  1. Well you wouldn't need to sign Bautista or EE in that case. Heyward is likely going to provide a good amount of surplus value on 20 Million as well. Regardless 2017 is going to be really tough to manage since there is a lot of money tied up.
  2. More like the upgrade over Bautista in RF defensively. Bautista could then move to 1B. So really Heyward is a huge upgrade on Smoak. Also gives them flexibility if Bautista and EE leave as FA in 2017.
  3. Well considering they lost 20-30 Million on the decision it was a mistake. Rogers would have lots of smart people who could have foretasted the dollar dropping.
  4. So apparently the Blue Jays don't hedge USD/CAD. Critical mistake as they likely cost themselves 15-20%.
  5. Yeah thats true. 2 Million would be great.
  6. For sure Marlins ownership has been bad, no doubt about it. At the same time, new stadiums usually guarantee sellouts for a few years which is not the case in Miami. Even before Loria though the Marlins never had great fan support. The Miami pro sports market is just bad in general. Tbh I don't blame them too much because there is so much other stuff to do besides pro sporting events. I'm not so sure about Rogers/Jays though. Rogers claimed money would be there if the jays were competitive in 2014 and that didn't happen. Then they decreased payroll at the beginning of last season and after record revenues this year payroll hasn't gone up at the same rate revenue has.
  7. It might be a factor but its not a significant one. For the most part fans here hate Rogers but it really doesn't have much of an effect on attendance. The Marlins have never really drawn fans.
  8. Apparently Jays are close to signing Petit. Had a terrible first half last year but was good in the 2nd half and has been the last few years. I'd be on board with a 1 year 3-4 Million deal. As long as he is facing mostly RHH he should be pretty good.
  9. How is Barney regarded at SS? He really hasn't had any significant playing time there. Is his arm good enough to be above average there?
  10. Maybe they expect Travis to be out longer? Likely league min. anyway. I would think Goins is the better fit to be the backup inf. since he's a LHH.
  11. Well he's pretty much the GM. Atkins and LaCave are just assistants. Atkins said that he will just be making recommendations to Shapiro about what to do and that Shapiro will be the one making the decisions.
  12. My guess is Barney is just here until Travis come back then is waived.
  13. nice move. Goins/Barney platoon until Travis gets back.
  14. His value is probably pretty low league wide considering the season he just had. I think he can be a number 3 starter, but I highly doubt his value is that right now.
  15. In other words, EE will be a FA at the end of the year lol.
  16. Would not be a fan of selling low on Hutch.
  17. Sounds like the meeting with EE went over well.
  18. If Heyward is only going to cost 180-190 Million Jays really should make a big push to sign him. I understand Shapiro isn't a fan of tying up a lot of resources in one player but he makes the team so much better. If you dump Revere he is only going to cost an extra 12 Million this season anyway. Even if RC isn't the best fit for his GB swing the benefit of being in a such RH heavy lineup will make up for it.
  19. My biggest takeaway from that article is MLB needs better managers.
  20. The lightning have a really good fan base? Top 10 in attendance the last 3 years. Miami is the much worse pro sports city. Marlins have a brand new stadium and barely got 20 000 fans last year. Panthers get no fans either. Heat are really the only team that gets good support and that probably has more to do with the Lebron effect than anything. Now that he is gone theres lots of empty seats even though games are technically "sold out"
  21. Yeah I probably shouldn't have included them. In 3 years I think they will be like the Cubs/Astros of this year.
  22. I really don't like what Beane is going. He says the market won't support a punt of 5 years but the Cubs and Astros have shown you can do a full rebuild in 3. Mediocrity doesn't keep the fans interested either which is exactly where the As are headed for the foreseeable future. I mean look at the Jays the last 20 years. Winning 80-84 games is the worst spot to be in. With the new scouting and IFA pool money being tied to a team's record the teams that have tanked and done full rebuilds look to be in the best position going forward. Astros, Cubs, even Phillies are in great positions because they did full rebuilds.
