  1. Juan Then was originally a Mariners prospect. I guess they wanted him back from the Yankees
  2. Ricky Romero spotted at Nat Bailey stadium
  3. Add me
  4. That’s all the Mariner’s are getting for eating half of Edwin’s salary?
  5. I’ve been a huge advocate of Gurriel in LF since before they sent him down in April. He even surprised me a bit, fits there a lot more than 2B and has been nice to see. There’s going to be errors occasionally as he builds reps and learn the position, but he’s already made a few spectacular plays there in small sample and hasn’t been a big liability defensively. His bat also plays in the corner if he hits like this.
  6. https://www.latimes.com/sports/highschool/la-sp-high-school-baseball-pete-crow-armstrong-20190512-story.html Here’s an article on Pete Crow-Armstrong, projected top prep bat in the class. I’ve also heard some really good things about 3B Austin Martin from Vanderbilt and of course Spencer Torkelson, 1B/OF supposedly elite bat. A couple sources say that the 2020 draft is a pretty strong draft, better than both 2018 and 2019. We will see, there’s still a lot of uncollected data. But it’s nice to see scouts already raving about next year (more than usual) when we for sure will have a very high pick. Draft eligible pitchers we recognize from 2018 year’s draft class that didn’t sign such as Cole Wilcox and J.T. Ginn. Definitely more high-end pitching talent this time around after a bit of a pitcher drought in 2019. Early names include Emerson Hancock and Asa Lacy. Mocks this early don’t mean anything, but just to browse some names over.

  9. This was posted in the 2018 thread but I’ll repost it here so guys don’t need to dig up the old one. We are linked to Rikelvin De Castro BA: MLB Pipeline:
  10. The Vancouver Canadians (A-) is sporting an interesting opening day lineup. Will record tomorrow’s broadcast on SNP 7PM PST to get a first look at them. Cameron Eden (6th round) batting leadoff was not a surprise, but playing 3B was interesting. He played a lot of SS and CF in college and showed both good speed and hitting ability. He’s probably my favorite draft pick on day 2 this year (R3-10), can steal bases and a good glove that can put bat on baseball. Tanner Morris (5th round) showed a really good bat in college, played SS but he may end up 3B/OF. Terrific plate discipline with a bit of pop. Trevor Schwecke (13th round) plays SS, was 2B today. Hit a ton of doubles in college. Doesn’t have a ton of HR power, interesting they put him 3rd in the order. Will Robertson (4th round) is the big bat in the lineup with plus raw power. Had 15 dingers in college. Should be fine in RF. Might have the most upside offensively out of all our draft picks this year. Robertson can bring power from corner OF position similar to Conine last year. McGregory Contreras and Dom Abbadessa both had a cup of coffee in full season Lansing, struggled a bit offensively and is now returning to Vancouver. Both very athletic outfielders and young developing bats, a bit raw offensively. Contreras put up 116 wRC+ in Vancouver last season, Abbadessa put up 110 wRC+, both should be moving back up to Lansing if they hit. Abbadessa has some good speed and a base-stealing threat (played mostly CF) and Contreras has some pop in his bat (played mostly LF). Ronny Brito was acquired from the Russell Martin trade. Put up some decent numbers in the Dodgers rookie-ball team, need to tame his high strikeout numbers. Played 4 games in Dunedin this season and was okay in small sample, still K’s too much. Just turned 20. Adam Kloffenstein needs no introduction.
  11. If the calculations above are right they have enough to pay Brown 1M (320K overslot) and Clarke 400k (250K overslot)
  12. I would’ve banked on Bichette for April 2020 too, but Davidi came out and said he is hearing from the front office Bichette will get called up this season, “A matter of weeks” if he hits in Buffalo. This surprised me a bit. His sources are usually legit, but things can still change. It was a topic of discussion on both ATL and the Jeff Blair show. I’m thinking a move has to happen during the deadline to create playing time and we see Bichette in July/Aug.
  13. They might have to move Galvis or Drury somehow or Galvis goes on the IL. You want Bichette playing literally every day like Vlad.
  14. Awesome. He’ll have a couple more of those I’m pretty sure.
  15. Don’t let this stop, keep her going LGJ
  16. Biggio, Gurriel, Vlad, and Smoak has been steady, but this offense cranks up several gears when Tellez, Galvis, and Jansen are also hitting or get on base.
  17. If even one of those three guys make the majors we’ve done well Yosver Zulueta sounds like a lights-out arm and the two Dutch kids have upside
  18. He gave up a ridiculous 18 homers in 76 IP in 2018 and 7 homers in 34.2 IP in 2019 and a 39.9% flyball rate, with a 15.2-18.9% HR/FB ratio.. pitching in Pittsburg. Yikes. Pirates (PNC Park) has a 0.970 HR park factor, Rogers Centre is 1.613. http://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/parkfactor if you look at 2018 it's still 0.849 vs 1.125, not a great sign. Seems to have an especially hard time against lefties, getting hit pretty hard.
  19. Low 90s FB with an interesting curve. Throws changeup, cutter, and sinker as well based on statcast.
  20. Still 27, but has mostly been a minor leaguer since 2010. Didn’t pitch well for the Pirates either.
  21. Not to mention we might not have Nate Pearson from his comp pick.
  22. Of course Mancini is now at the plate
  23. Based on past signings sure. But if we continue to not develop quality arms they need to reconsider. Are we really competing with NY, BOS, and TB with two mid-rotation arms and a bunch of backend guys? What’s our answer to James Paxton, Chris Sale, and Blake Snell? What happens if we face the Astros in the postseason? Or Twins/CLE in a wildcard game? Even if Nate becomes a stud we probably need at minimum one more legit arm if not two to win 90+ games in this division. That 7th year might be a small price to pay to not waste the primes of Vlad, Bichette, and co. Whether if it’s Cole or someone else they need frontline pitching somehow. If they have to package prospects down the road and make like a “Chris Sale trade” similar to BOS in 2016/17 then yeah do it. But opportunities like that aren’t always available.
