  1. At least we can be comfortable with half of that 1B platoon
  2. Not seeing any of this, only reading from my phone. What's this about Bautista's hand?
  3. I've heard he's been throwing pretty well, FWIW. Not sure if that means he's actually throwing well or if he's just throwing better than anyone anticipated. Speaking of lefties, what's the sitrep on Johan Santana? I keep forgetting he's on the team, which is incredibly weird all things considered.
  4. Guys I suddenly feel like driving high. Anyone need a ride somewhere?
  5. AA to Pompey after he came out: "Look, kid, it's not only my decision on whether or not you play in Toronto this year, it's my decision on whether you leave Dunedin at all. Say you're fine. Say you didn't drink enough water. Do not make any more reporters ask me about injuries or depth. Okay? You're fine. Drink water and shut up. Charming mother, by the way. Peace."
  6. This will end any thought of Estrada even being a decent reliever, too. It's not like stretching out as a starter did him in, dude. "Being a starter" has nothing to do with anything here.
  7. RBI single for Travis. Awesome! Hope this guy can step it up and make the club.
  8. Just another minor update: A real miracle would be getting Stroman back this year, but I'm glad Saunders is coming along so well. Good for him, especially in the face of something that initially seemed so devastating. Excited to see him in this lineup.
  9. I was going to chime in that, if Smoak manages to play himself out of a role on the team I'd still be fine with a Barton-Valencia L-R platoon (with some days given to Edwin, because of course). Looks like everyone's got it covered, though!
  10. Contending chances definitely took a hit, but I think this is a bit extreme.
  11. I know, I know I shouldn't be surprised or annoyed because I follow these guys on Twitter, but I hate posts like this: Why would goals change? Because one guy goes down, tank the season? It's just such a go-nowhere statement that I wasted 5 seconds of my life reading it (and another 2 minutes posting about it). In other words, it was a tweet.
  12. I get what you're saying, dude. But depth is a problem, not unproven arms in this situation. Stop with that.
  13. Yeah, like maybe the entire Red Sox roster.
  14. You saw Stroman tearing his ACL in a bunting drill? AA could have nabbed Scherzer and he could have gone down in a fielding drill, dude. Depth is a problem, I agree. But this "relying on young guys" didn't cause a freak injury.
  15. Age had nothing to do with it, ScientificReason. He should have picked someone up, but this isn't a case of young arms backfiring dude.
  16. Oh yeah, that part I know. Poor dude wants to at least put up a career year or two so he can get the big bucks, and he sacrificed his future health to do it. I just meant if he's able to play, there must also be no point in easing him in since the broken parts don't exist anymore. He's no more a threat for injury than he would have been if SprinklerGate hadn't happened.
  17. Is this even necessary? Since the injured part of his knee was removed, is there any more a chance of injury than normal to say that Saunders would need to DH? Isn't it now just if he's strong enough to run, he's literally also strong enough to play?
  18. "Coming in from other area codes, it's LJ Hoes." f*** YOUUUUUU WILNER!!! EDIT, four minutes later...: "I'm really resisting making a Hoes joke." YOU DID ALREADY.
  19. But we'd complain way less if he were able to reliably drop down a bunt. Even if his only role ever as a hitter would be to bunt, he still can't even do that. There'd be way less hate if he had a solid base of minor fundamental abilities, but as it stands he's just a hope and a prayer during every PA.
  20. In defense of Yonge and Shep, if there were some reason that I only had access to one specific cuisine for the rest of my life I might legit choose Korean.
  21. This might be a stupid question but here goes: If some dusty old knuckleballer can't crack the major league team, would catching his knuckleball in Buffalo even benefit AJ? Wouldn't that just mean he's catching a lame knuckleball? When rookie catchers come up I understand they have enough of a time catching conventional big league pitchers vs the AAA-calibre talent they're used to dealing with.
  22. Detracts but doesn't cancel out. Donaldson's alleged throwing issues will detract from his overall value, but no reasonable argument can be made that he isn't worth the trade off. Reyes is not Donaldson in terms of value to the team, but the same thinking applies. It's frustrating to see Reyes come up lame on defense, but let's not throw the baby out with the bath water here by saying he's a net negative to the team.
  23. I was reading during the last couple of innings and had the game on mute. What did Goins do to earn half a page of ire?
  24. Old school guys rarely listen to up-and-comers. It's just ego. There are very few instances in the history of Earth where this is not the case. So: Not idiots, but still either ignorant or stubborn or both.
  25. So is there actually a rule about one foot in the batter's box or what?
