  1. A split would be fine, but only way to win the season series tiebreaker is to win 3 of 4. Hopefully the Tigers recent struggles carry over for another weekend.
  2. Jays officially win the season series against the Yankees. Huge series win.
  3. The replay room preferring the Jays over the Yankees is crazy to me.
  4. Watching the game on Prime so getting the Yankees feed. Kay is going off on the Yankees defense.
  5. I get not wanting to get the go ahead run at the plate with Bassitt having gopher-itis tonight but setting up the double play and not facing right handed Barry Bonds seems like a much better scenario to me.
  6. Yeah I've been on the "get Sandy" bandwagon as well, he just fits perfectly with upside to match, but if the Marlins are holding out for a 2022 Sandy trade return, then it becomes less appealing. Curious to see what it would take to get him.
  7. Last time the Jays faced Fried (Canada Day), Barger was not in the starting lineup. I really don't think the Jays should be valuing Straw and Jimenez against LHP over Barger. but that seems to be where they are going. Hopefully he is in the lineup tonight. Of course Clement has a 53 wRC+ against RHP this season yet will challenge Cal Ripken's consecutive games played record at this rate, so splits only matter depending on the player in question, I guess.
  8. Yeah it was the worst contract in baseball as soon as they put pen to paper, and there's no way to "Devers" the contract later since he has a full NTC. He's going to be a team mascot putting up negative WAR's for the last 5-7 years of the deal as he chases 3000 hits, unfortunately. Rogers saw the last place finish in 2024 and did not see this 2025 season turning out the way it has (no one did), so they panicked. If the Jays win a ring over the life of Vlad's deal, and Vlad was a decent part of it, then we'll probably live with it. Let's hope.
  9. https://x.com/hgomez27/status/1947853833582817739
  10. Pitching him in the first game back from the break with a 4-0 lead was unnecessary, yes. The other times were fine, but if Schneider thinks 4 runs requires his closer, then the Jays need at least 2-3 guys in the pen that he would be comfortable using in the 9th inning because that's not sustainable.
  11. Might need to overpay in a trade for a "closer" just so Hoffman doesn't have to pitch 4 times in 5 days as often as he does. I can't imagine that's good for any reliever, much less doing it 3-4 times in a season (and counting).
  12. Yeah I don’t see the Rangers selling given where they are in the standings. Obviously the Brewers aren’t selling either so Peralta is not an option (I didn’t think he ever was one but his name was thrown around). If the Jays do add a SP, then I think it will be someone closer in quality to what they already have. The clear upgrade may not be available.
  13. The Jays could win the East and still play in the WC round, so finishing better than the Astros and/or Tigers is going to be very important as well. Winning at least 1 of the next 2 against the Yanks and then taking 3/4 from the Tigers to win the season series against them as well would be nice (though asking a lot).
  14. Great to get this first game. Just win one of the next 2 to win the season series/hold the tiebreaker.
  15. Dominguez's statcast page is pretty enticing. Looks like he added a splitter this season which has helped him get more whiff/chase. Could definitely see the Jays trading for him, assuming it's a reasonable deal.
  16. Would let Gausman try for 8 innings given the pitch count but I doubt Schneider will allow that with the top of the order up.
  17. Man I know Clement has hit LHP well this season but he shouldn't be a lead off hitter.
  18. I like how Barger sits against lefties but Clement who has a 50 wRC+ against righties plays everyday.
  19. Counting on Manoah the rest of the way seems really unwise. Maybe he surprises us but his last season in the bigs with any sample size was objectively awful by every metric. He'd have to dominate these rehab assignments for me to feel even a little bit comfortable. The Jays should add a starter, but Lauer has been so good that getting anything short of an ace to bump him out of the rotation might not be that helpful. Unless the plan is to go with a 6 man rotation (similar to 2016 after acquiring Liriano), which given how much they prioritize extra rest for the geezers in the rotation might be what they have in mind. Not like they use that last guy in the pen spot (currently owned by Pina) often enough to worry about losing it. In that case they could add another mid rotation option and be fine. Who they would start in a hypothetical game 1 playoff game in that scenario is the bigger question.
  20. Jays own the tiebreaker so if they win 2 more games against the Yankees the rest of the season (they play 6 more times), then they win the season series. A Yankees sweep would tie the season series 5-5, so really just avoid that and the Jays would still be in a good spot. Obviously winning the series is the best outcome.
  21. Pirates have a cheap owner so $800k or whatever the min salary is now for an elite player with 4 years of control left doesn’t resemble a player that they’d want to move. Two years from now, possibly, but not now. They’ll probably looking to dump Hayes and Reynolds more than anything.
  22. I really hope the Jays add multiple relievers and cut bait on Green. He's already sunk cost. Just move on and let him give up dingers for another team down the stretch.
  23. I thought it was interesting that Schneider was playing Clase and others over Roden prior to Roden's most recent demotion. The club may have soured on him a bit. Wouldn't shock me at all if he's moved, especially with Schreck's emergence in AAA.
