  1. The Angels want that 2nd wild card.
  2. Damn I wish Buehrle was a lot younger when we acquired him and we kept him for a while. I miss that guy.
  3. CC is not picking the Jays over the Yankees or Angels, but he would be a good signing if it happened.
  4. Much like Fowler last year, Cain can get similar or better offers elsewhere and keep playing CF, which I’m sure he’d prefer playing. If they sign him (highly unlikely as it is) then they would have to trade Pillar. Playing him in left or right would be awful.
  5. Have the Jays under Atkins ever made a move that was discussed by the media beforehand? I can’t think of one. The Jays next move will be for a player none of us have talked about or heard a peep about from the media.
  6. Yep. Pillar is the type you cut bait on when he gets paid real money. Can’t hit, and fielding will only get worse. Teams usually don’t pay a high premium for outfield defence in trades either, especially if that’s the only skill a player has. The Jays won't get much for Pillar, and certainly a lot less if they wait for him to get more expensive.
  7. I swear, when Profar goes Jean Segura on the league next season, while Pillar is frustrating the hell out of all of us, I'm bumping this thread. (or if Profar still sucks, I'll claim I was hacked).
  8. Agreed, but I didn't want to look at the Rangers minor league system to think of any attachments. Add some bits and pieces to the deal from their end.
  9. Sign Cain for 4/80 and then trade Pillar for Profar. Gives Cain the CF spot he probably wants from any team he signs with, gives the Jays another infielder which they are looking for, and they'll still have enough to overpay someone like Sabathia to fill the rotation. I don't expect any of the above to happen, but just throwing some s*** out there.
  10. I don’t think people realize how lucky the Jays are with their fanbase. It’s a young, diverse, and energetic fanbase in a sport whose fanbase is mainly old white guys. There has to be some consideration taken to trying to keep that fanbase from disengaging, even if it’s competing for a wild card spot.
  11. Burch Smith isn't going to last to where the Jays pick, is he? He would be a great pick.
  12. Yeah I see the team treading water for a few years, with short term vets holding down positions until prospects are ready to take over. Maybe they luck into a wild card spot over the span, but it's going to be more of an organic rebuild.
  13. Not sure about their rotation even with Ohtani, but yeah, they are probably the favorites in that crowded 2nd wild card race at this point. Still a ways to go in the off season though. If Ohtani isn't an ace, then they might have some problems. They have a ton of injury concerns in the rotation.
  14. Nunez could be a volatile player coming off his injury, and he's not great defensively anywhere, but the options are pretty limited. Travis and Tulo are likely going to miss a lot of time, and it wouldn't shock me if both are not ready by opening day just based on the injuries they had, so the Jays need to find an infielder capable of playing everyday. Nunez makes sense. Harrison makes sense. Nunez will just cost money so he's less risky in that sense.
  15. Yep. The Jays had agreed to a trade for Kinsler, and traded Sergio Santos for Brett Anderson, but both deals fell through. Considering Kinsler put up WAR's of 5.2, 4.1, 5.7, and 2.4 immediately after nixing a trade to the Jays, he can f*** off for all I care.
  16. Nunez on a two year deal would work. We know damn well Travis won't play a full season, maybe not even a half season, so between 2B/SS/3B, Nunez will pretty much get a full season's worth of plate appearances. I'd prefer going younger, but having already taken a chance on Diaz, taking another chance on another infielder would be too much uncertainty. Nunez would at least provide some certainty in terms of performance.
  17. Yeah, the Jays value as an org has climbed significantly since Shapiro took over. His job is not just baseball related moves, but also for the franchise as a whole. If he wants to invest in new facilities and renovations and things like that, then it's a lot easier to get the funds when the team is good and the money is rolling in. I think if the Jays were the Indians, they would already be in a rebuilding phase by now, but he has to think and act differently in this role, for better or worse.
  18. Yeah i agree. Rebuilding after 2016 would have been insane. They went to back to back ALCS's, were selling out every game, having insanely high tv numbers, etc. Shapiro is looking at baseball ops but also has to look at things from an ownership perspective as well. If Donaldson was a free agent after 2016, then that would have been different, but they had two years of control left on him. Trying to piece together a playoff team in 2017 was the right call. Whether it's the right call in 2018 is another story. As long as they keep emphasizing building up the farm system, I'm ok with whichever direction they go in.
  19. Yeah, if he's not going to Miami, then the Jays might be able to get him for cheap now.
  20. Teams would kill to have Toronto's fan base. Young, loud, passionate, and have the potential to sellout every game. Not to mention traveling to other parks and being louder than the opposing team's fans. In a sport that needs young eyeballs, the Jays are a pretty enviable situation. Killing that off after two straight ALCS appearances would have been pretty difficult to do. Thankfully we have a front office that understood that but also understood that they couldn't afford to sell off any more prospects, so they have tried to blend competing and rebuilding at the same time. I guess more of the same expected in 2018.
  21. I was Gibby's harshest critic in 2015 (managed a 100 win team into needing a miracle run just to reach 90), but since the front office change, he has definitely reduced the number of derpy moments and managed about as well as he could with the roster he was given. As long as he maintains a good relationship with the players and management, it wouldn't surprise me if ends up being to the Jays what Hurdle is to the Pirates. A guy who adapted to the front office and had a long tenure because of it.
  22. That seems like Gibby's self deprecating sense of humor. Doubt it means anything beyond that.
