  1. Interesting read, thanks for the link. I'm a little higher on some of the Jays (Dickey, Hutch and Pompey) but agree overall with the projects. I'm actually surprised they are ranked as high as they are, both in the fangraphs ranking and Schoenfield. I think the fangraphs page is over projecting Boston, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see...that's why they play the games. Here's hoping the Jays live up to the hype!
  2. I signed up for MLBtv for the first time this and had no blackout issues. I'm on Vancouver Island.
  3. So Steve Adams made a remark in his chat today (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/01/mlbtr-live-chat-112.html) about Dalton Pompey's makeup, saying "have heard less than glowing things about [it]". Anyone know what this is referring too? It's news to me.
  4. After reading that article, I hope Baltimore files tampering charges, and MLB slaps Rogers with a large fine, which will either teach Ed Rogers a lesson, or get Guy Lawrence to remove him from having anything to do with the Jays. Why would he go the Yankees for help, and not MLB? I think Rob Manfred would be able to give much better direction, and instruction on how to go about this whole process, than Randy Levine. I bet Levine suggested Duquette just so a mess like this would happen. Can Peter Angelos do anything without putting up a fight and making everything look bad?
  5. Zimmerman is switching to 1st, IIRC, due to shoulder issues. I'd offer up Sanchez, Pentecost, and any other prospect not named Norris/Pompey (in a 3/4 for one swap). But I wonder if it would be better just to wait one year and try and land the other Zimmerman (Jordan) as a FA. Hopefully by then we will have a President who won't enforce ridiculous 5 year contract length rules and we can be contenders for top end FA talent.
  6. I'd do that trade. It's huge upgrade at 2nd base and maybe you get some value out of Howard. If not, it's just the cost of acquiring one of the top 2B in the game. It would put the Jays over the top, IMHO (even if the bullpen needs work).
  7. Define "clean"...if it means no steroids then clearly many were clean, but if you include greenies then you could say no era has been clean from at least the 60's.
  8. Or he could hit .220 with a .280 OBP while striking out once every 3 at bats. I'm not worried about Rasmus or the the Rays.
  9. Unfortunately you can't put his injury aside; he is a major injury risk because of his elbow. Yes, Stroman may have something come up, but that is a given for any player. Tanaka's injury isn't just a possibility, it's reality. What happens if he totally blows out his elbow this year. Then it's TJ surgery, which is a minimum 12 month recovery. So let's say he pitches 1/2 the season, blows out his elbow, and doesn't come back until half way through 2016, which would likely be at less than 100%. That's 1.5 seasons lost in 3 years, and not a very good return on a very large investment. Maybe he survives the whole year without injuring his elbow, but at some point it's going to blow. I think Tanaka has a higher ceiling than Stroman, but for me, the injury risk is too high for him, and if I was picking someone from the above list to pitch in my rotation for the next 5 years, I'd pick Stroman because he is the safer bet, even if he isn't the better pitcher.
  10. Terrible list...more like 11 Jays who were involved in some historic event/year for the team. Don't waste your time reading this list.
  11. I'd pick Tanaka if not for his elbow. He's bound for Tommy John at some point, probably in the near future. Not being a homer here, but I think Stroman might be be the best pick.
  12. I use Hola all the time and it's great. You can watch Netflix U.S., U.K., even Denmark, Netherlands and Sweden, all have some different content. And The Office rules.
  13. You're probably right, but what scares me is that what do they have after Estrada and Norris? Their SP depth is not great and if they signed/traded for a solid SP, you could move Sanchez to the BP, and if/when injuries happen you have Estrada as your replacement. Plus, you could also call up Norris and even send Sanchez down to stretch him out for a couple of weeks (a la Stroman) and then bring him back up to start. I'd love to get Shields on a 3 year deal, but he will probably end up with a 5 year contract which I'd stay away from.
  14. I couldn't believe that when I read it. Sometimes I wonder why I waste my time reading his articles.
  15. Well that's the gamble of these extensions. When the deals were signed they were reasonable deals; Romero's deal was looking good for the first couple of years and then he just totally fell apart. There is no accounting for that. Morrow has his injury issues but when he signed it it looked like he was turning the corner into the potential ace everyone thought he could be. He was outstanding until the oblique injury sidelined him, and the rest is history. I don't hold those extensions against AA; he has made his mistakes for sure but those two deals just didn't work out. That's life in baseball, especially with pitchers.
  16. I've seen the Jays twice; once at the Ex circa 1984 and once in Ottawa (exhibition game) in 1993, iirc. Only been to Skydome once, for a Billy Graham crusade...still trying to make it there for the Jays, although the next time I see them will most likely be at Safeco, now that I'm on Vancouver Island.
  17. The fourth team is the Dodgers: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/12/jon-lester-rumors-wednesday-2.html
  18. Time will tell if this is a fleecing, but while some people are questioning why Donaldson is being dealt, so should they question why the Jays would offer up Lawrie. Obviously they Jays have some serious questions about him because he could turn into an all-star, and he's Canadian to boot. So for them to offer him up makes me wonder if he will ever put it together. Had the Jays done a deal like this last winter, I'd be much more upset about losing Lawrie, but after watching him for a few years now I don't think he will live up to the hype/potential ceiling. That's not to say he won't be a useful, or even a very good player, but I question whether he will ever reach all-star performance, which I didn't a year ago. Either way, super pumped to have Donaldson on the team; the middle of the order will be terrorizing to pitchers! Now bring back Melky and the lineup will have some depth...
  19. Well the Jays absolutely need to get a second basemen. I think they could content with Pompey/Pillar in CF but there is still a glaring hole at 2B with no internal options to fill it. I wonder if there is another trade to be had; the winter meetings should be exciting! Chase Utley, anyone?...
  20. Can't believe this trade, what an incredible trade! I like Lawrie but the injury concerns are pretty big, and swapping him for Donaldson while not giving up Sanchez/Norris or any of their other top prospects is sweet. Maybe Lawrie turns out to be a 4-5 WAR player, and Nolin and Graveman become mid rotation starters, but that's worth it for an MVP caliber player.
  21. Would love the Jays to add Lester, but I know that's not happening. I wonder if they are interested in Shields...would an offer of 4/85M land him? Scherzer is great but he is landing a 7 year 175M deal at least, which is clearly outside of the Jays "parameters".
  22. I think it's hard to say; although K rates are going up, bullpen use has changed a lot, and that's partly why K rate is higher. Starters don't log as many innings as they used to, and I wonder if anyone will log the innings needed to attain that many K.
  23. Have to think Hamels is next...
  24. This is shaping up to be an interesting offseason for the AL East. Boston is stocking up on offensive players, both through development and FA, while the Jays have been developing a lot of pitchers over the last few years. It seems that Boston is going to use it's surplus of position players to get pitchers, while the Jays will have to do the opposite. Time will tell what assets will be worth more, young pitchers or hitters, but I'm guessing the latter. Boston is taking a big risk though, as Ramirez is injury prone and on the wrong side of 30, while Sandoval doesn't have the body type that historically holds up well, so they could be sinking a lot of payroll in the near future into players not performing up to their salaries (Ortiz included, assuming he starts to decline at some point). Jays still need to do a lot of work though...
