  1. Does anyone have a Dickey start-by-start breakdown for 2013-2014? I'm not saying this line of thinking is wrong, but I'm also curious if the East is what's cost him his effectiveness or if it's just across the board (i.e., he's over the hill, which was and is a legit criticism of the deal to get him).
  2. Man, O.co always sounds like a lot of fun. Like, it sounds as close to a soccer crowd as a baseball game gets. Always something being chanted or rattled.
  3. O's and M's both lose. Next up for them: each other!
  4. MLB.com scoreboard called it. I thought the rain stopped too, but.
  5. Yankees get a gift game. 14 innings last night and 5 tonight, so it nearly evens out. f*** off.
  6. Headley walks off the Yanks. Dammit.
  7. f***in' Mets. Come on, you scrubs.
  8. Soria escapes bottom 13 by the skin of his teeth. Game keeps on, though. Come on, Beltre.
  9. Just looked at the lineup. Embarrassing, particularly on a day when the Yankees land Headley for Solarte.
  10. All I recall is that the trade involved Texas. Was it ever confirmed it was involving Kinsler? I also recall mention of a failed physical. Was that Santos or the TX player? On the DFA: An odd move at the moment, unless he's done something I'm not aware of (I missed the whole TX series).
  11. As much as I want rival WC teams to throw out a white flag, any ~.500 team is still in it. On the other hand, Fangraphs just posted a sobering article (for KC fans*) on the reality of the situation: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/its-time-for-the-royals-to-trade-james-shields/ *That sounds like I think KC fans are drunk with optimism, but in reality they're probably more bitter and disgruntled than Jays fans. We should still feel bad for them though, because even though we both root for decades-impotent baseball teams at least we don't have to live our lives in Kansas City.
  12. Sure, whatever spices up the game. Extra entertainment is fun. The "sanctity of professionalism" writers can get bent as far as I'm concerned. MLB shouldn't be the No Fun League. I still can't help but roll my eyes at Rodney, though. It was basically like a villain in a pro wrestling match turning his back on the ring to gloat at the crowd and then getting f***ing smashed from behind with a folding chair by the hero.
  13. I love it. I have nothing against Rodney's schtick in and of itself, but I love it when acts like his get shoved in his face like that. Drama and hilarity. Did anyone see him shoot the arrow into the Angel dugout after getting his team out of a 2-out, runner at 1st "jam" in bottom 8? Calhoun took him to the warning track in CF and he decided there was enough skin left on his teeth to showboat at the competition. Hilarious that he immediately gascanned in the ninth.
  14. Literally took the words out of my post. The Marlins trade changed everything. Whatever was brewing beforehand in off-season 2011 changed in off-season 2012.
  15. I'd say Elliot's vague, unqualified tweet has more to prove than the FO of a $130+ baseball team. Who knows what context AA declined a salary-heavy move? Unless a context is provided of AA pre-empting any negotiation with "I have no more money" Elliot's tweet should be under scrutiny and no more believable than AA's corporate hedging. What the tweet does do, however, is put AA in a situation where he can neither confirm or deny it. Confirming it admits failure to the fanbase. Declining it sets up unreal expectations among that same base: "If no salary restrictions, why not Cliff Lee?" It's an especially touchy subject to broach publicly while still navigating the whirlwind of a trade deadline.
  16. So frustrating. 14 games over with a nice cushion building and then a month plus of something like .350 play. Shotgun, meet foot. September will be the deciding factor for the East, just like a lot of people thought coming into the season. This series is big in determining who stays in striking distance and who might get pushed to the fringe by the last few weeks. Still, 63 games left with three key bats hopefully returning soon (four if you count Reimold) and I think the most dramatic turns are yet to come.
  17. I'm probably an outlier here, but I like Bautista plenty. He clearly wants to win in the way Doc did while he was here, but Joey doesn't have the calm personality Doc did. The problem with Bautista's intensity is that it probably comes off as dictatorial in-house (I've been a part of several groups and teams on which one person's fervor results in resentment). Jose is the kind of guy who would ask an underachieving player why the f*** they're there if they aren't going to do this properly and get legitmately upset when the answer is simply money.
  18. Bautista sending more than a shot across the FO's bow here. He's basically calling out AA once again for not doing enough to build a winner. I think a couple of years ago at the AS game he even made a "not getting any younger!" statement. He's also telling the current replacement Jays that they suck (he's not wrong). Jose doesn't seem like the kind of guy who's too thrilled about sharing a field with Gose, Mastroianni, Glenn, or whichever replacement matchup of the week. The man is a hot head, but I also don't think it's a bad thing - unless you're playing on a team of scrubs. Full measure attitudes don't mesh well in a group of underachievers. I wouldn't be surprised if Jose has lost his s*** on Reyes, Mastroianni or whomever else in the clubhouse.
  19. If the pitching staff keep it close, it'll be our top 3 in the ninth. Hopefully we can get something before then though.
  20. They aren't baseball fans; just Toronto fans. They view each game and season through a blue lens. That's why so many suggestions and criticisms are tinged with hysteria.
  21. I'm all for this. Even in tight games, you know Gibby isn't factoring Thole into any strategies.
