  1. Another incredible game by Gibby. Pushes all the right buttons and gets a great win while resting key players who can come out in full force tomorrow. Fantastic job.
  2. Not sure why there's AA hate on this. I would be far more excited over a great starter then a great closer. Our rotation has been a bigger problem then the BP. Ideal world we get both, but an impact starter will make a bigger difference to the team.
  3. I'm sure FG loved us because of our potent offense (which has outperformed expectations) and they expected much more out of our starters. The starters have been worse then the relievers (14th vs 28th), so unless we're gonna place blame on Gibby for the way our starters have performed and give him no credit for getting so much production from our offense, what fangraphs predicted to what reality has been really isn't on him.
  4. That's fair. Navarro is such a messy situation because of the fact that a) we can't just let him sit on his ass and get no playing time and I'm sure there's the thought of wanting to keep some sort of value in him in case of a trade (which again appears to be a ball dropped by AA in the offseason). Very frustrating
  5. It's nice to have some reason enter this thread. And let's not forget that Cash' BP management has been highly criticized in terms of overworking guys or keeping them in too long. Managing isn't as easy as looking at fangraphs and saying "hey this guy's WAR is 0.1 better than this guy's, so he's getting the start today". People bitch when Navarro starts over Martin yet forget that the most games Martin has played in over the past 5 years is 133 (and surely those weren't all him starting behind the plate). Not to mention that many decisions are influenced because a certain player is banged up or not feeling 100%. It happens all the time in baseball - a player isn't declared unavailable but he's not quite right so he doesn't get the start or the call from the BP. I can find in game decisions by Gibby to criticize or that I don't agree with, but I could find a lot more to bitch about with many other managers around the league.
  6. This may have been posted already, but it makes me laugh: In a 2003 Sports Illustrated survey of 550 active major league players, Bucknor was voted as the worst umpire in MLB, with 20.7% of the vote.[2] In an updated 2006 SI survey, Bucknor was again voted MLB's worst umpire, with 21% of the players' votes.[3] In a 2010 ESPN survey of 100 active players taken after Jim Joyce's blown call that cost Armando Galarraga a perfect game, Bucknor was again named the worst umpire in baseball (while Joyce was named the best)
  7. I don't tend to follow the message board soap operas, but this post really strikes me as a fabulous use of time.
  8. Fully agree with this.
  9. To gamble on a guy coming back from a horrendous start to the year, a bad 2014 and coming off an injury just wouldn't make sense. We are trying to make an impact move that adds wins to our season, not one that kinda maybe will if everything goes right.
  10. When did anyone compare Masterson to Copeland? No one should want either of them as a permanent piece of our rotation if the playoffs are the end goal.
  11. I don't think you're gonna find anyone arguing that. At least I hope not. If we think there's logic in getting him we may as well just trade for the entire starting staff of the Red Sox.
  12. Please tell me this is a joke. He has been terrible this year no matter how you cut it. You don't bring in a guy who has been bad for a year and a half in order to take your team to the next level.
  13. I'm sure someone will, but he's been drafting a response for the past hour and a half.
  14. The chart about BP times and gate openings didn't copy properly - see it here: http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/tor/fan_forum/game_experience.jsp
  15. The batting practice schedule is as follows. Please note it is not uncommon for either the Blue Jays or that day's visiting team to cancel batting practice. Game Time Blue Jays BP/Infield Gates Open Visitors BP/Infield 12:37 p.m. 10:10 a.m. - 11:10 a.m. 11:00 a.m. 11:10 a.m. - 12:05 a.m. 1:07 p.m. 10:40 a.m. - 11:40 a.m. 11:00 a.m. 11:40 a.m. - 12:35 p.m. 4:07 p.m. 1:40 p.m. - 2:40 p.m. 2:00 p.m. 2:40 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. 7:07 p.m. 4:20 p.m. - 5:40 p.m. 5:30 p.m. 5:40 p.m. - 6:35 p.m. Note: These times are subject to change without notice. Also, please be aware that it is fairly common for Batting Practice not to be held prior to home games on Saturdays. If you're moving to a seat in the same section it shouldn't be an issue. Switching sections depends on the usher who is working that area - some are sticklers and some don't care. It's open well before gametime. AM590. Not sure about pregrame timing. I highly doubt you'll have an issue unless it's obscenely large.. Enjoy the games
  16. Outside of Paps rubbing some people the wrong way, I don't see why people would say "no thanks" without even knowing what it would cost. He would make us better and address a key weakness of our team. I wouldn't get a Papelbon jersey but I would be fired up if we got him.
  17. Per MLBTR - move if needed: By Steve Adams [June 10, 2015 at 5:57pm CDT] The Phillies “are ready” to trade Jonathan Papelbon and have had recent discussions with the Cubs and Blue Jays regarding the five-time All-Star, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. However, there’s currently nothing close, and talks between the Phillies and both of those teams are at an impasse, per Rosenthal. The Phillies are willing to pay a significant portion of Papelbon’s contract if it means receiving better prospects, and since speaking with the Blue Jays last week, they’ve increased their scouting of Toronto’s minor league affiliates. The Blue Jays are on Papelbon’s no-trade list, though Papelbon said months ago that he would have interest in pitching for Toronto. The Jays are currently one game above .500 and just three games back in the AL East, despite the fact that they’ve endured bullpen struggles nearly all season. As for the Cubs, their front office knows Papelbon well. Both president Theo Epstein and GM Jed Hoyer worked for the Red Sox when Papelbon was drafted, and each has a respect for his work ethic despite his somewhat abrasive personality. The Cubs aren’t committed to Hector Rondon as the team’s closer and are trying to add multiple late-inning alternatives, hence their recent signing of Rafael Soriano. Rosenthal hears that the Phillies prefer to deal with the Blue Jays as opposed to the Cubs. I’d imagine that moving Papelbon to Toronto could require the Phils to eat more cash, as Toronto has more budgetary constraints. They’re said to have between $5MM and $8MM to make in-season additions, though Papelbon is earning $13MM this season, of which $8.3MM remains. It seems unlikely that the Blue Jays would want to place all their eggs in this one basket by spending all of the money they have left on Papelbon’s salary. Additionally, Papelbon’s $13MM vesting option has to be a consideration, as if he were inserted into the ninth inning in Toronto, he’d almost certainly reach the 48 games finished needed to lock in that final year.
  18. Nice nats!!!
  19. What a terrible system used by MLB. They deserve this I guess, but I feel bad for the deserving players
  20. Do the Royals actually have a big fanbase? I would think they don't......hence why I was wondering if they had some social media campaign....kinda like we did for Delabar to get him in that one year. This voting is nuts
  21. Was there some sort of social media campaign? I don't understand how a team with a relatively small fanbase is getting so many votes especially in the positions where they clearly shouldn't be. JD has outperformed MM by a good margin yet trails by almost 2 million votes. And it's Missouri vs. Canada when it comes to a fanbase. Me confused.
  22. The Cubs have signed veteran reliever Rafael Soriano to a minor league deal, adding another option to the team’s late-inning mix. He’ll earn the pro-rated portion of a $4.1MM base salary and can add up to $4MM in incentives (based upon games finished and appearances).
  23. Just enjoy the ride. There's such a thing as going on a hot streak because a player is locked in, I refuse to credit CC's success to just luck. Instead of looking for advanced metrics to argue why he isn't good, why not just enjoy the fact that he's been helping the team offensively in a big way.
  24. Let's go angels!!!
