  1. Fangraphs likes the deal.. Oakland is now projected to be in a dogfight with the Angels, Jays, Rays(won't last), and Indians for wild cards. As for the Rays.. huge question marks regarding the 2015 roster, and it's very likely ownership is not done selling, with Jennings or DeJesus next to go. Heck, it's still possible Longoria gets dealt too.. rumor has it an unnamed NL team (Dodgers?) or teams inquired on him. It's like ownership is blowing up the roster to rebuild to contend when the team is sold and moves to Montreal/Charlotte/wherever in a few years, with no stadium on the horizon in Tampa. What's your guess on the attendance in Tampa this year? The 2003 franchise low of 13,070 (per game) will almost certainly be shattered after this fire sale.. yes, I know they brought in Asdrubal Cabrera, but his value stinks right now because of his terrible 2B/SS defense.. and who knows whether his bat will rebound.
  2. Rays sign Juan Francisco to minors deal to K a ton.. at least he's not in Toronto anymore to hurt our lineup.
  3. And some of them have to escort Ace around as well so that he stays on schedule and doesn't risk getting sick and/or passing out due to overheating. Trust me, I know. As someone who's done mascots, I can tell you that someone has to be around at all times for safety reasons.
  4. I'm guessing many MLB teams, including Toronto, sensed that he'd up being another flop like Nakajima or that one on the Twins a few years back.. plus, Toritani likely asked for way too much money from MLB teams.
  5. Jayson Werth out 2-3 months with shoulder surgery, looks like Michael Taylor will be the starting LF to start 2015:
  6. Why not? Good minors numbers.. but frequently blocked in the minors.
  7. Texas and Arizona still need catchers. Arizona has Gosewisch and a Rule 5 pick projected for opening day, Texas has Chirinos and unproven prospect Tomas Telis. Expect them to get desperate for a catcher closer to Opening Day.
  8. And it probably means Refsnyder's being dealt. They promised to give Refsnyder a shot.. once again, the Yanks still won't commit. It's why they'll be likely on a treadmill of mediocrity for a while.. there's no Core Four(Jeter/Rivera/Posada/Pettite) coming in the Yankees system anytime soon.
  9. DH? I mean, he did a good job offensively last year for $5M.
  10. What's your bet they trade Refsnyder or Pirela now? For some reason, the Drew deal makes me think they're going to package Refsnyder and others for a high-end starter because of their concerns about the fragility of Sabathia, Tanaka and Pineda. Good thing the deal's for low money.. what if his bat doesn't rebound back to at least 2013 levels?
  11. Gorzelanny signs with the Tigers, Putkonen DFAd. Despite his good numbers last season though, it's a small sample size because of shoulder surgery.
  12. Does anyone want Shields (or Scherzer?).. it won't be the Giants.
  13. And most still think Boston can afford to sign James Shields.. which they can't without a trade of Victorino, Nava or Craig, as the 40 man is full, and they can't afford to trade/DFA their top prospects or depth options in the minors just to make roster space (heck, they still haven't made the Breslow deal official because they still have not been able to clear a 40-man roster spot.) That, and they're over the tax. He's likely heading to the Giants. It makes the most sense for him.
  14. Severino is at least 1-2 years away, however. The Yankees are really lacking in MLB-ready depth in the minors. Neither Bryan Mitchell or Chase Whitley should be starting on an MLB team. They also have Ian Clarkin in the system.. but he's much further away. The Yanks really need to add another starter.. they're already having Crap Cushion(Chris Capuano) in their rotation. Nova is still a ways away from a return, and they'll be in serious trouble if Sabathia, Tanaka or Pineda get hurt.
  15. Of course, he's pitched in the NL and in pitcher's parks for the last 2 years. How his stuff translates in the AL is another question. And his away numbers outside of Turner Field are not encouraging (2-3, 4.88 ERA, 1.66 WHIP in 2014).
  16. Most of Carpenter's bad numbers were from a bad June. However, it is difficult to tell if his strong numbers in Atlanta will translate at Yankee Stadium. Same with Justin Wilson. As for Chase Shreve, it will depend on his Spring Training.. he could make the Yankees, but it's likely he may start in SWB.
  17. Too bad their starting depth is nearly non-existent after this trade. In addition, David Carpenter regressed substantially last season, as did Justin Wilson. Chasen Shreve is still a tough call. Makes you wonder if Atlanta and Pittsburgh knows something..
  18. Yanks give up on Manny Banuelos, sending him out for relief help:
  19. Here's proof Boston is over the tax, and is unlikely to add an ace (right now, at least.. more likely they wait until the deadline...IF they are in contention. Just because they made all those additions doesn't mean anything.. they still have a questionable rotation of NL guys with question marks on how they'll pitch at Fenway and in the AL East(Kelly, Miley), a guy whose numbers were inflated by being in pitcher's parks such as Detroit(Porcello), a Romero-esque Buchholz, and a cooked Masterson, with questionable talent in the minors. And let's not start regarding the bullpen.. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/red_sox_mlb/clubhouse_insider/2014/12/money_matters_updating_the_red_sox_payroll_as_2015
  20. Most likely he'll be playing LF in Cincy. As for Lively, his numbers were strong in the minors last year (13-7, 3.04 ERA, 52/171 BB/K ratio, 1.119 WHIP, although he struggled a little in AA.)
  21. UPDATE: Byrd officially to Reds. RHP Ben Lively going to Philly in the deal.
  22. And last, Hundley to the Rockies:
  23. Jon Heyman reports the Reds are in talks re: Marlon Byrd.. sorry O's fans!
  24. Denorfia to the Cubs. And Arruebarrena of the Dodgers DFAed... should AA go after him for SS depth in the majors or minors? (he still has options left). Sorry it's not separate.. but this Around Baseball topic has gotten off course..
