  1. Well, you might get your wish: Nick Cafardo ‏@nickcafardo If you can take on 19 mill in 2015, Mark Buehrle could be added to avail SP before Aug. 31 when he clears waivers. Angels?
  2. ANd likely takes Ron Washington with him too. Looks like the Rangers are back to the bad old days of big bats and no pitching, and no contention.. sounds like the Buffalo Bills.
  3. Only if it's a pitcher. Jays will almost certainly give Cabrera a QO. Rasmus is uncertain. And the free agent market is seriously thin on bats..
  4. Regarding Cherington, he only took the risk on the Castillo signing because there are no decent options on the free agent market that Boston would want. And it's not a slam dunk he will be able to acquire a starter.. the poor negotiations with Jon Lester are going to tick off free agent pitchers, feeling Boston won't give a 6-7 year deal to anybody because of risk. It's possible he may have to use some of their farm to acquire a starter.
  5. This team was only projected to be a 81-83 win team at best earlier in the season. Regression to the mean, I guess.. but this has been a terrible month! Injuries and fatigue with the pitching has hurt.
  6. Most were predicting low 80s at best anyway. Anything less and Gibbons/AA should be turfed. We need change here.
  7. Jorge Soler coming up tomorrow. Stats in the minors in 2014(3 levels): .338, 23 2B, 14HR, 54RBIs, 33/47 BB/K ratio, 1.118 OPS Next up, Kris Bryant.. this Cubs team is going to be legit in 2015 if they get some pitching.
  8. Angels doing a terrible job tonight vs. the Fish.. Wade LeBlanc was garbage. Back to 1st place the A's will go (leading 8-2 now.. oh, and Stanton hit a deep HR at Angel Stadium.) Mariners need to take advantage.. but are trailing 1-0 to Texas at the moment (good thing they upheld the Tomas Telis groundout.)
  9. Well, the O's need this win, as the Yankees lead the Royals 6-1 as we speak, as the Yanks lit up James Shields.
  10. Seattle hangs up quickly. They can't take on any more money, nor do they want to give up their young players. Look, everybody, save your Bautista trade rumors until he actually demands a trade. This isn't fair to him or the Jays organization. Plus, this isn't a market like Oakland or Miami, who would've been pressured to trade him due to money.
  11. Jays hang up because of BJ Upton and Braves hang up because they have no interest in getting rid of Jason Heyward.. nobody wants that contract, plus the Braves aren't giving up any of those players you suggest.
  12. Plus, Boston is going nowhere in 2015 regardless of Castillo, Cespedes and any pitcher they add. There are a lot of issues with the Red Sox roster right now.. It starts with the pitching, as none of their young pitchers have been effective in the majors so far, with Workman just getting optioned to AAA after putting up a near 5 ERA (4.21 xFIP, 4.30 SIERA) and some mediocre peripherals. Clay Buchholz is still suffering from Ricky Romero-itis.. and Rubby De La Rosa has been pitching well above his head and is due for regression.. but he has been one of their better pitchers. Allen Webster has long-term bullpen middle reliever written all over him.. his control issues aren't getting any better, and he continues to get lit up.. his SIERA is over 6 and xFIP is an ugly 5.93. And of course, the jury's still out on Anthony Ranaudo, Matt Barnes and Henry Owens, as two of those pitchers have yet to reach the majors, and Ranaudo has put up less-than stellar numbers in the MLB despite the 2-0 record. And Joe Kelly is a backend starter/long reliever at best. Boston has a lot of work to do with that rotation.. one ace starter isn't going to fix this mess. For 2015, only De La Rosa should be guaranteed a spot, along with Kelly. None of the others, even Buchholz, should be guaranteed a spot on a big-market team like Boston. But I can't see Boston adding more than 1 starter, if any because of the low-balling they did with Jon Lester possibly leaving a sour taste in agent's mouths, and ownership's impetus not to add starters on 5-6 years deals when over 30 due to the risk of the contracts being albatrosses (Sabathia, Verlander, potentially Cain). Oh, and they need to resign Uehara as well. As for the offense, any improvement must come from David Ortiz and Dustin Pedroia. Especially Pedroia, who needs to show better numbers offensively than what he's had this season(100 points below career norms on OPS.) and is being paid like the .800 OPS hitter he's supposed to be. They need Bogaerts to develop.. and right now, he should be in AAA right now working on his swing, but is only up because Boston refuses to give up on him due to being a #1 prospect, even though they're better off putting Holt there for the time being. Ditto for Middlebrooks.. he needs to stay healthy and show his power potential. But time is running out for him.. he'll be 27 next season and might be out of options. And despite what fans think, Stanton is NOT walking through that door.. Miami wants MLB ready young players for Stanton, and will not take AA/AAA prospects that are years away, especially when they're trying to contend.
  13. And the Jays would hang up the phone. Cespedes is a free agent after 2015, and Betts + Owens isn't enough to move Bautista, especially considering the uncertainty on Betts regarding where is he best suited.
  14. Dodgers will only work if they kick money in for us to take Kemp, Crawford or Ethier, as they are desperate to move an outfielder.
  15. Won't work unless the Dodgers make the Jays take Ethier, Kemp or Crawford. LA can't take anymore outfielders with so many overpaid OFs on the roster, and Joc Pederson blocked by LA spending so much on Kemp and Ethier, along with taking Crawford's contract in 2012.
  16. Pittsburgh doesn't have the funds to take Bautista's contract, plus already have Marte/McCutchen/Polanco/Snider in their OF.
  17. AL East team = NO. It's not smart to trade in division. And Bautista is more likely to stay with the Jays than be traded to Boston.
  18. And the Jays would hang up the phone. Boston doesn't have the equivalent of Bautista in their system to make a trade. Plus, Jays won't trade in the AL East.. it's common sense not to trade within division.
  19. No guarantees. We haven't reached the offseason yet. And Boston also needs a number of players to rebound if they're even going to contend in 2015. Cespedes and Castillo can't do it alone, nor can whatever they add in a free agent starting pitcher, if they add any. Especially looking at David Ortiz and Dustin Pedroia.. unless they rebound, Boston is still a ways away from being a contender again. As for the Jays.. we need to resign Cabrera(or find a LF equivalent), get a 2B, and maybe another starter..
  20. Holy Edwin Escobar was horrid.. I thought this guy was a top prospect. Nevertheless, the Bisons will enjoy this victory (15-2 as we speak). Only 1 game out of a playoff spot!
  21. Exactly. We don't want to end up like the Yankees, who have pricey vets and are struggling to contend with a declining roster. Or a better example, the Phillies, whose refusal to rebuild has left the roster needing an Astros-style blowup. We have to develop young pitching to supplement our core.
  22. And this season has been bad all around. At least the 2012 team was competitive until late July before Ortiz's injury and the team's absolute implosion, leading to the Dodgers bailout. The 2012 team may have stayed in the race had Ortiz not gotten hurt. 2014 has been bad all around.. and there's no guarantee the team recovers in 2015 even with Castillo, Cespedes, Craig being added and the chance they add a free agent starter. Unlike the 2012 team which had Ortiz coming back healthy in 2013, there's no guarantee Ortiz will continue to perform at a high level as he approaches 40 in 2015.. his numbers are trending the wrong way. And don't forget about Pedroia as well, who due to injuries has seen his power sapped (looking at career lows in SLG and OPS). Even if they add a free agent starter this offseason, they're also going to need rebounds from Buchholz and recent acquisition Joe Kelly, and development from young starters.
  23. O's about to lose a series with the Cubs. Down 7-2 in the 9th.. Yankees will be 7 back, Jays 8 at end of tonight. Oh, and Chris Davis made a horrible play at 3rd today.. they really need Machado like we do Lawrie. As much as the O's are unlikely to collapse down the stretch.. keep in mind the Giants destroyed San Diego's 6-game lead back in 2010, and the Rays wiped out Boston's 9-game lead in 2011, and the A's wiped out the Rangers' 6 game lead in 2012.. it can be done, and is a possibility with Machado out for the season. But why should we be concerned? The O's are unlikely to collapse.
  24. No chance the Rays win the protest, because MLB will not throw the umpires under the bus for making that judgement error regarding review.
  25. No chance the Rays win the protest. SF only won the protest because of the staff putting on the tarp in Chicago being incompetent.
