  1. The Jays are 0.5 game out of the 2nd Wild Card, tied with 3 teams. This is like the worst spot to be in. Not good enough to feel confident that they are a playoff team, but not bad enough to start trading pieces away for next season. The team better play really well or s*** the bed from now until July 31st to give us a better idea of what they are, good or bad. I've seen enough 82-85 win teams to not be impressed by them. At least in the JPR years they were 82-85 win teams with 2 super teams ahead of them and only one WC. Doing it now means nothing.
  2. Pretty naive to think an umpire will get in trouble for anything they do. They are more bullet proof than any official in any other sport. With that said, arguing with umps about the strike zone is tired as hell. You know these guys are power hungry and can control outcomes of games, so why rile them up? Maybe Bautista is rubbing off on everyone. It's ridiculous. Yes, the umps suck. They always have, and they always will. Just have to play through it. That's why it's laughable when MLB tries trivial things to "make the game better" (shorter time between pitches, etc), but the one thing that can improve the game (robo umps) will never be considered.
  3. Umpires gonna umpire. Baseball keeps trying to figure out ways to improve the game but ignore the one thing that could actually do it.
  4. Agreed. They are in a spot where they could win a WC spot or get overtaken, and neither scenario would be surprising. If they end 2016 without a playoff berth and only get picks for JB, EE, and now I guess Saunders, then that would be pretty disappointing.
  5. Damn, I wish AA traded for Carrasco last trade deadline instead of Price and Tulo. Wonder what the price actually was, if he was available at all.
  6. "A s*** ton of value"? A 200 IP league average starter does have value, but he's attached to a back-up catcher that shouldn't be in the Majors and being average does not equate to a "s*** ton" of value. If he was 2012 RA, then Thole could be here and I wouldn't give two shits, but if you're a 4.00 ERA/210 IP starter, then f***, that's average at best.
  7. Trading Dickey for a reliever and moving Chavez to the rotation should have been done yesterday. Thole is a below replacement player, and Dickey is probably average at best. It's not worth it. If the Dickster didn't come with a carry on s***** catcher, that would be acceptable, but he's not good enough to carry a guy who will be out of baseball the moment Dickey retires.
  8. Why are people expecting the Orioles to regress? Have we not seen this story before (2012 and 2014)? I think their offense and pen carries their s*** starting pitching and then they'll trade for help at the deadline. I think they got the East. Jays win the 1st WC, beat the Royals in the WC game, advance to beat the Rangers in the ALDS, and then beat the O's in the ALCS to advance to the World Series. Beat all our least favorite teams in one shot. It's destiny.
  9. Bichette and Biggio off to good starts. Not so much for Woodman.
  10. Atkins has always said this, while Shapiro has mentioned an innings limit (I think), and Gibbons (I can only imagine speaking on behalf of the org) said Sanchez moving to the pen will happen. They are all over the place. Just don't mention anything and let whatever happens happen. If he shows signs of fatigue and is breaking down towards August or so, then make the move. No need to keep mentioning it.
  11. Baltimore (ugh) wins the division, and either Toronto or Boston gets the 1st WC. The team that doesn't misses the playoffs entirely (either the Royals or Astros get the other WC spot). The Orioles are their "everything goes right every two years" bull s*** can stick it.
  12. Orioles are winning the division. Waiting for them to regress in 2012 and 2014 failed miserably so I'm not going down that road again.
  13. That's my point. The Jays haven't been able to play well because of much of their expected star performers simply not performing, despite surprises from others (Sanchez, Carrera, Barney). A good team probably overcomes that, but the Jays have been dictionary definition of mediocre because of it. If they are still hovering around this mark in a month, then for god sakes start selling pieces off. I've seen enough 80-85 win seasons to last me a life time. I don't want to see another.
  14. Tulo, Bautista, and Martin have played well below expectations. Same with Stroman. The pen has been hurt by injuries to Cecil and decline from Storen. The fact that they are in a WC spot right now is remarkable. Whether we can expect a real run remains to be seen. The talent is there but the performance by a few key guys that needed to play like stars has not.
  15. Keep him in until he reaches 100 pitches, regardless of how he looks. /John Gibbons.
  16. The Donaldson trade was a god damned heist. I hate AA, but he destroyed Beane on that one. Hindsight makes it look even better but it was a killing even at the time. Unless Barreto becomes a HOF, I'm not sweating that.
  17. Yes. Answer to this thread title is Yes.
  18. Gallardo is so annoying. He's so trash but it seems the Jays haven't been able to score much off him since last season despite having so many chances.
  19. Give Saunders the qualifying offer. So many options after that (extend him ala Estrada, he accepts, or he declines and you get a pick). Doing anything now when he's at the absolute height of his value would be foolish. The Jays window to win is 2016. Saunders is having a career year in 2016. Enjoy it and hope it leads to the promised land. Worry about 2017-beyond after the season, because there are way too many red flags with him to get tied down right now.
  20. I know Osuna hasn't pitched in a few days but man I hope he's not used tonight now that they've added some runs.
  21. Yeah, with a competent manager, I could see Sanchez's transition to the pen to end the year being sensible to keep his innings down, but competent and John Gibbons (especially bullpen management) don't go together. Sanchez will be throwing 3 days in a row, or 4 out of 5 days, late in the year at some point.
  22. Redneck Cito's use of Osuna has definitely bordered on terrible. Not surprised he's hurting, but hopefully nothing a few days off can't fix.
  23. I like Grilli just for his over the top celebrations to end games. You can tell he's really happy to be with the Jays.
  24. Saunders might be worth a qualifying offer at the rate he's going. Big break for the Jays if that happens.
  25. Getting the playoff drought out of the way last season has at least made me less angry when the Jays lose. The window is nearly closed on the Bautista years, but I've accepted it and am taking whatever I get from this season at is comes. The draft and development of prospects definitely seems more appealing now that I'm seeing how mediocre the big league team is.
