This Mets-Marlins make-up game is so strange. It seems to be from April and the Gameday boxscore is just a bunch of pinch hitters because half their lineup from April are on different teams. Have these two divisional rivals really not had another opportunity to make up this game?
(This game should be a gift to the Mets but we all know they'll f*** it up)
It wouldn't have even been a thing until they started talking about it. It would have just been another things guys do, like finger pistols.
There are just so many layers of stupid here.
I have no idea what the context of this gif is, but I have almost 100% confidence that this guy (and nearly every fan) would never be able to handle the live pressure and relentless criticism at their places of work that pro athletes do. They'd run crying to HR, but (for example) Alejandro Kirk has to read about his own home broadcast calling his error "disgusting" and just swallow it.
They definitely could do a lot of damage. But it does sort of look like a season's worth of self-owning themselves is going to keep them from that opportunity.
I really don't care about sports fans taking some s*** from athletes, but it is a pretty bad look for the Mets brand for players to be openly indignant about their performance like this.
Walk-single-single probably would have been a run, but they got single-single-walk, so just bases loaded.
And even if not:
Double-play and short flyout would have been one run, but they got short flyout and double play instead for zero runs.
I can't believe this series. The Tigers scored three runs during regular time, with one being unearned on what would have been the last out in the last game. And the bullpen can't even dumb luck themselves out of an implosion in extras.
Tbh I want to hate this but there has been so much stupid s*** from the bullpen this season. Thorton against 7-8-9 probably has as good a chance of working out as anything else. At least let your better guys blow it against their best hitters.
I understand that he hates the style of catching, but the fire being directed at Kirk himself is really strange. Is Kirk not playing as he's trained to?
I really don't like how every broadcaster seems to be tearing Kirk down lately. Siddall called his play disgusting the other day. He f***ed up but that's pretty harsh from the hometown broadcast.
I don't think I can take any more of these horrific bullpen collapses. How can Montoyo even be blamed? The gas cans have been replaced with gas cans. How are so many guys totally incapable of even having a competitive outing?
The Tigers have nearly caught LA and Cleveland in the WC standings. They might even end up in second place in the Central. They seem like a right pain in the ass.
People in this thread need to chill. The Red Sox series could have been three losses instead of wins without Valera's swinging bunts and barely-fair doubles. It's baseball.
It sort of feels like he treats even small deficits as mop-up time. He really had much better options in every situation there and you know he'd have used his best guns if it was a 1-run lead instead of trailing. It's a short game so overuse was not really any issue either.
