Some of you guys are just never happy, ffs.
There is zero obligation to pay either player any money more than MiLB $. If we're in the position we were last year in July and 1 of our 5 starters go down (in most years they will), it sure would be nice to have the option of choosing a guy within the org who has had proven success in the past to hop in and close that gap without needing to ship out prospects in a trade for an overpaid player. The signing of Viciedo would likely be to platoon with Pillar for the inevitable time when Saunders stubs his toe and is out another 4-6 weeks. If you have to pay some $ to fill the gaps to continuing winning, I'm all f***ing for it.
That's the cost of adding depth when your team doesn't have the prospects to fill the void.
