  1. Looks like you're 50% right. Based on the comments in this article, it sounds like Bichette was involved in his decision and Manoah has no f***ing idea what's going on and it's the agent's play on his side. https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/bo-bichette-on-blue-jays-pre-arbitration-system-i-disagree-with-the-formula/
  2. He won't be for long now that he's on my elusive Mount Rushmore.
  3. Good posts, you guys won me over. Buying my grandma a Tapia jersey as we speak.
  4. Oh god, I've been wondering for the last hour why I hated Grichuk so much last year and why I complained about him to my dad every time he came up to bat. It was the double plays. I forgot about the double plays.
  5. Mike Wilner, Barry Davis, Gregg Zaun, Sid Seixeiro
  6. Steve Simmons, Andrew Stoeten, Rosie DiManno, Damien Cox
  7. It's pretty much entirely baserunning. Tapia has a +6.9 BsR over that time while Grichuk is -4.8. They're pretty much a wash defensively and Grichuk is far better offensively. If we could trust Montoyo to use Tapia strategically from a baserunning standpoint, I would classify this trade as a straight win even without taking the saved salary into account. But we all know Montoyo is going to give Tapia way too many plate appearances and way too many high leverage pinch hit opportunities. I was nervous about Montoyo having Greg Bird as an option going into the season because it was giving me Joe Panik PTSD but I'd 1000% take Bird over Tapia.
  8. I'm very glad they got out of the Grichuk deal. That being said, there's a lot of celebrating going on in this thread but Tapia is garbage and, unless there's another move coming, he is absolutely going to get more playing time than anyone on here wants. Tapia being a lefty is the worst thing for this team because it means Montoyo is going to find his career 80 wRC+ split a spot in the lineup every single time the Jays are facing a righty. Which is going to be brutal and have people here raging harder than they did over Joe Panik. People will be begging to have Grichuk back in the lineup a month into the season. Really hope they have another move lined up.
  9. In a vacuum, this trade undoubtedly makes the Jays worse in 2022. However, no matter what the salary difference is this season, unless they're sending money to cover both of Grichuk's remaining years, getting his 10M off the books for 2023 is huge. Can non-tender Tapia's bum ass next season.
  10. Well, s***. I just put this together and before I could upload it, Grichuk got traded, lmao. I'll edit once we know more about salaries, etc.
  11. Yessssss, got rid of Grichuk.
  12. So a rare small bit of negative news from this offseason, the Jays reached agreements with 16 of their 18 league min guys on the 40-man roster. The two guys they didn't were Bichette and Manoah, who deliberately took pay cuts to indicate that they weren't happy with the team's offers. https://www.sportsnet.ca/article/contracts-renewed-for-bichette-manoah-after-failing-to-reach-agreement-with-blue-jays/ Probably not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things but also not exactly ideal. Don't think it would have killed the team to offer Manoah something like 750K and Bo something like 800K.
  13. Jose Ramirez, Frankie Montas, Michael Conforto, Connor McDavid
  14. I'm taking Gausman, Chapman and Kikuchi (even though I don't like Kikuchi) because I'm a homer. I was also among the few fans that really didn't care about losing Semien, Ray and Matz. I thought a scenario in which the Jays brought all three of those guys back was the most boring potential outcome of this off-season so I'm pretty glad it didn't happen. I also don't subscribe to the idea that the Jays are just running it back with an even or worse roster to what they had last year. Bichette and Gurriel both looked much better defensively by the end of the season, Chapman will have a massive impact with the glove, the rotation is much stronger to start the season, there's a potential to have Pearson and Merryweather as healthy pen arms, Springer will hopefully be more healthy, they'll have full seasons of Manoah Cimber and Richards, Moreno will likely be up at some point, Biggio and Jansen both had health-related struggles and began bouncing back in the second half last year and, hopefully, Montoyo will be less of a f***ing troglodyte after getting another year of experience. There are obviously a lot of variables that can hurt the team but there are just as many things that can go right and improve the team.
  15. Updated Payroll Table: As you all know from last night, arbitration salaries are all locked up now. The Jays are spending about $174M on payroll for this upcoming season with signing bonuses counted in. Player benefits and salaries for 40-man rostered minor leaguers can get the spending up to an estimated $192M. In terms of the CBT, the Jays are projected to have a $185M cap hit, with $45M in space before the first threshold. As far as the roster goes, I would be surprised if Thornton actually makes it, just included him since he was an arb case. However, Borucki is looking like he has a solid chance for a spot since he's getting very paid little, has no options left and apparently looks really good so far. Atkins also said today that he might be more inclined to carry three catchers with the 28-man rosters in April, so unless a deal is struck, expect all of Kirk, Jansen and McGuire to make it. I'm guessing the Opening Day squad looks very close to what I have above, perhaps with Bird and Merryweather in place of Lopez and Thornton.
  16. Jays came to terms with everyone.
  17. Vladdy wasn't good in his first year and he's also a Super Two. Makes a big difference.
  18. I got half of what I asked for I guess, haha. MLBTR did good work on this estimate.
  19. Yup, excited for all the numbers to come in. Hopefully they settle with the remaining guys so we know exactly how much they're earning and we don't have to worry about arb hearings in-season. On the main roster, only Mayza, Cimber, Jansen and Vladdy are left for arb cases. I've had a small hunch all day that we might hear of a Vladdy extension today but who knows where they're at on that. Either way, I hope they get him locked in on a number.
  20. I wish every Jays player had the same agent Berrios has. Could lock up the entire roster on a 200M payroll, lol.
  21. Basically just buying out his two arb years so they can avoid that process. He had a 9.5M arb projection for this year so this is them paying him more than he likely would have gotten in these two years. Hopefully that helps their case for a longer extension down the road.
