Did anyone listen to Shapiro on ATL? If you haven't I would listen to it as he talks for 45 Min about all sorts of topics. One of the interesting things he said was when building a team ideally want a good mix of young players coming into the league, veterans in their prime and older veterans but not too much of all 3. And that is the mix you want when you have sustained contention.
Another interesting thing which I agree with is, small market clubs won't be able or at least have a very difficult time to field have a sustained winner and basically will have to have cycles in order to compete.
Well I'm assuming you would be getting back some serious minor league talent for all the guys you would be trading (JD, Osuna, Happ, Estrada, Liraino etc...)
Have 2 Tickets for the Pitch Talks event tonight. Bought tickets way back and forgot about it until I got the email today. I'm out of town so won't be able to go. Tickets are $35+HST each but just looking for $50 for the pair.
Mark Shapiro and Tim Raines will be there as well as a bunch of the media guys.
I think that's changing. KK and Inciarte just got extensions this past offseason and while some teams don't believe in defense as much a lot more teams do now than when Simmons was traded.
Can't see the Mets doing it although I'd love that a the Jays. There just really isn't a 2nd team to drive up the price to that level. Maybe if the Jays add in a 2nd piece
Who out there is going to give up that to get him?
CHC
LAD
WSH
HOU
CLE
SEA
All those teams already have 3rd baseman. The Giants don't have the prospects to get it done. Which only leaves the Red Sox and Mets. If BOS is up 5 Games in the division they don't need Donaldson really. Its pitching that gets a lot of value at the deadline, position players is more of an offseason trade.
Obviously Donaldson is an MVP talent and will command a lot but I just can't see getting a crazy package when there are so few teams with a need.
The Red Sox were the team other than the Mets but I can't see that happening. They already have Sandoval like you said and if they're already leading the division I can't see them trading the prospects it would take. Especially when a guy like Frazier will be on the market at a much lower cost.
Well I could see if someone says he might have issues with his range, or footwork or arm but a thick lower half really doesn't mean anything. Josh Donaldson has a thick lower half and has great range, same with Tulo.
Meant more it scams people into thinking its a great deal because they have the chance to win that much money. Everytime I go to a game I hear "Oh the 50-50 is up to 40K I better go get my ticket!" And then I hear about these people complain about $10 beer prices after throwing away $20 for 50-50 tickets.
