They lost out on a guy they could've got on a cheaper contract for nothing.
I'm a fan of Shapiro's reputation and I will say I am impressed from what I hear from him in the interviews he does, but they've made some strange decisions this offseason. Now you don't really know what is out there unless you are the one making phone calls to GMs but they gave up a a lot of value in Hendriks for Chavez when they could have instead signed a swing man on the FA market. Or if they wanted to trade a reliever for a starter they should have just given up Sanchez/Osuna considering the value Kimbrel/Giles got in trades.
Its hindsight, but it just looks like they have misjudged the market and missed out on improving the club. Good thing is there is lots of time left in the offseason.
