those at-bats over some equally intriguing kid in our system from Latin America? There would be a culture shock for him going to the DR, but that is no different than any kid from the DR/Venezuela hopping over to the USA every year. The second culture shock you talk about (DR to USA) is overblown as Belgium is a very developed Western country. They learn English there and an educated 19 year old like himself can likely already speak English at a passable level.
  12. Seriously? He wasn't selected where he was drafted because he projected as a backup catcher. Why is it too early to be optimistic? He was viewed as a consensus Top 15 or better talent. That is where the hype is coming from. 100 at bats coming off a collegiate season doesn't magically change any of that.
  13. No, he doesn't. His speed has dropped down to a ~70 grade.
  14. I told you guys a million times not to underrate Labourt. 6'4 lefty who legitimately SITS in the mid 90's, with a solid looking slider and changeup as well. There are a lot of people who really like him, as you can see.
  15. It isn't just about the actual distance of the walls, but the total hitting environment. Things like elevation and the fact that the ball carries in the RC are the main factors.
  16. Yup. WAR around 7 the last two years. Plus you have to expect his hitting will get even better in Rogers.
  17. Because his age technically makes him an "amateur".
  18. BA just named him #1 prospect in Detroit's system.
  19. http://mrwgifs.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Terrorist-Kumal-Aka-Kal-Penn-Laughing-Hysterically-In-Harold-and-Kumar-Escape-From-Guantanamo-Bay.gif
  20. Pentecost has the athleticism to play elsewhere on the field, IIRC there was talk of him potentially being able to play 2B if he were to wash out behind the plate.
  21. The difference now is that the Rays need to re-tool but after several poor drafts their farm system is pedestrian. Oh how the "mighty" have fallen. Friedman isn't retarded, he wasn't going to keep winning in Tampa.
  22. Yan Gomes was developed by the Blue Jays. No one, not even the Indians imaged him ever being this good, but he was developed by the Blue Jays.
  23. No, he wasn't. Since drafted he has added a strong cutter which is the main contributing factor to his upswing this past season. It is also the biggest reason as to why he has been able to lower his HR/9, which he struggled with in the minors.
  24. No one, not even the Indians, knew what they were getting with Gomes. He's been exponentially better than expected in literally every aspect of his game...that s*** rarely happens. It sucks, but you just have to get over it. Gomes turning into a 4+ WAR player is an even bigger anomaly than Bautista turning into what he did in Toronto.
  25. From your own link: UPDATE: It bears noting that the new study, which has not yet been published (it was presented at the annual Society of Neuroscience conference in November), is contradicted by a body of evidence showing actual cognitive benefits of the drug. Healthland’s Maia Szalavitz reported: How much were they dosed? For how long? You can skew data to prove whatever point you want. One pill isn't going to magically raise your test score overnight.
