  1. The QO isn’t happening. It might be better than what the Jays end up getting for him, but it’s not happening. Shatkins wants no part of it and there’s probably stuff we don’t know about happening behind the scenes (hence JDs cryptic quote).
  2. JD was a victim of being a late bloomer in the post ped era. His free agent contract was always going to be an albatross for whoever signed him. Unfortunately for him he got hurt before he could cash out.
  3. I don’t want him, just spitballing realistic ideas. chances are Shatkins doesn’t want to give Jd the QO (hence the rush to trade him), and he’s a 2nd round/comp pick equivalent that the Indians may not find mind trading to win a WS this year. He may in fact suck but we are not getting a top 10 prospect here. See if the high performance can fix him.
  4. How about JD for Quentin Holmes (Cle)? He was a pick in the 60’s in 2017 and a massive lottery ticket.
  5. At this rate there’s a pretty good chance he accepts the QO. For whatever reason Shatkins doesn’t want that, so here we are. I’d like to know the reasoning as well. We might see JD moved for pennies to avoid the optics of not offering him the QO after the season, which would be a terrible outcome anyway you slice it.
  6. JD with a HR in the 1st inning. Dammit give us some good news and a trade by Friday.
  7. Just ate chicken with a side of chicken for dinner. Chicken for dessert.
  8. I doubt Flaherty was on the table for JD. Maybe Alcantara, but the Cardinals seemed pretty adament about not trading six years of control for one. That FG writer who suggested JD for Carpenter and Gyorko was pretty bang on in hindsight. We wouldn’t have traded for Solarte in that scenario, and Carp has been a beast this year. I hated that idea at the time (wanted prospects for JD) but would have worked better for the Jays. Could have traded Carp for a good haul.
  9. If they don’t want to qualify him it’s either because they think his injury has destroyed him or because the budget is going to shrink and they want to allocate resources for more long term assets. Maybe a little of both. Then of course there’s the whole Vlad at 3b issue. Plus they liked Drury enough to trade their most desirable trade asset for him so I’m sure they want to give him 3b reps as well. Losing JD for nothing (like, nothing in the literal sense) is happening folks. Keeping a player too long 101.
  10. There will likely be some trades, but based on the roster now, I’d go with: CA Jansen 1B Smoak 2B LGJ SS Tulo 3B Drury LF McKinney/Hernandez CF Pillar RF Grichuk DH Morales BN Martin BN Diaz BN Pompey (out of options) BN optionable infielder Solarte bought out, Travis either sent to minors or moved, and one of McKinney/Hernandez starting in AAA. AAA to start the year: McGuire, Vlad, Bichette, Biggio, Tellez (CA, 3b-1B) and Smith, Alford, and McKinney/Hernandez in the outfield.
  11. He looks like a 2 war SS, which is pretty good since he has four years of control left. He could be a good piece to have around even in the Vlad years. Don’t think he’s a long term SS but his D has been better than advterised so as long as he’s an average hitter he could used there until Bo is ready. He’s better than Tulo either way.
  12. Morales is basically hitting now like we hoped he would when we signed him. Still overpaid but not useless. If this is Shatkins' worst signing, then yeah, we alright.
  13. Morales up to a 115 wRC+ after that dinger. Edwin at 108. Sportsnet.ca comments in shambles.
  14. I wouldn't mind playing him everyday when the team is trash, but he's not a piece on the 2020-25 Vlad teams. Unless his bat really takes off. His stat cast numbers seem to be good so maybe there is some upside. The D really hurts him though.
  15. First we thought McKinney was black, now we miscast him as scrappy due to his whiteness despite essentially having a power hitter's profile. Poor guy can't latch onto any stereotype.
  16. Long man out of the pen or AAA depth.
  17. I'd trade Rowdy as well if he has any value. I just want Hernandez to be at DH since his D is awful but his statcast numbers are very good so he might have a bit more upside with the bat. Ideally we keep one of Morales or Smoak and dump the other. Since Smoak would in theory have more value, then he makes more sense to trade while Morales can finish out the final year of his deal here and we can move on after 2019.
  18. If the Jays aren't going to dump Morales next year then trade Smoak now, move Kendrys to 1B, and either play Tellez (not a fan of him but whatever) or put Hernandez there.
  19. Player A: 108 wRC+, 0.4 WAR, 10.4 BB%, 22.2 K%, 442 PA Player B: 107 wRC+, 0.4 WAR, 11.1 BB%, 19.9 K%, 377 PA A is Edwin, B is Morales. This is the world we live in on August 21.
  20. Well more than half of his walks after the trade were in one start, so he hasn't been too bad. Last two outings have been encouraging at least. Shame he was limited to 3 innings because of Competitive Walks.
  21. Said it before, Samad is my sleeper prospect. He is going to be top 10 in the Jays system by next year. Young is having a better season than I thought as well and just turned 21.
  22. Article on the Score quoting Davidi is saying Jays may not give the qualifying offer to JD. Is payroll going to hit JP Ricciardi levels in 2019? Why the hell wouldn’t they give him the QO? Unless he’s turned into 2013 Josh Johnson (FUBAR) that makes no sense.
  23. Osuna was moved because he allegedly beat up a woman and there were legal (and SJW) reasons for it. The Jays didn't sell low because they felt like it. They did it for reasons beyond their control. If JD was healthy this season we wouldn't be having this conversation. They tried to contend for a WC spot, it failed, and JD got hurt. JD should have been moved prior to the season but they aren't looking to move him now because they want to get rid of him. It's because he's a FA at the end of the year. The pattern of selling low in this case is either out of the front office control or just the circumstances of years of control. Stroman has no relation to either of those things so I don't think there's any reason to worry about it now.
  24. JD was held on too long but he’s only being moved now because of his FA status. If he had two years left like Stro then they’d wait until his value increased. Osuna was moved for entirely different reasons.
  25. 3 innings away from there being a tie for 1st place in the AL West. Got to hand it to the A's. For as much derp as they did in 2014/15 (JD and other trades), it only took them 3 years to bounce back. That's a solid transitional period.
