    The problem is, there is no room in the rotation unless someone gets injured. Maybe a new PC can conjure some spells but doubt it.

    First person to go will be the PC. A couple more rounds through the rotation and if things don't improve, I can't see Walker staying here. There's too much money now in the rotation, this isn't a bunch of scraps put together anymore. This team, although with many holes, was assembled to now compete for the WS.

    Might have been ranked a top 5 team, but they will need more BP and SP to make it far this year. We can't complain about payroll though but they still haven't signed some key pieces long term yet.

    Bauer can only get league min, so he's going to have his choice of where to pitch. Hopefully we go after him.

    At his prime, would KK have netted a top 10 prospect in all of baseball, and you can look at his fWAR numbers to compare with Varsho. Just wondering what you guys think.

    Maybe my english was hard for you to comprehend. You don't trade one of the best pitching prospects in all of baseball for something like that. Stop being a fanboy and look at the trade objectively. You should be getting a much more rounded player for Moreno. Varsho projects for 3.1 fWAR next year, could easily be outproduced by Moreno.

    Dbacks fans on reddit love the trade. They got one of the best catching prospects in baseball for a career 101 WRC+ hitter. Good job Hazen fleecing Atkins!

    You have him for a corner spot, could have just signed Conforto or get a better return than Varsho back.

    I would have been fine with Jansen. I just think there's way too much upside with Moreno. He can easily outwar Varsho next year and is younger. So I am trying to figure it out, they are a better team with Moreno + Gurriel than with Varsho. This is a great trade for Arizona though, sold high on Varsho.

    I would love Bauer on the team, but I just think Toronto is not going to pursue him. Like other people said, he's going to end up with the Astros or a city that cares about winning more than his baggage.

    Great deal for ARI. Moreno should put up nice numbers there, wouldn’t be surprised if they have similar WARs next year. Varsho projects for about 3 war and Moreno should hit that if he starts.

    That's why it's 12 years. Firstly, the time value of money will make the last 5-6 years slightly less and it evens it out over a longer pay period. At age 35-36 he's probably worth 0 war, but teams are throwing money for deals into the 40s. So is he worth a 6/315m? Who knows, the Mets will need to make it to the WS and they are all in, so maybe.

    So their payroll with tax is now basically a half a billion dollars?

    All these contracts for guys over 35 are extremely risky but clubs are still giving them out. If you get to the WS or even win, the merch/tv sales + franchise value increase offsets the 30-70m you might lose on WAR value easily.

    Contreras looked like he had some good numbers last year, is only 24, and over a full season would have put up more WAR than Murphy. Is this a real big upgrade for them?

    I think most of these teams are banking on persistent medium/high inflation still (as long as we keep these current governments they are probably right) and that 10m/war will probably be 13m/war in 3-4 years and so forth.

    If it's like a 8m/yr deal it's not too bad, considering Haniger got 14m/yr. Are the details out yet?

    They really signed him for 12m? I hope they didn't go that high for him. Jays need a HR they still need Conforto. A big bat.

    It's not like they signed Kikuchi who is useless. Turner is projected for what? 4.7war a year? Even if he gives them 5-6 good years, they will have broken even on it, the rest will be just a bonus. Add jersey sales, and a possible championship and it's peanuts for a big market team willing to sign a key position player.

    Not impossible, but highly unlikely. Jays just need to get a couple off Castillo and make it close. A 1 run game can be tied with a swing of the bat. Jays just need to string together a couple of hits, they have the bats.
