I've read through this thread, and I still can't find one person who claimed to have seen Gomes' "breakout" or saw last season's performance coming.
However, fans have every right to pick apart this trade. It's not up to the fans to come up with scouting reports on every player and then to analyze the trade for the organization. That's on the org.
But fans have the right to look back on a trade and decide whether it was a good trade for the org when all things are considered.
It's the FO that is leading this team through drafts, signings, extensions and trades. And fans can create opinions whether or not this FO is leading this team in the right direction.
And looking back, trading TDA+ and letting JPA assume the catcher's role only to rightfully release him, while Gomes' "breakout" occuring... it doesn't look like the Jays made the right move at all when it comes to the catcher position.
And having this gaping hole at catcher during our "window of contention" while letting go a player that could have really helped us, does look pretty f***ing awful for the Jays' FO.
The pressure is on.
