    Dombrowski's first move will be to sign Harper to a 3 year extension so that his contract ends in 2034 instead of 2031.

    Semien would be a good target if the Jays needed a SS. If they sign Kim he's likely going to play 3B, whereas Semien may want to stick at short, especially if he has to sign a shorter deal. I think the only acquisition who would take Bo off SS is Lindor.

    I don't think the Jays are getting Bauer, but it's interesting how the team has been linked to everyone, literally everyone, but little to no mention of Bauer from what I've seen (or maybe I missed it). Not even Morosi trying to troll for clicks. Maybe Luba's presence on social media is scaring the faux rumor specialists like Morosi from posting.

    Imagine being a billionaire, buying your childhood team with your own money, and just signing everyone you want within a month of owning the team. Cohen living every sports fan's dream. Good for him and the Mets. Unfortunately, bad for the Jays.

    Seems like the Mets will get McCann and probably Springer. I wonder if they go after Bauer too?

    Unless there is a surprise team out there with money looking for a catcher, I think the Jays end up with Realmuto at this rate (assuming McCann ends up with the Mets).

    If the Jays have been linked to him and it's not based on a Morosi tweet, then that's good. The Ryu connection/friendship would certainly help in that case. Of course the Jays have been interested in everyone this winter according to baseball media.

    Yankees apparently lost more money than any team in baseball in 2020, they don't want to go crazy in luxury tax territory, and have to re-sign LeMathieu. If they re-sign DJ, then I don't think they are going to spend much on pitching.

    Yeah, the original tweet made it sound like Ryu was helping to recruit Kim. Turns out Kim just wanted to have dinner, and you know Ryu ain't turning down a meal. We don't know how the Jays even value Kim as nothing has been reported about it (to my knowledge), so who knows. If the Jays are interested in him, then a dinner with Ryu where the Jays org may have been discussed couldn't hurt.

    I have no idea if Kim will be good or not, but from a fit and age standpoint, he's a logical target for the Jays. Can play SS/3B and is only 25. Would fit nicely with the current group.

    Yeah, Lindor being a MLBPA rep now definitely lessens the potential for an extension, at least a reasonable one. He's going to want to test FA to get as much money as possible.

    I'm actually bullish on Gurriel being a 120 wRC+ player, but him in a package for Gray, preferably followed by a Springer signing, would be great. The Jays would have to add stuff to the trade, but it's the Reds, so logic doesn't necessarily have to apply.

    The Reds are apparently looking to move Gray as well, who has a great contract, so it’s definitely a money issue, although with Cincy you can’t discount insanity.

    According to Trollosi, Ha-Seong Kim has formally been posted. Curious to see what his market is.

    Agreed. It was mentioned that Lindor's been the 3rd best player in baseball based on WAR since he debuted, and that's true, but he has a 118 wRC+ over that span, where players around him in the top 10 are in the 130's and 140's. His value is largely dependent on defense and base running (and he's been a negative BsR the last two years), and I don't know if I'd trust those two things to age very well. Certainly not over another 10-12 years, or whatever it would take to extend him.

    Expecting Lindor to be an elite players into his mid-30's seems pretty optimistic. Getting age 27-32 Lindor would be great, but then if there's still something like 5/150 or 6/180 left on his deal after that, then it becomes a much riskier proposition.

    I wouldn't be against Gurriel as the main piece for Lindor, but I'd be wary of extending him for 10 years or whatever it would cost to lock him up before hitting free agency.

    Wonder what it would take to get Sonny Gray. He makes $10m in 2021 and $10m in 2022 + a $12m team option for 2023. That's nothing.

    My guess is he ends up getting something similar to Donaldson's deal last winter (4/92), maybe a little less. I doubt anyone is giving him 5 years.

    It won't be long until Morosi links him to the Jays, so might as well post this here before that happens.

    Agreed. The better option is clearly signing LeMathieu or Springer since both fill obvious needs, but a pivot towards Realmuto + trading catching depth, if that's what ends up being available to the Jays, has to be considered an option depending on the circumstances (what Realmuto would cost, what teams are offering for Jansen, etc).

    I don't think the Jays should be investing that much in a catcher turning 30 either, especially since they have a lot of depth there (even though there's no guarantee any of them end up being as good as JTR) but realistically if they wanted to acquire an "impact" player this off season, then a few dominos could lead to Realmuto being the most realistic player who fits that criteria. Then they can trade Jansen for another area of need, and so on. My preference in this market is one of Springer/Bauer/LeMathieu, and I would think that's the Jays preference as well, but circumstances could change.

    The Yankees tendered Gary Sanchez, so they might be out on the catching market, especially since they have to re-sign LeMathieu to a big deal. Not sure what other teams would be in on Realmuto at the price range he's looking for if the Mets sign McCann. If the Jays miss out on Springer and LeMathieu, and McCann signs with the Mets, then it might open up Realmuto to the Jays.
