  1. Sorry but I don't get this. What posters on the BJMB would accept has no relevance to elite athletic performers/entertainers who excel in a multi billion dollar international business. Every player has the right to seek the maximum payment they can receive in that system. A lot of players get hurt or have their best years before they ever get to their FA year, and miss the opportunity to cash in. Its a business.
  2. Perfect Gibby logic. We want a guy with a 93 wRC+ and the worst pitch selection in our line up starting off the order. It will take the pressure off the big 4 bats who follow him not to have to drive him in. And of course if he does get on, as a semi fast runner it doesn't make sense to run in front of the 4 elite bats that follow him, so we don't have to worry about him getting thrown out.
  3. Fair point. Siddal said that Shapiro told him he thought that Pompey was brought along too fast through the system. Either way I think we will be seeing him again before too long. Even if he has developmental issues he is still probably > than the other options. Still kind of hard to fathom for 20 gms he was starting CF 2015.
  4. Very sorry to hear that. Hope he can beat it into remission. Lost my Dad in 95 and still think about him every day.
  5. Its clearly a service time rationale and its a reasonable defense for the decision. I still don't care for it. Their is a counter argument that giving up a year to Pompey gambling that is in fact ready and is a better shot to add value to the roster in a win year. We will see how it works out.
  6. think I'm in the minority. I am not in favour of this. Dalton as a 4th OF will get a ton of playing time. Our LF and RF' ers have a history of missing time in the OF. Pillar is going to get hurt at some point with his aggressive style likely. Dalton is > Lake, Brown, Italian. + D, + speed, switch hitter. I know he has options and others don't but this is a "win" year and we are going to get more of Dalton that anyone else.
  7. Wouldn't you know it...I slag him and he gets a double.
  8. As desperate as I am for ball this is painful to watch. I see Thole is off to a fast start with the stick at .133. Its only Spring though, and we can't expect this inflated BABIP to be real throughout the season.
  9. I think we have to try Floyd as 5th given his contract. Lets see if he is healthy again. We know what we already have pretty much with Chavez and Sanchez (despite hundreds of pages of debate on here). Not sure on sending Sanchez to AAA though. In a "win" year I'd hate to lose that arm in the pen against RHP middle innings although Storen gives us more flexibility.
  10. And Harold Reynolds...and Gibby.
  11. Fair point on the OF value but if your hypotheses is correct how much premium do you put on a declining OF? I looked at the D numbers and his shoulder hurt him last year. I'm no expert but my eyes tell me he is declining. He was at times pretty brutal. Of course, all this is conjecture anyway, because we really don't know what Edwin would take, and what the delta with Jose might be. In terms of who is a bigger risk I tend to go with Jose due to age (which is going to affect his OF play eventually)
  12. So...its a hunch? I stand by my view that there isn't a solid basis for your expectation. Could it happen? Sure. But you can say that about so many things in ball. The probability that Edwin will remain an elite bat > than Jose (age) and when signing contracts with dollars that big, its a huge part of mgm risk assessment .
  13. yes. Before 2015 Jose missed a large part of 2 seasons and last year the shoulder. There has been some detailed analysis on fangraphs on Bautista and Pujols (as well as all aging sluggers back the last 4 decades). They all point to the same probability, and that is that Edwins age gives him a better chance to be an elite bat longer than Jose.
  14. That would be great. It's great that we are arguing about a bunch of decent options rather than talking about how many games Redmond will have to start or whether Francis will be our mid innings LHP.
  15. I don't see the basis for this.
  16. Agreed. Feels quite different than going into 2015. Feels like a lot of quality arms. Not elite (sans Cecil the way he pitched 2nd half) but pretty solid partnered with this offense. Rotation feels the same. Floyd is my dark horse 5th SP. Shapiro interview yesterday on Sanchez was telling. Loved it. "You can't just have a power arm at this level".
  17. Thanks. I realize. First time Id seen him this spring is what I meant. I was at that game in TOR when he tore it. Bad turn for us.
  18. Seem to remember there was talk last season that catching the knuckler for Martin wore him down too much and took a lot out of him. I don't how credible it was.
  19. lol. I know its ST and I don't want to get too excited, but the missed bats, s***** swings and ground balls today were the best part of the day to watch. That and seeing Cecil back on the bump for the first time since his calf tear tinkering with his hook.
  20. Ben N-S just posted an article on Sportsnet about Devon Travis and apparently his recovery is going well. His quotes sound like Stro last year very eager to get back. Closer to resuming baseball activities.
  21. Ew. After that I'll never be able to look at L54's avatar quite the same way again.
  22. Quick poll: if offered a chance to go to dinner with Barker and Wilner would you go or not? I wouldn't. I just couldn't.
  23. I get it. I'm watching too out of interest, and I'd rather see them do well than suck. But it's best not to get high or low on anyone from this stuff. Smart mgm is looking for subtle things in the players and execution. Not the actual results at this point. Ex. Saunders movement in OF...the quickness of his bat, the sprinkler head he might step on this season.
  24. Don't worry bro. Cecil didn't even pitch in ST last year and remember how he threw 2nd half. Spring training is just that. He could be working on a weak pitch for him. You never know.
  25. I get the sense they will give Saunders the shot while Dalton keeps warm in Buff. When Saunders get injured he will come up. Zeke is a pretty much useless option on O and D. Cheap replacement level filler I guess to fill a temporary gap.
