  1. Camping in mtns and made mistake of checking score on RA start. I thought his option for 1 more year was a no brainer for 200 ish semi quality IP. But unless he turns it around, which I doubt, I'd rather watch a young cheap arm, with a chance of developing upside, give up runs than blow $12mm on RA. Frustrating to watch.
  2. Fair. Who says they are more than that? The point is we don't know. We have more information on veteran targets. In the case of Pompey I've read a lot of the scouting reports and saw what I saw. Like the kid and want him to succeed but it's just my opinion he is a marginal asset. I would like to be wrong. His swing is lllloooonnnngggg.
  3. In GDT thread July 1st asked if anyone had changed their view yet that he was more than a strong 4th OF option. A few said no. You are the 1st person to say yes. I hope you are right. Guy had admirable determination. I actually thought of Pillar yesterday when St Louis retired.
  4. I like Travis but have to admit Gose's start had me wondering if we just missed something on him. Um....nope. Same Gose. Comparing his 2015 fWAR to Pillar just makes me feel good.
  5. Thx. I wasn't sure on the TIC. Agree with you point.
  6. Depends on the other teams situation in terms of how they view our assets. They may be in a rebuild and want to move salary and be willing to take more FV risk on the prospects they get in return than a team trying to W now. Hamels *cough* Hamels
  7. Agree on Norris. We all want him to be better but the BBs in AAA are unsustainable in the bigs with the stuff he has. Sanchez continued to get lucky until he was hurt.
  8. That's a stretch. I understand the point you are making but Graveman was the arm Beane wanted. And he needed Lawrie @ 3rd. Nolin was an add on piece. A role Boyd may end up playing soon too.
  9. Any rational GM isn't going to put much weight on 2 starts but to say that it doesn't affect the shine on on asset is wishful thinking. Sometimes an assets highest value is attained before they ever throw a pitch in MLB. I'd actually like to see him get another start. He isn't that bad. He isn't our solution though.
  10. How many more "Insert random young hopeful arm prospect" stud threads must we endure before we are able to get a deal done to actually bolster this staff? So many want to hang on to every marginal prospect we have as if they a lock to be the next Archer. Aside from Stro, who has started 20 gms in MLB and is far from proven, there is no prospect/ML we should be afraid to consider moving to make the right deal for a run this year. I don't like how AA has managed Pompey and Boyd this season but that doesn't change the reality that these are very likely marginal assets.
  11. Taking in the Fri, Sat and Sun series against the Angels with my girlfriend. Sitting a few rows back in Jays dugout section. Back to Cal Mon. My 50th Bday trip. Where did the time go?
  12. Norris's BB rate in AAA continues to be a concern.
  13. I sooooo hear you on that. I'm a hopelessly addicted forever loyal Jays fan...but its painful sometimes. I like this team more than in the past few years though. How many more W's at this point would Stro have added? 2?
  14. Should be fun...it will be more than half full of playoff starved Canadians. In Calgary, but haven't made the Seattle trip yet so cant help you. Usually go to TOR but this year went to HOU and going to Anaheim in Aug to watch the Jays.
  15. Ye of little faith. O's lose Cruz and Markakis but gain healthy Weiters and Machado. Jiminez shades of 2013. We are a different team 2015 with Martin and JD though...still need another arm(s) IMO and I worry about our OF depth, or lack thereof.
  16. Kid looks good. Will be fun watching the power develop. Too bad he didn't have his Dad's arm. Vlad's throw is sick
  17. Smoak isn't going to get 3 hits every gm but I think yesterday again showed there is some merit to this Board lighting up complaining about Navarro being handed playing time taking away ABs from others. If he is giving Martin a day off no prob. Other than that and possible PH spots...pass.
  18. Fair. Blows my mind Rays dealt Price sit where they do so far. They are budget constrained but their line up is full of guys who get on base...somehow. The BoSox have dough/assets to address their SP even after big $ for Sandoval and Ramirez. Betts has been a big positive juxtaposed against our experience starting Pompey in CF. Pillar is best utilized as a 4th OF, but we really have nobody to replace him regardless. Who knows what level Saunders plays to coming off the DL. The good news is we have enough O to still be fine with Pillar as long as he continues to play well on D - fWAR 1.7. Hopefully Travis can contribute again.
  19. Not so sure on that. They have some sick pitching and + gloves @3B and 1B (Loney). Kiemaier is off the charts on D. They are struggling now but all the teams have had slumps. Easier to acquire hitting than pitching. Some people may laugh but I actually don't think the BoSox are out of it. Half a season left and they aren't this bad imo.
  20. Perhaps the inferiority complex we have in the AL East this year is underserved? A fair amount of parity in the AL.
  21. Aside from the fact he is expensive and not a great catcher I don't have a huge issue with carrying him as a back up C. His SH offense isn't the worst at that pos and offsets his D somewhat. He has little, if any, trade value so we are kinda stuck with him. It becomes a bigger issue when we give a roster spot to Thole. I just don't think we should be creating playing time for him outside of that role over better options that we have.
  22. Like I said...sometimes they slip by. I meant for all teams. I'm pretty sure the Reds and PITT never saw what Edwin and Jose B could morph into. Jesse Chavez has become a good back end SP etc etc I think its pretty hard to argue with the opinion that the last decade or so the record of players we have assessed, selected and developed that ended up as impact players on our team hasn't been great. Under AA admittedly some that may have were moved as assets.
  23. ...no prob!... we need a WIN!
  24. ok jesus! It may come as a shock to you but I haven't read all your brilliant posts and I didn't know this. I had read an article at the time that made it seem like what I suggested. Thanks.
