"Quite frankly I don't understand WAR in general terms and I think that as you point out, you just have to see a player for a season and the contributions he makes, like Donaldson, to measure his value. I sometimes use the WAR numbers but I don't value them as highly as others."
It's no mystery this guy isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but to blatantly admit you don't understand one of the most important analytic tools in the game when it's your job to cover the sport is sad. There are certainly limitations and flaws with WAR, but it certainly has tremendous value.
