  1. 44 Ks in 112 ABs doesn't really tell the story. That's facing almost exclusively RHP. IF any fan(not the ones on here) have any illusions about his ability to play every day extrapolate what that total would be if he faced LHP much at all. Glad he is here and that he can tattoo RHP as well as play serviceable D, but I think his numbers will regress substantially as season progresses.
  2. Whats not to like about Melky's swing this year but I think we need to watch him the rest of the year. I think a lot depends on how this season plays out in terms of what we do. Leery to pay him more than 12-13mm per 3 years with option for 4th, but I don't know if that would do it. If he likes the team and TOR it might. Those are intangibles we don't really know. His range is in the bottom 3rd of LFers and despite running a lot better this year he is pretty poor defensively. Props for some clutch throws and catches this yr.
  3. If you want to reference a particular comment by a poster, hit "reply with quote"....then you can line up the comments.
  4. He said the delta in a later signing of say "40 to 46mm" over a period of years is not enough to make a move early with less information on a player vis a vis their resigning.
  5. Agree. I was just being sarcastic...
  6. Really wasn't aware OF defense has been a major problem this year?!
  7. That's why they are called prospects. Was reading Mets Message Board. Lots of fans losing patience with D'arnaud on O and D.
  8. Just ask Sergio. Wipeout slider. Cant get people to swing at it enough unless he is able to get his fastball over. This was a great report on the kid. I was following his starts but its good detail. Makes me less concerned if he is part of a move for SP later this year.
  9. Just what I said on Jose. Melky is a little lower than I thought but serviceable - if he wasn't a SH line drive machine and was running like last year Id feel differently. To me that compensates for it. Neither of them have great range but "lugs" is an overstatement imo. I haven't checked Colbys uzr stats from 2013, but his hamstring wouldn't help him this year so far.
  10. EE isn't going anywhere without something so absurdly good coming back it wont happen. A bona fide masher who still appears to have upside for $10mm through 2016. David Price for 1.5 years isn't worth that even with Myers, unless we are folding our tent. And in that case we likely wouldn't want Price's salary anyway and we would slowly bring up our arms.
  11. Yes, but he dragged his way into the final out for our first WS win so Ill always like him! He got into the crack seriously...total mess now. Sad story. Stole 6 bases in one game.
  12. Is there a rule about not being able to negotiate an extension as condition of a trade package and if so is it done anyway (a la Dickey) behind the scenes?
  13. I don't see Gose ever having a .330 OBP, but can live with that if he is 9th in our order and plays ++D and learns to be a tougher out. His SB success % hasn't been great in the ML for a guy who struggles to get on base. He needs to get that up.
  14. I was doing that math too on acquiring a stud SP, when I think it might be possible because it isn't now, and their remaining starts vs what Stroman might give you for wins. Hard to estimate. We have to assume the division will be tight. The other factor is, if you make it in, the huge value of a stud in the playoffs vs rookie. Price also has more than this yr control which is big.
  15. You got me thinking with this....just for fun checked out his ML stats http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=hinske001eri Im not a wizard with the stats like some on here. Any idea how to check his prospect rankings back through those years?
  16. My point is simply that he is unproven and in a race Id stick with EE for the now, although I take your point that there would be future value in taking that deal likely. I think he Myers will be fine too. But we have all seen our share of can't miss miss.
  17. Myers has a ton of potential but I think you are getting ahead of yourself. Hinske comes to mind. Even last year some of his numbers indicate concerns that he might be able to work through...or not. We will see. Plus we hope to be in a race this year. I don't want to replace Myers for EE in our order for Price every 5th day.
  18. LOVE Price in our rotation but I wouldn't. An everyday moose like EE who still might have even more upside, and who is dirt cheap relative to production/comparables for a guy who is already $14mm and is a FA in 2016. He adds value every 5th day if he pitches well. Who knows with Myers? Last year he looked to be on an unstoppable trajectory up, and this year he looks like Lawrie lite. Stuck at .666 OPS. Is that a sign? lol
  19. Some fair points. I get the back issue concern, but I don't get people going back to 2010-11-12 constantly. Since back from his near death experience in Las Vegas he is a much more 09ish hitter putting up excellent numbers against RHP, and he isn't expensive relative to a lot of vet contracts. One can argue that if we have to have a full time specialist DH LHH that is a poor fielder he needs to rake to stick and add big value - and he is. I trust his ability to hold these kinds of numbers a lot more than I trust Juans, as much as I appreciate what Francisco is doing. The fact he plays 3rd is an offsetting value increase over Lind.
  20. agree with that. There was a thread this week started on his empty production. I think its totally ********. While we might be trying to fix what aint broke I actually think Lind, the way he is swinging, could hit LHP more. He is looking 09 ish where he had a .780 OPS against them. But then again for that low of an upside why mess with what he has going right now, cause its fking impressive to watch how often he squares up the ball to all fields.
  21. I really like Lind and am thrilled he has come back so strongly since his 2012 trip to LV. But business is business and I would deal him for what we need. I am not as sold on Juan as some. His K rate is still obscene facing almost exclusively RHP. I don't trust him to continue at near this production. I look for a big regression there that will have us cursing him out. But we can get hired sticks elsewhere if need be at the deadline and if someone wants Lindy bad enough Id part with him reluctantly.
  22. Yup - those pieces don't get the SP we need. Teams dumping stud SP'ing are unlikely to want Rasmus's cost, even if AA was able to pull off a team friendly extension like he did with Y Escobar before he dealt him. That might changed if packaged with the right prospect(s).
