I started a thread talking about what we can expect for Lawrie on an avg offensive season a few weeks ago. A lot of different opinions from "Wright Light" to Rasmus-like. I still think his peak was that incredible 150 ABs in 2011 but I think this kid will be + D (@ 2 positions) and an OPS of .800 "ish" every year if he stays healthy. He has come up big for us quite a bit this year and 11 HRs is a solid pace. OPS hanging around .730. Hugely valuable asset with upside that's still cheap.

yes, its a couple months old. I think it came out in April when EE was just getting his stroke down for 2014.

I have no clear evidence, but anecdotally it looks to me like Lawrie has + speed but not fast acceleration which may be why he doesn't try to steal so much. He is faster going 1st to 3rd than a straight steal attempt. As for the platoon idea I was not a fan of it. I didn't want to mess with the great D Brett was providing at 3rd. But I think he handled it well and Juan has maintained enough OPS so far (and serviceable D) to make it worthwhile for now. Well played by Gibby.

Many of you have seen this Brunt article/film documentary on Edwin. Posting it for those who haven't. One of the best pieces I've ever seen of a guy who came from humble roots he has never lost...and who fought through later adversity, that we all witnessed, to become an amazing professional baseball player. Did you see the Brunt documentary piece on him from the Dominican? Loved it. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/edwin-encarnacion-on-home-turf/ Seems like a humble guy who came from nothing and got through a lot of lows and adversity in MLB. Hasn't lost his roots. Great story. -

Casey Because he battles and uses command to buck the stats as a closer. He came back and seemed to stabilize our pen performance. I like his compete and he Throws Strikes! which is something we desperately needed from our pen. Runner Up: Jose Buehrle (that's my way of cheating to pick two). The reasons are obvious. -
Well apparently it is for him now cause he almost blew it. Fair enough. I still think Gibby was a bit too quick to go to him in leveraged spots the way he was throwing. That's changed now I think.

Easy to say that on paper. I admit the deal was a head scratcher... But...his salary is market or under after last years Jimenez signings etc....he was coming off NL CY. You don't know what other options for SP would have actually done a deal with us. He will likely throw 600+ MLB innings of decent quality overall for us by the time Travis of Noah S do anything at MLB level meaningful. If he starts pitching better and we make the playoffs this year and/or next and he helps us in those series it will look different.

Dickey has been ok for his salary, and we don't know what we gave up will be yet. But he is frustrating. Yesterdays start is proof of why anyone reading too much into "Wins" for a SP is a joke with so many variables. Loup doesn't bail him out in 5th from based juiced no outs no W.

Fair enough. I agree you cant have it both ways unless you have unlimited payroll and replenish @ MLB level the FA route.

Take my name. We are all in at this point with deals (or damage depending on how you look at it). The AL East is open this year that opp rarely presents itself. Over the years reams of discussion has happened on the likes of Snider and D'arnaud, forecasting them as impact players in our line up under cheap control for years to come. I don't like Lee's contract but wouldn't be opposed to Sheilds deal. Id like to keep Stroman if possible as he actually looks like he could make some impact at the MLB level. Ill live with the consequences as a fan.

After Delabar most of last year anything from Thames deal is icing. His Ks are down and his BBs are up. Still has the stuff. I would move him out of high leverage hold situations and see if he can get it together...he just hasn't been able to get it done. Going to have to be Dustin for awhile. Neither is a premium option. The reality is he has been regressing since after the AS break 2013. The fact that Loup and Cecil can also get RHH out reasonably well makes it a bit less worrisome, but our pen is light this year. Spoiled in 2013.

Exactly...I remember well the debate about signing him and whether he would come here or not and for how much, and how good he would look in our uniform this year...sigh. Props to Hutch for matching him so far.
