  1. This is interesting. The Rays did an amazing job of this last year taking SP not named Archer out of the game early. Since most pitchers struggle the 3rd time through the order they would take their starters out after 5 Innings because they knew a replacement level reliever was better than a SP the 3rd time though the order. Now is that the reason why the relief market has gone up this much? Possibly.
  2. The reality is that unless payroll climbs over the 160-165 range its going to be difficult to build a championship contender for 2017. And so far, it looks like they haven't done a good job in maximizing wins in 2016. The goal has to be to win the division with the new wildcard format and right now the Red Sox look a decent amount better than the Blue Jays.
  3. The Jays FO seems understaffed. In an interview Shapiro mentioned that they won't look at extensions unti closer to ST after arb. and that they really just don't have the manpower to be thinking about extensions right now. This strategy seems fine but you do risk players prices increasing after FA.
  4. There is no "need" to deal him but if you get a great offer and it makes the team better you should make the trade. Although given how the bullpen looks right now, it would be much more difficult to trade him that at the start of the offseason.
  5. If they believe hes going to be a very good SP long term why not keep Hendriks and have him close then move Osuna to the rotation then? 5 years of Giles just got a massive haul from the Astros. If 5 years of Osuna could of gotten even close to that package I wouldn't have hesitated to pull the trigger.
  6. They lost out on a guy they could've got on a cheaper contract for nothing. I'm a fan of Shapiro's reputation and I will say I am impressed from what I hear from him in the interviews he does, but they've made some strange decisions this offseason. Now you don't really know what is out there unless you are the one making phone calls to GMs but they gave up a a lot of value in Hendriks for Chavez when they could have instead signed a swing man on the FA market. Or if they wanted to trade a reliever for a starter they should have just given up Sanchez/Osuna considering the value Kimbrel/Giles got in trades. Its hindsight, but it just looks like they have misjudged the market and missed out on improving the club. Good thing is there is lots of time left in the offseason.
  7. I read that they plan to use him at 2nd. I'm sure he hates switching positions all the time. If I was Chicago I'd just leave him at 3rd.
  8. Hutch was fairly good in the first half but had terrible babip luck. Possible he lost his confidence towards the end of the season. He was god awful in September. 3.71 FIP and 3.93 xFIP in the 1st half. Consistency is definitely an issue with him though and he struggles the 3rd time through the order more than the average IIRC.
  9. Doubt it. They seem to look at ERA and not value peripheral stats for pitchers as evidenced by the Miller trade. Stewart likely thinks Miller is a 3 or 4 Win upgrade over Hutch when the reality is they are quite similar pitchers.
  10. dammit lol. I've been trying to catch myself doing that.
  11. Yeah for sure. I think this team is really good. Obviously it will all depend on Lowry's health down the stretch.
  12. Well if you had to pick you'd rather beat the good teams than the other way around I guess? Crazy how much parity is in the Eastern Conference right now.
  13. Yeah that looks really bad right now if Osuna could have got a similar package.
  14. Lmao Mets gave Asdrubal Cabrera 18.5 Million
  15. Doesn't really fit considering Donaldson and Travis are here. Also we didn't have the pitching prospects to make a deal.
  16. Yeah I would of moved Osuna for that package in a heartbeat.
  17. So Lawrie for 1 minor league reliever and an A ball starter who looks interesting but extremely far away. Bean has looked awful this last year.
  18. Considering how much money closers get in arb. I wonder if the Jays want to move Osuna out from the closer's role. Maybe have Cecil close this year? Hell, given what Giles just got the Phillies the Jays should of just traded Osuna instead of Hendriks.
  19. Lawrie traded!
  20. Apparently he is asking for 8/200 lol. Not good news for Jays in EE and JB talks.
  21. Yeah thats true. I wondered that yesterday when the Dbacks made that terrible trade, if AA would of found a way to make a trade with them first since he is active with every GM.
  22. I wonder if Shapiro makes the Donaldson trade last year. I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to hold on Lawrie and co. given his comments about roster construction.
  23. No chance the league gives them any considering they are a top revenue market now. Even with the exchange they make more money than most teams.
