some media in Toronto suggest you can't make late inning defensive substitution for Reyes because he's a superstar. Defensively, he has made late inning errors that have led to two losses. Is Reyes still thought of as a superstar? His flat footed fielding style is awkward and his range is severely limited because of it. Why not sub the guy out for one of the top DSR IF in the league in Ryan Goins....

Hmm, good question. He's not a good defensive shortstop, especially as he's aged. Do the Jays know that? They probably do. So that suggests that either John Gibbons doesn't think it's worth it or that he's worried about Reyes' ego. I don't have the answer, but you shouldn't let "superstar" status get in the way of a sound baseball decision. (And, no, Reyes is no longer thought of as a superstar outside of his own home.)
