  1. Of course Merrifield could play 1B in a pinch. Its first base and he is also an IF. You do what you have to for the W. Every game is a playoff game these days with these standings.
  2. Honestly believe these are just voodoo numbers on his performance in non save situations. I just think its more bad luck and random than anything. I have a fair bit of criticism on Schneider but in this case he is just using his best arm available to keep it tied, to have a chance of winning. Romano then proceeds to BB the #9. Who knew? I really can't fault him on that one.
  3. Last nights tough loss exposed our holes glaringly: - 16th in runs scored/game. Of the teams we are chasing or near only NYY worse and they have been injury decimated. - Lack of faith in Kooch 3rd time through, even though he has as good a stuff and command as I've seen last night. - Espy and Kirk our RH pinch hitting solutions. Espy PH's for Varsho and K's and Kirk GIDP. Not totally unexpected outcomes. Ironic Teo walks us off. - We used every leverage pen arm except Mayza in asking them to get 14 outs after pulling Kooch after 5 1/3. Today Gausman is back but we aren't sure what we are going to get yet coming off injury, and tomorrow its Manoah and the odds are the pen will be asked to eat a lot of IP. I hope we can pull out the next 2. Thank god I didn't fly to SEA for the pleasure of paying 40% exchange to watch.
  4. We aren’t scoring much and the early hook for a starter throwing so well puts too much pressure on the pen to get 14 outs and be perfect. Not to mention the rest of the series we have to cover.
  5. Ya. We s*** on his bat. Deservedly so. But hustle, D and baserunning can be pretty dam impressive.
  6. Buck so bewildered Varsho ran to first after he hit the ball.
  7. Early hook for Kikuchi off a crappy IF hit.
  8. Running Manoah out there Sunday in this dog fight we are in is 100% on the FO. Its tantamount to Tyler Chatwood '21, but even worse. When you look at some of the rotation challenges, injury wise, of teams with as good or better records our lack of depth is brutal.
  9. Just bought tickets for aug 11 12 13 in TOR. Jose’s big event on 12th sold out already. Had to buy that game on stubhub. Should be some chillingly good memories on the big screen.
  10. LOL. I am just joshing man. Its all good. I agree a million percent with the bold. I got 0 against spending Rogers dough on players but the best teams usually always have a combination of home grown & developed and/or young cheaper talent mixed in. Think about the ol' Jays and Cone, Winfield, Molitor Stewart and even Morris. They sprinkled them into the core.
  11. Amazing when Vlad is Vlad what this team can do - Big timely DP with Mayza and a key knock for us oppo taco. Solid effort all round as the Hound stepped up to salvage the series.
  12. Yes. When I mean "acquire" I'm not talking about a boatload of FAs of that are established. I'm not talking about Yimi for 2/11 or established pen arms we get for trading Teo. I am referring to finding some undeveloped talent that we develop into value. With whatever method. Our rotation, except broken Alek, are all established FAs and our pen home grown effective arms are Mayza, Romano (rule 5) and maybe Pearson.
  13. The pitching lab is good the pitching lab is useless. What a silly debate. The real discussion is our success, or lack thereof, in drafting/acquiring/developing rotation and pen arms organizationally over the last 6-7 years. I can't imagine a "pitching lab" could be a bad thing, even if its not a silver bullet. I don't care how they do it, I only care about the results.
  14. All I can say is his ML numbers and '21 expectations make his swing and base running decisions even more mind boggling at times. 0.2 WAR is just the reality for '23 so far, and most of his career thus far is closer to that, than it is to '21. I cling to GB EV's and HR derby results to make myself feel better. I mean everyone was fine with getting rid of LGJ because he was "only" a 1-2 ish WAR player with a year left. At this point in '23, for Varsho and Vlad, that number is an aspirational goal for them lol. I did not see that coming.
  15. - Gets up - Sips coffee - Checks fangraphs for Vlad's WAR 2023 season today and its 0.2 - Checks AAV $14.5M
  16. I don't know how shiny its going to be hombre. Shiny is gonna cost...a lot. Are they prepared to move more of our higher end prospects to put more chips in?
  17. Its very fair to be critical of Vlad and some of the issues raised are legit, but its still hard to fathom this is even a real thread.
  18. We actually have to make the playoffs first bud and when Espy is PH'ing for KK because of the giant gap in the offence (or just a dumb decision - thats another issue) we need to fill it to make the playoffs. Its not ordained that we are in the playoffs (inserts painful memories of 2021 here again) How we fill the gap and with whom, is a good debate/discussion, but we need to fill it.
  19. They PH him last night for Espy. Virtually nobody should be untouchable. Depends on the deal and the need (net gain). We would all like to keep him.
  20. Ya. I see Moreno in a different light given the position he plays isn’t LF and it’s too early to know what his bat will be with any certainty, and Varsho has 1400 PAs and is 27. Also funny the other guy who is often brought up in this discussion around that deal is Kirk whose bat has him morphing into a fatter slower version of Moreno (so far).
  21. LGJ WAR 1.4 Varsho WAR 0.5 Which is saying something given LGJ has sucked for quite awhile now this season.
  22. Varsho bunting his way to another 4.7 WAR season? Only 4.2 WAR to go.
  23. If we don’t have to to get what we need great. But we shouldn’t take him off the table.
  24. The RHH issue is large. Everyone says no no not KK for one, but they just PH him for Espy to get us some runs FFS. Move Varsho to CF and get us a real bat for LHP who can DH and play LF.
