  1. Good list NJH. thanks.
  2. PVRed game and just caught up to live. Couple comments: 1) There is no direct correlation between playing Navarro and increasing his value. I think Smoak got caught sending dick pics to Gibbys daughter. We are a much better team with him at 1st and Edwin DHing. 2) Hutch is so much better at home. FB movement and command. Inexplicable. Good but tight game. Go Jays!
  3. For sure he is...but he is an established MLB player and not as cheap (not questioning his value) as what we gave back to OAK.
  4. Hey....Anyone would agree it looks that way now. But you cant evaluate a 5 year deal in half of one season. That's not rational. In hindsight the LF experiment with Hanley looks like a failure and Panda is/was over rated imo. But it will take some time to really compare the deals. The Bosox are having a yr so far like they did when they dumped everyone of the Dodgers. I don't think they are as bad as they have shown.
  5. Call me crazy but I still have a lot of faith in Cecil and Loup and the best is yet to come for them in 2015. They just need to be moved down an inning and replaced with a closer (tall order I know).
  6. Fair points. Edwin and Jose with an aging Reyes are big holes to fill from within by 2017 in the line up. Not making the push could give us a team with young pitching and a lack of offense we haven't seen in awhile here. Some would be ok with that. Martin has been excellent this year but he is a 32 year old vet in the toughest pos on the body. He could fall off. That 5 year FA deal is too early to evaluate yet overall imo. AA would be half pregnant to not make a deal - otherwise the JD deal (and others) don't make sense with what we gave up. (much as I like it).
  7. Yup. Loup has touched 97 and Cecil 95 this year. Plenty hard for LHP out of pen. Issue (at times) has been command. Cecils' curveball is lights out but he hasn't been getting it where he wants to.
  8. The MIA and RA deals changed the paradigm for this team. Before that our record of actually drafting and developing MLB talent for our roster is pretty horrendous. If we didn't make those deals we would now be seeing more cheap controllable talent on it. But we did and our core (Edwin and Jose B and R) is aging. Martin(FA) and JD(giving up more controllable cheap talent) were major upgrades. Time to accept what we are and where we are and make the move(s).
  9. Agree - not entirely analogous. Kent was 20th rounder although he was showing signs of things to come talent wise with us. In that era roids changed the trajectory of a lot of careers.
  10. One thing I keep forgetting is Martins deal is back end loaded starting 2016. All bets are off on the budget if we make the deals - get over the top and Win. We don't know what Rogers would offer up then for payroll. I also think if Hamels continues to pitch like he has his deal is more moveable then Mark B's was, and he could be flipped again if the team doesn't break through.
  11. You cant have your cake and eat it too hombre. This is an arms race and we aren't the only buyers. To win the deal we will have to give and it will sting...a lot.
  12. Fair enough Hurl. I know they aren't completely analogous situations. My point is they are/would be major deals in season where we have to give to get. The reason we sold out 3 straight prior seasons were new stadium and the fact that we had been competitive since 85 winning 99. I find the "casual fan" gets slagged on this Board too much (not saying by you). They are the backbone of the baseball business like it or not. Agree major deals do create a ticket selling buzz for the casual fan but the flip side is they usually panic and bail first when/if the wins don't come. Then all you get left is obsessed baseball fans like us on this Board haha.
  13. Thanks. I like Sanchez's stuff but his BB/K ratio is still a big concern. Many think he is headed back to the pen. Im still not sure how those real issues disappear as a closer over long haul.
  14. Oh those darn silly know nothing fans. Its kinda like when we were "buzzing" getting Cone and winning the world series, giving up Kent. He has 3 more years at same cost of Reyes but we lose Mark B next season and possibly RA. He is a financial commitment to be sure but its manageable. He has a lot of miles on him but he has been a pretty consistent front end SP
  15. Whats the park adjusted dinger stat for a 3/game avg? He looked ok. 1 start. he deserves another. no BBs and good K rate.
  16. I love STRO but he has started 20 games in MLB coming off knee surgery. Not planning the CY parade just yet. Next year ...next year...next year? Why waste this O and the fact that we are there in it right now this season? JD and Martin were huge upgrades from 2014 team. Who knows when Edwin, Jose squared really start to slow down.
  17. Dude...4th means nothing. We are f***ing 2 games out with 80+ games left. At one point last year a couple months in WE were 5 games up! The whole point of a deal is to make that push over the top.
  18. lol...yup. that's about the size of it. the other long and short of it is that I don't think we have enough quality arms now even with this O to make it and to push if we do.
  19. Fair. AL East wide open this year and Edwin, Jose and Jose R all aging. Mark B and RA (likely-option) gone 2016. Some think that's easily backfilled with Stro, Sanchez (might be heading back to pen), Boyd, Hoff, Norris, Hutch which is true if ALL goes well. Hard to replace those 400 IP imo. We have an excellent offense and adequate to + D We do not have the arms now imo to make it and push if we do get there. You have to give to get which sucks. That's what confuses me about Rogers not budgeting more $ for FAs, where we don't have to give up the talent we are developing..."just" dough usually with a premium. This is the year.
  20. I think I fall over dead if we landed those two (joy)...and then fall over dead again at what we had to give up (sorrow).
  21. Im 50 and I remember those days allll too well. We were in many ways the place to be. Winning can put a new old twist back on things. I would move Norris if the $ is there. It would sting hard (not as bad as Thor) but Hamels is here and now. Norris is promising if, come, maybe.
  22. He was very lucky on some hard hit balls for sure but that's part of pitching a good game usually...what I thought was impressive was he kept taking what the ump and our line up was giving him to get outs hitting those spots. Anyway...f*** it...lets get them tomorrow.
  23. one of those days - well pitched - unlucky as f*** on BABIP and not getting calls. still got 6 outs. cmon jays. queue the comeback.
