and being sent to AAA or AA should not be viewed as a total failure
it is a step on the career path that many good/great SP have taken before. In the long run he may turn out to be a power arm at the back end of the bullpen. we have Norris, Stroman and Hoffman in the mix for 2016 so having Sanchez in the pen may be a good thing. Castro, Osuna right now are bullpen arms - but Osuna seems to have the command/stuff that he could be a SP long term
I am merely pointing out to everyone that often there is a "fetish" by many on this board for the next great prospect. But when that prospect struggles when first exposed to MLB that kid is lost, never to improve or adjust. I am sure you are familiar with all the Sanchez threads on this board. He has two above average MLB quality pitches. He is 22 years old. he struggles with command/control. he may improve, he may not - but he has a greater chance of that compared to the chance Dawson can develop MLB quality stuff from where he sits at 21 years old..
but people on this board like to forget about all the tough times that prospects will face when they come up against MLB quality competition. Saying Boyd has #3 upside is ridiculous. A stud like Hoffman with 97+mph fastball and above average curve is only projected (by most) to be a future 2.
i notice a trend here. overestimate a prospect's talent level then when they get to MLB and don't meet those unreasonable expectations s*** all over them and say they are a failure
i'm just saying to watch out for the hype on any fringe prospect due to minor league performance. He wasn't included in any top 100 prospect lists, he barely made the Jays top 20.
if jays are lucky he could turn out to be a fifth starter or another BP arm
