  1. Puerto Rican 5th round pick Jose Espada made his GCL debut today; a clean 2 innings with 0 hits, 0 walks, and 3 strikeouts. He was relieved by Juan Meza, our top IFA signee from last year's class. Meza currently has 1 inning pitched with 0 hits, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts.
  2. Brentz was a lot better pitching at a lower velocity last year. We'll see how the reports progress this year, but I don't expect a "lefty throwing 98mph" from Brentz.
  3. I don't know why people keep trying to bring this up, it really doesn't mean much. Pompey was a near unknown when we drafted him, I vividly remember the only "film" on him being a home video on Youtube of him shagging fly balls at some park (not a baseball field, a public park). The point? He was a blank slate and therefore his skills were a projection. To claim that Orimoloye is "miles ahead" doesn't all of a sudden mean that he's a much better prospect. Orimoloye has been on the elite circuit for ~2 years now playing with and against the top American kids in his class, he SHOULD be further ahead. That exposure also means that his flaws are a lot easier to pick out. Had Pompey been in Orimoloye's shoes it is very possible that his skills would have been widely discovered earlier, and he'd have been a ~top 2 round pick.
  4. What with all those front office connections you possess league wide, right?
  5. Cardenas is starting at SS for Vancouver tonight.
  6. Jesus Severino signed for $400K two years ago. After struggling in the DSL last year, he was hitting .354/.483/.396 this year before they brought him up to the GCL just recently.
  7. Juan Meza was our big seven figure IFA signee last year. Jesus Severino, Hansel Rodriguez, Bryan Lizardo, Kelyn Jose, and Miguel Almonte were all six figure IFA signings as well worth watching. Justin Maese was was our 3rd round pick in this draft. I don't know much about Edward Olivares, but he's still 19 and had a big year in the DSL last year so he's probably worth keeping an eye on.
  8. Orimoloye wasn't ranked "30" by anyone by the time the draft rolled around. More realistically he was 60-100, and its possible that draft writers didn't even knock down far enough.
  9. Hollon is going to be a huge breakout prospect this year. There was a time when he was arguably the best HS pitcher in his class. He's got a great arm.
  10. Late pop-up kid who didn't even dream of getting a $300K offer ~6 months ago. This is way less than I thought he'd get, so it is still surprising.
  11. Yeah, strong relationships being formed: "Hey Justin Hooper you wanna sign for $100K bro?" "Who is this?" "Its the Brewers we just drafted you" "Cool. Nah I'm going to UCLA, bye" "Alright Justin we looove you!!" "Please don't call me again"

  18. Alright, do we really need a photo-shoot of the kid?
  19. Marrick Crouse ranked #234 on Mat Garrioch's rankings.
  20. 11th round should typically be a guy you feel you can sign because they've had all yesterday to talk to targets.
  21. I'd love to see your calculations as to where we're going to save $700-900K with the guys we drafted.
