  1. The team won and you were literally wrong. Take the L and celebrate with the rest of us ffs
  2. Siddall keeps talking about how no pitcher would ever admit to his manager that he can't go for one more batter... but Ryu is also the dude who pulled himself last week during a gem against the Yankees. Not saying he should have remained in the game but maybe he's just unusually honest? Whatever. I can't believe that game became a win. This season is so dramatic, wow.
  3. Hope not. Every AB since Springer has resulted in a well struck ball.
  4. I don't even blame the ump for the original Stanton slide call. It took that single-frame ball tickle replay to convince me of the tag. He really did seem safe.
  5. Every one of these five teams is a good weekend away from getting into a Wild Card slot, a bad weekend away from losing it, and then another good weekend away from dramatically coming out on top.
  6. I am honestly so impressed that everything Pat says is dripping with more homoeroticism than the last thing he said.
  7. ^It's a great lineup but Dickerson where he is seems like Montoyo just not thinking hard enough about a better solution.
  8. Maybe Matz likes throwing to Reese? Maybe no faith in Kirk's defence in a tight game? That's all I can think of. I like having Lamb and Dickerson both in there, but Dickerson leading off (AND playing CF) is a big eye roll. My gut says Montoyo thinks his lineup is jenga and if he moves the big boppers around they'll fall off their momentum.
  9. Mariners take huge lead in extras against the D-backs. Tbh it feels really bratty to be annoyed by this considering the universe gave Cleveland 11 runs over the Sox and Baltimore taking two from NY.
  10. There really is something about games in Toronto in which Elvis Andrus plays on the opposing team. Someone write something about this phenomenon.
  11. Pen is always the first thing that comes to mind when I wonder at this year's results to date. I also seem to remember SP length also being a huge problem in the first half. I remember feeling relieved during Ryu starts because you could reasonably hope for 6IP. I've never looked at the numbers to see if that was better or worse than other teams' SPs, but it felt pretty dire for the first few months. To the point that I would never feel safe watching even a four or five run lead, and I've watched ball for decades to know how unlikely huge comebacks tend to be.
  12. I don't understand the annoyance tbh. No one should want the players to be as miserable as our gameday threads are. No one's ever worked in a horrible work environment before? s*** sucks.
  13. It just makes the Phillies and Mets look that much more pathetic, which I love.
  14. I love that the Braves looked completely broken in the middle of the year and have somehow McGyvered a new team together and really look like they're going to post a good enough W-L to take that division.
  15. The Mets brand looks horrible right now, six months after all the hype and trades and Lindor. Brutal.
  16. More: with the exceptions of 2013 and 19, the home team (Wild Card #1) has always won the WC game. Both exceptions were the Rays. This obviously only pertains to the AL, but it's really working out for at least one half of the league! The separation between NL WC1 and 2 is a bit larger since 2012 (about 3 or 4 GB), but it's still not that bad.
  17. With the exception of 2017 and 18, the two successful Wild Card qualifiers have been separated by one game or fewer (since the addition of the WC playoff in 2012). That's pretty interesting. Several of them would have just been tie-breaker games pre-2012. Like any curmudgeon, I am skeptical of any changes to the season, but I really think this system is excellent. It puts that much more value on a division title, hasn't watered down the competition in the playoffs, and still provides a nice mirage to mediocre teams to keep them from obviously chucking in the towel.
  18. The remaining two games being played tonight involve all four teams likliest to be in this year's NLDSes. Both games are tied at 2 in the 7th!
  19. This game was a win minus another f***-up in the field, just like two of the Detroit games. Even the Monday win involved the whole infield colliding to whiff a pop-up and watch Bichette face-plant on the mound. They kind of look like goofs out there. My cracking point was actually when Cimber struck out Mullins on like three pitches after a lead-off walk scored because of a botched pick-off and bloopish hit to the 9-hitter after being gifted strike 2 in what might have been the worst strike call all year.
  20. GF just said that without a doubt I have bitched more about Jays games this year than I have even in previous seasons. I really feel like the f***ery is through the roof this year, but I can't tell if it's the result of an otherwise good team being disappointing or if the f***ery is actually higher this season. (I still feel like 2013 was the biggest soul crusher of the recent-ish past. 2021 is still mostly enjoyable.)
  21. This is the second time this season Springer has been hurried off the IL only to tweak something within the next few games. And of course the four runs come as an indirect result of a perfectly shifted 2b whiffing a groundball and a pointless pick-off thrown into RF to get a trash-hitting speedster who was walked for no reason.
  22. It was a one-run game with two outs in the sixth. You still have the whole lineup getting one more shot at the O's pen. I just disagree that it was the time to start pulling strings, regardless of the offensive struggles (they did score seven last night).
  23. You then have to burn one of your other OFs though. Either you replace Dickerson immediately with Dyson or Dickerson takes over for Gurriel. There are three innings left and you're facing the Orioles.
  24. He sort of did but... yet another fielding screw up. Is there a season when I've said "are you kidding me" more than this one? Probably, but I can't remember which. On the brightside, the O's are 40-90 so they are fairly likely to screw this up.
