  1. So I'm not being snarky or anything, this is a genuine question: did you watch Alomar play? I find it hard to to overrate him defensively. He was regarded as the top second baseman in the game, defensively, during his time in Toronto.
  2. Before he arrived in TO, they went 22 years without the playoffs. I'll take it. I grew up watching those great Jays teams, and the Joe Carter home run will be forever burned in my mind. If you lived through those years, and then the following 22 years of wandering through the Ash/Riccardi wilderness, you learn to appreciate any playoff appearance, regardless of it's outcome!
  3. Wow...looked at Robbie Alomar on that list; how does he have a negative defence WAR? That's ridiculous.
  4. Wow...big change of events. Thrown out at home, now a tying home run.
  5. By that logic you would be cheering against Toronto. Who cares about the manager, they really don't make that big of a difference. The players are the ones who decide who is going to win.
  6. That curve ball was a strike, but I love how Kershaw just came back and blew Zimmerman away.
  7. I know Beltre is great, but Donaldson has an OPS+ of 152 vs 128, WRC+ 155 vs 130 for Beltre, bWAR of 7.4 vs 6.4, and fWar 7.6 vs 6.2; perhaps you're underrating Donaldson? He is clearly the better player, although I understand that may be negated somewhat if he is seriously hurt right now.
  8. That's one of the worst articles I've read in a long time. Donaldson is a "slight" advantage over Beltre? I know how great a career Beltre has had, but at this point it's not close. Donaldson is a legit MVP calibre player, Beltre, not so much. And Andrus over Tulo? I'll take the average hitter with superior defence at a key position, over a slightly better bat (that's debatable) with inferior D.
  9. I was started to think they wouldn't win another game this season! Nice win, although it would be nice for the offence to show up. Here's hoping they win tomorrow and get back playing to their talent level.
  10. Probably would have been called a strike.
  11. Better than Simmons in the 5 hole for LAA...what a gross lineup for them!
  12. You're assuming that those free agents won't re-sign with their team, and will want to sign in TO. You should never assume that; also remember that a lot of teams (Yankees, in particular) are honing in on that year's FA crop and Toronto is not a destination a lot of players want to come to.
  13. I believe is still on the DL, as he was injured when he pitched in that one game?
  14. Call Dave Stewart, and see what he'd give up for a Cy Young caliber pitcher!
  15. I totally started reading the beginning of this thread, thinking it was new, and asking myself "why are we discussing Pompey vs. Pillar?" Thanks! Note to self: check the post date...
  16. I wonder if the stats back up his argument that there is less action in the games now because of "dominant" relief pitching? I remember reading an article somewhere a year or two ago stating that starting pitchers were pitching about the same amount of innings now then they were 30 years ago. So that would indicate that relief pitchers are pitching about the same amount of innings as well; have runs decreased in the last 3 innings of games now, compared to 30 years ago, or even 10?
  17. Seems excessive for what he is. I was hoping the Jays would improve at 1B this offseason, guess they are focusing on other priorities?
  18. Sign that man to a new contract already!
  19. Have to say I was on the fence, at best, about Sanchez before the year began, but he seems to be erasing all the doubt and has made some big strides this year. Getting the BB down has been huge for him; assuming his walk rate is not a mirage and he continues to develop his secondary pitches, he could be something special. As it stands now, he is a solid mid-rotation starter, and it's nice to see him continually get better.
  20. I had a dream last night where the Jays traded Stroman for Chris Sale. Maybe it's a sign of things to come? I mean if AA could land Donaldson then anything is possible, right?
  21. FYI, I received an email offer for 1/2 off MLB TV Premium. The sale is for anyone who is a free-game user. It's a pretty sweet deal.
  22. Works for David Price....
