  1. At the rate David Huff is pitching tonight, New York is going to have trouble tomorrow if David Phelps struggles vs. Tampa, who will have Chris Archer pitching. The Rays are salivating at the possibility of facing a worn-down Yanks bullpen and not facing Tanaka, looking to help the Jays out (although Baltimore is facing Texas.. but the Rangers are still dangerous.)
  2. 7-5 Red Sox. Mookie Betts badly misplayed a ball in RF, allowing Ichiro to reach 3rd on a triple, which Brett Gardner then scored.
  3. Mookie Betts' first MLB at-bat ends up being a GIDP. 1-0 Red Sox though on Stephen Drew's RBI single.
  4. Jays at least still own 1st place. Not so for the Giants.. thanks to today's loss, the Giants are tied with the Dodgers. As a result, there is now a clusterf*** in the NL Wild Card due to the Cardinals loss to the Dodgers: 1st wild card Dodgers +2.5 (tied in NL West) Giants +2.5 (tied in NL West) 2nd wild card Reds -- (3 way tie) Nationals -- (3 way tie) Cardinals -- (3 way tie) Pirates 1.5 GB What a mess..
  5. Astros fans don't agree. In fact, their ownership is very much hated in Houston. Plus, the Astros will NEVER contend in the AL West, as the Angels, A's, Mariners and Rangers are far superior to the Astros. And their spending is on hold until they get a TV deal (their TV deal is losing money because of Comcast Sportsnet Houston's bankruptcy). With the Astros' financial issues, it's unlikely they will get to $100M in payroll anytime soon. Most fans have abandoned the Astros due to their anger at Jim Crane. And the Jays had to make those moves. Besides, most of those pieces traded have yet to pan out in the majors.
  6. What a train wreck the Giants have turned into.
  7. Grilli just blew the game in KC (with some assistance from Aybar on a missed catch). Does LA even know how to evaluate relievers?
  8. Still about a year away, though. And they need bullpen help.
  9. O's trying to make a meaningless comeback vs. the Rays. 12-7 now on a Flaherty 3-run shot.
  10. Very cute. Too bad Pixar can't create anything to help the Giants hit or pitch, as that team has had an even worse spiral lower than the Jays.. they could be tied with the Dodgers at the end of today if the Dodgers win and Giants lose.
  11. As long as Betts hits, any offense would be great for Boston, whose OFs have been awful this year. And Bradley should be in AAA.. if Boston had better options.
  12. Yes, we need a SP and a 2B. Lawrie will be back after the All-Star Break, and Bautista's back Tuesday. Plus, the trade market should pick up soon.
  13. Mookie Betts is in tonight's lineup for Boston, batting 8th: Holt 3B, Nava LF, Pedroia 2B, Ortiz DH, Napoli 1B, Pierzynski C, Drew SS, Betts RF, Bradley Jr. CF, Lackey RHP. This should be an easy win for the Red Sox, as they're facing Chase Whitley, who we lit up earlier this week.
  14. True. But Baltimore's and New York's struggles tell that the AL East is just plain terrible this season. At the current pace, 3 AL West teams (Oakland, LA and Seattle) will make the playoffs, while two of Toronto, Baltimore or New York(Boston and Tampa definitely) will be watching from the clubhouse. You can imagine TBS and Fox aren't looking forward to frequent 10:00pm starts in the postseason if it's something like Oakland vs. LA/Sea in the postseason. The AL East needs to wake up! Hopefully the turn to July will get the Jays sparked again. Bautista's back Tuesday.. maybe that'll help. BTW, the AL East is awful vs. the Central: Toronto 13-13 Baltimore 9-14 Yankees 4-6 Boston 9-13 Rays 4-9 Those numbers show a massive talent gap between the AL East and AL Central. Most of the AL Central have younger teams and stronger offenses. So Toronto is not alone in struggling vs. the AL Central.. yet we're .500 against them thanks to wins vs. Cleveland, KC and Detroit offsetting struggles vs. Chicago and Minnesota.
  15. Boston needs big power. They're near the bottom in OPS and SLG, and considering they play in a bandbox at Fenway, that's inexcusable. Has anyone seen Betts play the OF in the minors?
  16. Bautista's available to pinch-hit today. Blue Jays-Official ‏@BlueJays 1m .@JoeyBats19 speaks to media before the game. Jose says he'll be available to pinch hit today. Yes! But don't expect him back in the lineup regularly until Tuesday.
  17. Hey, if you think we have it bad, ask the SF Giants, who have seen their entire lead disappear, as the Dodgers have caught them. As for the road trip, we swept Oakland earlier this year (and they just lost Reddick to the DL), LA is dangerous if they pitch well (unless someone other than Weaver, Wilson and Richards pitch), and Tampa is a hot mess.
  18. Yes, but the Yanks and O's have games to make up and/or games to play while the Jays have off days.
  19. Rays win! Jays stay 1.5 up on the O's.
  20. Good news for the Jays. Kevin Kiermaier(what a glove he has!) just hit a 2-run bomb to give the Rays a 5-0 lead, and Chen is out after only 3.1 IP. Now we wait for the Yanks/Red Sox game (Sportsnet, FOX tonight at 7pm)
  21. True. But Boston desperately needs a big bat. They can't expect David Ortiz to continue to be their entire power output, especially with the rest of the lineup regressing and their extra-base power near the bottom of the league (15th of 15 in SLG, 14th in OPS, hurt by a 14th ranked batting average)
  22. Agreed. And that is NOT what Boston needs right now. They need a big power bat in that lineup, such as Giancarlo Stanton.
  23. We're in luck. We get the weaker part of the Brewers rotation in Ma(HR)rco Est(HR)ada (I know it's Estrada, but he's worse than Dickey in giving up HRs), and Wily Peralta, avoiding Gallardo, Garza and Lohse.
