  1. Considering Reyes is 2-23 in his last 5 games, he needs an off-day.
  2. 1.5 games actually. Had Minnesota's offense been at least competent last series, Boston could easily be further back in the standings. You don't usually win scoring only 5 runs in a series.
  3. That's not what I said. I meant that Boston was worse off getting Doubront and Buchholz back. De La Rosa and Workman had better numbers in every category than what Doubront and Buchholz have provided this year. Unfortunately, both De La Rosa and Workman will be rewarded with bus tickets to Pawtucket because Boston cannot send down Doubront or Buchholz due to them being out of options (Doubront), or not allowed to send down without permission (Buchholz, who has 5+ years of service time.)
  4. Worse for Boston, because of poor roster construction in the rotation and bullpen, Workman and De La Rosa have bus tickets to AAA Pawtucket coming despite their strong performance, because Doubront and his barely 90 MPH fastball and a Ricky Romeroesque Clay Buchholz are returning. Both of them will be optioned unless Boston DFAs a reliever or trades one. Unfortunately, the Sox and a delusional John Farrell will not cut Chris Capuano or Edward Mujica. And I have a bad feeling they will likely trade De La Rosa or Workman, or other SP prospects in a desperation move to get a decent OF just to try to make the postseason (Ethier? Kemp? Somebody else?)
  5. After another Red Sox loss which continues to sink them further out of contention, Farrell remains just as delusional as ever: http://www.csnne.com/boston-red-sox/farrell-sox-very-close-going-run "Honestly, I look at it like this,'' began Farrell. "We are very close to becoming a team that will go on a run for an extended period. We've got a number of strong things already in place and that is pitching -- both in terms of our rotation and our bullpen. I think we're playing very good defense. Most likely they'll go on a run... when Farrell and several of their coaches are fired for their poor performance this season, and several of their veterans (mostly bullpen arms, Peavy and possibly Lackey) are traded for prospects and pieces they desperately needed.
  6. Red Sox lose on a walk-off by Coco Crisp. So status quo pretty much in the AL East, with only the O's gaining ground (Rays are too far back to be a factor.) Let's hope for a strong game by Dickey tomorrow.
  7. Reds called up prospect Carlos Contreras to help the bullpen, and cut Roger Bernadina. No idea how available the arms in our bullpen are today outside of Redmond, who is definitely unavailable.
  8. Bet we see Drabek or Sanchez next time a starter is needed before Morrow returns(Nolin is injured.)
  9. Can you merge the threads regarding Rasmussen's callup? I was a bit slow getting the news up.
  10. Well, after that game, the Reds bullpen post-mortem was like this: 3.1 IP, 7H 9ER, 6 BB, 1K, and a WHIP near 4.00. That's pretty ugly!
  11. Doesn't help that Bryan Price doesn't have many reliable bullpen arms besides Broxton and Chapman.
  12. You know, yesterday or today, I warned that the Reds bullpen was terrible outside of Chapman and Broxton.. tonight showed that how distant the Reds are from contending vs. the Cardinals, Dodgers and Brewers.
  13. Good point. The Jays need some fresh arms after this crazy game. Hey, it could be worse.. imagine what Bryan Price is doing to the Reds pen right now, likely chewing them out and getting bus tickets and/or DFAs ready after the bullpen coughed up 9 runs.
  14. That's possible too.. but the Jays may want someone who can go multiple innings, like McGuire. Remember, Redmond pitched 3 1/3 innings tonight, and Chad Jenkins has pitched 3 days in a row.
  15. Brad Mills still looks like the crappy pitcher the Jays let go.. already near 90 pitches in the 4th inning. No wonder the Brewers were willing to give him up for a loonie.
  16. Either Rob Rasmussen or Deck McGuire will likely be called up tomorrow to get a fresh arm. My bet's on McGuire.
  17. Zach Britton sucks. He blows up in the 9th and hands the Yankees a win 5-3.
  18. WOW! Kratz with a RBI double and the Jays have come ALL THE WAY back and taken the lead!
  19. BTW, Doubront is STILL garbage. He just gave up a 3-run shot to Donaldson. Oakland up 3-0.
  20. Yes, but McGowan can go 2 innings. Also, a fresh arm is coming up tomorrow when Hendriks is sent to Buffalo (and I bet he's probably there by now.)
  21. And Chapman's about to be used in a tie game with Lawrie, Rasmus, Saki and Kratz coming up(double-switched when McGowan came in).
  22. Something to consider: Broxton wasn't good yesterday, with serious control issues. Chapman threw 1.1 IP yesterday in the extra-inning affair. And JJ Hoover and Sam LeCure aren't that good.
  23. And a fresh arm will be replacing him, likely a long-man.
