  1. Other interesting tidbits from that article is Lacava is likely to be named interim GM and Gibbons will return in 2016.
  2. I think its clear Shapiro is inheriting a much better team and much better organization than AA did. Its interesting because most times when a president/gm is hired they are starting from scratch but in this case the blue jays are a WS contender right now.
  3. Heyman with an article on the matter. Seems like Shapiro didn't even credit AA for the season they had. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/25359355/inside-baseball-anthopoulos-gutty-call-was-over-personality-clash-more-notes
  4. ugh gross. Goins is still a s***** hitter and if next season he doesn't hit (likely the case) then you are kind of screwed without any other options at SS. I think he's good depth as a backup middle infielder but you are playing with fire if you move Tulo. I would hope Shapiro realizes this and keeps Tulo.
  5. When he came in long relief it seemed he threw 93-94 so there may be something to that. But do you want to be yo-yoing him around like that after he proved to be so successful in the pen?
  6. I'd do 3/20 for him. He's been really really good for 3 consecutive years now.
  7. Also you would have to replace Tulo with a SS who is going to provide similar value and there really aren't any available.
  8. This is what I don't get. People give credit to Rogers for hiring Shapiro when their first 2 choices (Dan Duquette and Kenny Williams) would of left the franchise in a mess for years. They just got really lucky. Hopefully Shapiro does an excellent job and the Jays will be set up for a while.
  9. I don't really fault them for the AA thing. If you want you could say the initial 2 year contract offer was pretty poor but my guess is it was like the 1 year option. The entire DD and KW last year was awful though and the Ervin Santata thing in ST was just embarrassing. Not to mention the 2014 trade deadline. I think for those reasons we can say Rogers is a terrible owner. Sure they have a "top 10 payroll" but their revenue is also top 5 in the league so you can argue payroll should be even higher. Personally the payroll doesn't matter to me if its 140 or 145 but rather if it restricts the Jays from going out and adding a player, which has happened on multiple occasions it seems.
  10. You don't think the way they handled these situations is very poor? Thats a terrible way of handling business with your top executives. Most people in the industry scolded Rogers.
  11. lol Rogers trying to do some PR damage control. I think its pretty clear Shapiro is going to to be running things, surprised if Ed Rogers actually doesn't think that.
  12. Wonder if he will try to sign Travis to a team friendly extension. The shoulder injury was a little scary but if you got him Yan Gomes money the reward would be massive. Seems signing guys early in their careers is Shapiro's MO. Could do the same with Stroman but he would obviously be a lot more expensive.
  13. Yeah I signed up to get a pair of playoff tickets.
  14. Oh surplus value. You never said that lol. If Shapiro thought the FA market was 9-10M/win back in 2012 I'm sure Bautista's value would be much higher in his eyes.
  15. Wonder if Shapiro offers Estrada the QO. I would think its obvious Estrada won't be back but theres a strong chance Estrada would decline and then you get the draft pick. Little risky but a pretty good reward if he declines.
  16. By Premium pricing structure do you mean dynamic pricing? I really hope they keep the ticket exchange for STH because I'm unable to go to a lot of the dates.
  17. Bautista's value is a lot higher than 20 million? Or are you talking AAV on his next contract, cuz that would make sense.
  18. Rogers is a terrible owner, I think fans complain too much overall but when Rogers makes as much money as they do and fail to put money into the team when it's needed it doesn't do well for its reputation. Rogers just made over 100 million off the team his year and then to say payroll will remain the same and cite the U.S dollar is just going to make fans angry...
  19. Fans have every right to complain when ticket prices raise 10-25% and payroll stays the same. It's already been confirmed ticket prices are going up.
  20. Payroll shouldn't be a capped number but rather based on who they are able to get. When Rogers makes 100 million in profit fans won't be happy to see payroll remain the same. Rogers would still make money if the payroll was 175 million. Let's hope they put the money back into other resources like IFA and stadium improvements.
  21. I dunno hes a pretty good people person. I don't think you should fault the guy for being nice to everyone he encounters. If a fan came up to him and wanted to talk baseball when he was on a scouting trip he would talk to the guy. Not many of these massive ego GMs will do that. Masai for the Raptors is similar in that respect. While Lou for the Leafs is the opposite and one of the worst people in sports.
  22. First of all I thought Beeston was a terrible President but the way they handled it was a disaster. You don't conduct business with going behind a guys back calling other GMs (who you don't even have approval to talk to). You say something like "hey Paul, when you contract expires next year we are looking to bring someone new in so if you hear rumours of us talking to other people don't be alarmed etc.." Also I'm very hesitant to give any credit to Rogers because if they had their way Dan Duquette or Kenny Williams would be in charge and the Blue Jays franchise would be looking much much worse. Also hate the top 10 payroll BS. They make so much money that having a top 10 payroll doesn't mean anything. Based on their revenue the payroll should be closer to top 5. Do you think if the Red Sox had a top 8-10 payroll and didn't spend money when they had the chance to get a player, their fans would be happy?
  23. You think the way Rogers conducted business with Beeston and AA was good? It was embarrassing.
  24. Title probably wasn't the best. Terrible company who conducts business in a horrible way would be the similarities.
