  1. Lots of swing and misses from Barns... to bad they are crushing anything he misses
  2. I love how he has to interject his own name for it... as if he f***ing invented it.
  3. Holy f*** you guys.... this is spring training. Grapefruit league statistics are pretty meaningless for a pitcher. Calls can be summed up like this: "lets see how your fastball down the pipe looks" "throw that new pitch you have been working on to the same batter 3 times in a row". Is Sanchez going to regress this year? Almost certainly. But can you glean much from this game? Nothing other than Sanchez isnt ready for April yet... just like the rest of the league.
  4. Looks like they have home plate set up where 3B should be.
  5. I guess I should have proof read that... What I meant to say is IF he works out it they wont be pressured into a number 5 role for the rest of the season. It doesnt seem very likely that he would get a start before May in the best of situations. What I dont want to see is Norris and Sanchez trying to over pitch their way into a SP role before they are ready. I dont mind them getting a few starts when we need them, but not 15+ straight games. With luck both will come into their own this season but I dont like the idea of rushing them. I have the same worries for Estrada: marginal pitcher, new team, could be decent but probably mediocre as a SP that is trying too hard.
  6. Dont mind this at all. Looks like this might solidify the starting 5 and take pressure off of Sanchez, Norris and Estrada. Also gives a better picture of what the bullpen might look like. If he doesnt work out as a starter by Juneish, then at least 1 of those 3 should be stretched out and a more obvious choice. And god forbid one of our starters should happen to step on a sprinkler head, well now we have more depth.
  7. Well I guess there is that whole bit about not wanting to give little kids an impression that cocaine is cool but yeah its not like PEDs are exactly safe.
  8. The real question there is: Who broke our magic crystal ball in 2012? At the time that looked like a sound trade. If I recall, we had need of pitching and an abundance of catching. No one thought Arancibia would be a bust... even the Rangers gambled on him after watching him swing and try to throw out runners from his knees. On top of that, at the time D'Arnaud was still on the rosterand Dickey had yet to be acquired. That trade is hard to blame on anybody.
  9. This is good news. Come July, FO will be in a better position to determine whether the signings are necessary or not. If we have a few spring injuries or a slump, I hope they are aggressively pursued.
  10. Probably 16. That looks like the 2003 world cup... a year earlier she was the youngest player to score in international competition. Too bad she had knee problems, could have been one of the greatest.
  11. In fairness to Ripkin, I probably would have f***ed with Zaun as well... guy annoys the s*** out of me.
  12. Hard to say without seeing a few spring games. Based on last season it should be Stroman but its going to be Dickey.
  13. Why are we still posting in the Around Baseball 2014 thread? In other news, I see the Tigers V-mart deal is turning out how everyone predicted it would.
  14. Hutch was hit and miss last year, its the <5 IP starts that im worried about taxing the bullpen. Im not a fan of Stroman's mechanics with his height, I think tommy john is inevitable. You got me on Travis being like Goins... kinda worst case scenario with an untested rookie.
  15. I dont think the bullpen is that solid: Cecil is probably going to be the closer but is untested as a closer. No way he and Loup can pitch every game. I dont have a lot of faith in Hutch and Estrada. And what if Dickey starts like he did at the beginning of last season? And can we assume that Buehrle is going to start out like he did last year before his stats normalized? Sanchize could be great... or he could struggle as a starter. Stroman is the only one I have faith in, although I think he is injury prone. We simply dont have the BP depth at this point or SP depending on which way you look at it. Projected WAR aside, it is only going to take an injury or two (or broken fingernail) before things get f***ed up. Im not going to assume anything at 2B. Travis could be another Goins and Goins could be Goins 2013. Izturis is coming off knee surgery and hasnt been good since 2011. Then there is Kawasaki and Tolleson. The Santiago acquisition just shows how desperate things are. At this point, all I see are lower-tier replacement level players. Im not as skeptical about the OF as some are. Lets just hope Saunders stays healthy and Pompey lives up to the hype.
  16. Man less than 3 weeks before pitchers and catchers report and still some holes... hope this month is better than last.
  17. Guess we will be seeing Snider on a regular basis. Going to be a real kick in the nuts if he starts costing us wins directly. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/12239715/baltimore-orioles-acquire-travis-snider-trade-pittsburgh-pirates
  18. It is a cheap answer to the OP's question: firing Gibbons buys AA another season. 2016 will be the real question mark. All it will take is for the new president and AA to bonk heads.
  19. Gibbons gets fired before AA does. Touch and go managers are job insurance for GMs.
  20. I like stroman, but I think he is an arm injury waiting to happen. So is Tanaka if he isn't broken already. Leaves me with a coin toss for Archer and Cobb... it came up tails.
  21. I remember thinking that I couldnt believe we traded away mcgriff. I was ten, and it was before the days of internet and seeing NL games was limited to the 5-6 expos games per year that actually aired on tv. A couple months later I remember seeing highlights from a spring training game and saw the "new guy" make a an amazing dive on a grounder between second and third, leap to his feet and throw to first for the out. I thought "nice play! but isnt this guy supposed to play second base?" Oh how little I f***ing knew...
  22. Estrada reminds me of a Brian Talllet type pick up. Lame starter, only real value is as long relief in a blowout with a BP short on rest.
  23. also holy f*** fatcow is back... that must have been the longest f***ing exam in human history.
  24. as per espn: http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/11966956/brett-lawrie-oakland-athletics-says-artificial-turf-blame-missed-toronto-blue-jays Not sure what failing to get out of the way of an inside pitch has to do with artificial turf. Also, didn't the oblique strain happen at Yankee stadium?
